Det första uppdraget : om studenten som företagare

This is a 20 points graduation thesis, performed at the Department of Urban and Rural Development at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala. The main aim of this thesis is to examine what it is like to combine studying with working and starting your own company. Furthermore, I want to be able to convey this knowledge to others. An important part of being a landscape architect is informing people, and making rather abstract issues tangible. The word 'entrepreneur' is originally French. Today, we think of entrepreneurs, or contractors, as energetic people, who dare to try new ideas. There are many reasons why people start their own company, but the most common ones are the wish to fulfil oneself and to be able to plan one's own time.

Cykelgarage : en litteraturstudie om cykelgarage och dess samhällsnytta

När samhället tvingas att anpassa sig efter klimatförändringar och sinande oljeresurser uppkommer nya problem att handskas med för stadsplanerare. Cykelgarage, som är ett relativt nytt fenomen i Sverige, kan skapa bättre förutsättningar och erbjuda service för cyklister som parkerar vid stationer och resecentrum. De kan bidra till att få fler att cykla och att åka kollektivtrafik. I en framtid som ställer högre krav på en hållbar infrastruktur behöver vi satsa mer på kollektivtrafik och cyklism. Vi pratar om förtätning av våra städer och ser den positiva verkan det ger men det ställer samtidigt högre krav på stadsplaneringen.

Är den hållbara staden möjlig utan en levande landsbygd? : en studie av den miljömässiga hållbarheten i Det flerkärniga Skåne

Stora delar av världen genomgår idag en omfattande urbanisering, där allt fler flyttar från land till stad. Samtidigt ges diskussionen om hållbar utveckling mer och mer relevans och utrymme. Som en följd av rådande urbaniseringstrender tycks resonemang kring miljömässig hållbar utveckling ofta beröra hur de urbana strukturerna ska kunna komma att möta framtidens klimatutmaningar, snarare än att alternativa strukturer lyfts fram som möjliga, mer miljövänliga, alternativ. Denna uppsats syftar till att ge en djupare förståelse för vilken betydelse relationen mellan stad och landsbygd har för en miljömässigt hållbar utveckling. Uppsatsen tar sin utgångspunkt i en beskrivning av och diskussion kring miljömässig hållbarhet (och icke-hållbarhet) i staden respektive på landsbygden. Denna beskrivning och diskussion ligger sedan till grund för en analys av huruvida Region Skåne förhåller sig till de miljömässiga fördelar en stärkt relation mellan stad och landsbygd innebär.

Energiaspekter på gestaltning : fallstudie Energihuset i Uppsala

This thesis has been carried out at the Department of Urban and Rural Development at SLU Ultuna during the spring semester 2009. The topic of the paper is how energy consumption can be influenced through design and if the conditions for good design decreases when solutions based on energy efficiency are used. The report is divided into one literature study and one part where energy efficient solutions are used in a design. The thesis work has its origin in a project called "Energihus i Uppsala." The planned building will be a center for energy research in Uppsala. The project aims to demonstrate to the public what is currently happening in research related to energy.

Stölder och förebyggande åtgärder : en studie hos Holmen skogs entreprenörer och egna maskinlag

This master thesis was performed as a mission from Holmen Skog with the purpose to investigate to which extent their own machine teams and engaged contractors were exposed to theft and vandalism, and most common preventive measures used. With the help of collected data the study should lead to proposals of preventive measures that can help the machine teams in their struggle to minimise theft and vandalism. Theft and vandalism are a big problem for Swedish forest contractors. In a scarce economic situation thefts and vandalism rapidly decrease the profit for the contractors. However, the last years have resulted in a positive awareness of thefts, and more and better preventive measures have been developed. With the initiative of this master thesis, Holmen Skog show that they are aware of the situation and that they wish to take control of the problem. A total amount of 108 questionnaires was sent out to Holmen?s own machine teams and engaged contractors.

När cykelstigen kom till byn : en fallstudie i Arvidsjaurs kommun

Den omfattande exploateringen av Sveriges skogar under 1800-talets andra hälft ledde till en motreaktion där tankar om uthålligt skogsbruk etablerades i början på 1900-talet. Detta fick till följd att efterfrågan på arbetskraft ökade i de norrländska skogsbygderna. Framkomligheten var inte bara ett problem för skogsbruket, även befolkningen i Norrlands inland var i stort behov av utfartsvägar som komplement till kommunikationen längs älvarna. En åtgärd som vid tiden föreslogs för att komma till rätta med den svåra framkomligheten i det norrländska skogslandskapet var byggnation av en enkel typ av vägar. Cykelstigarna var, som namnet antyder, tänkta för persontrafik i första hand med cykel och motorcykel.

Etableringskriterier : för lagerhållande verksamhet

The purpose of this thesis is to identify the most important establishment criteria for companies whointend to do a new establishment. There are differences between regions regarding attraction on startup.Some regions have few new businesses while others continuously expanded its activities in variousfields. The biggest focus on the thesis is the Gävle- Borlänge region where MellansvenskaHandelskammaren is active.Mellansvenska Handelskammaren saw a need for the assignment after the magazine ?IntelligentLogistik? ranked the Gävle region at 15:th place and Falun/Borlänge at 20:th place in the list over thetop 25 best logistics locations in Sweden. This made them wonder what could be made to develop intoa better area with more amenities and a better place in the ranking of the magazine.

5 minuter till Luleå : en visuell studie av en stadsinfart

SUMMARYThe demands on the public environment are big and in particular on the environment of communication which we spend a lot of time in on our way to work, school etc. The city-approach is a road section that leads from the periphery of the city to the centre of the city, often through boring and meaningless industrial areas that displays the back side of the city to the voyager on the city-approach. The intentions of this thesis in landscape architecture has been to study one of the two city-approaches to the city of Luleå, the close surroundings and contextual position in the city and not at least give suggestions of ways how the city-approach can be changed, clarified and improved. The study of the city-approach has been made by studying literature that concern city-approaches and the architecture of roads in general. Studies of different analysis methods has been made to find appropriate approaches to work with the specific study of the city-approach to Luleå.

Cooking banana farming system in rural Uganda : a comparison between agroforestry systems and non agroforestry systems

The demand for food, feed, fibre and fuel has increased in Uganda over the past 50 years due to population growth. Recurring extreme climate events such as drought and flooding, in combination with large-scale land degradation, have led to declining crop yields. Lack of equipment, money and socio-economic issues has contributed to low yields. However, the soils in Uganda have the potential to produce much higher yields than they do today. This study, which was carried out in April-June 2013 in Kkingo District, south-east Uganda, examined the effects of agroforestry on yield of cooking bananas in small-holder farming systems. Six farms practising agroforestry and six farms with no agroforestry, which were chosen in cooperation with the NGO Vi Agroforestry, were compared.

Studie av trafikmiljön längs cykelstråk: konstruktion av
instrumenterad cykel och programvara

Den här rapporten beskriver hur man med hjälp av olika tekniska hjälpmedel monterade på en cykel kan mäta och senare analysera olika trafiksituationer. Syftet har varit att försöka få klarhet i hur en instrumenterad cykel fungerar, vilken utrustning som behövs, hur den ska användas och vilket resultat man kan förvänta sig att få ut från mätningar med en sådan cykel. Tanken är att cykeln ska kunna användas både för att studera cykelvägarnas fysiska utformning och trafikanters beteende varför den utrustas med två stycken videokameror, en riktad framåt med syfte att filma det som cyklisten ser och en riktad bakåt med uppgift att filma de trafikanter som rör sig bakom cyklisten. För att lagra information om cykelns position och hastighet tillsammans med uppgifter om exakt när man befann sig på den platsen användes en GPS-mottagare framtagen för färdloggning, Exylog. För att enkelt kunna tolka insamlade data från GPS och videokameror behöver dessa sammanställas och redovisas på ett enkelt och tydligt sätt.

Körskador i gallring : en studie av 21 drabbade objekt i södra Sverige

To guarantee the customers a job satisfactory executed Sydved has been certified by the ISO 14001 standard. One part of the certification is the standards of soil damages. The soil damages were over represented during 1999 and 2000. It was therefore a need to study the problem in order to see what could be done to reduces these damages. A filed study was carried out on 21 subjectively selected stands from the following five districts: Vänersborg, Falköping, Borås, Jönköping and Åseda. As the study is a descriptive study of the soil damages, their character and extension, only stands were tracks were reported were considered.

En jämförelse mellan TLS och UAV-fotogrammetri : Inmätning av hårdgjorda ytor

At present day there are several different methods for measuring of paved surfaces.The most common methods today are measuring with a total station, the GlobalNavigation Satellite System (GNSS) and terrestrial laser scanning (TLS). Recently thedevelopment of unmanned aerial vehicles, known as drones, has increasedexponentially and today there are several ways of using drones for measuring surfacesby photographing and laser scanning.This thesis contains a comparison between the methods terrestrial laser scanning(TLS), and unmanned aerial vehicle photogrammetry (UAV). The measurements havebeen applied on two different test surfaces, one of asphalt and one of gravel. Thepurpose of the comparison is to investigate whether the airborne photogrammetry isequivalent accurate in its height levels as the terrestrial laser scanning. For thecomparison to be more extensive, these two methods have not only been comparedin precision but also in the areas of ease of use and economy.The precision was analyzed by comparing the height levels in randomly placed controlpoints on the test surfaces.

Kampen om tidningssidorna: landsort vs. storstad : En kvantitativ innehållsanalys av landsorts- och storstadsnyheter i två rikstäckande tidningar

The purpose of this essay is to examine and compare the news covering of Swedens three biggest cities (the metropolitan areas) and their surrounding areas with the covering of the rest of the country (the provincial areas) in two daily national newspapers, Aftonbladet and Dagens Nyheter. The aim has been to answer the following questions:- What amount of the news coverage in Aftonbladet and Dagens Nyheter concern the metropolitan areas compared to the provincial areas, and how do these two newspapers differ in the news covering of these areas?- Is there a difference in the news articles size and content, depending on weather they concern the metropolitan or the provincial areas?- How has the balance between news concerning metropolitan and provincial areas changed over the recent 20 years?The theories used in this study are News values, the media commercialization and Popular Journalism, and The Agenda Setting Theory. The method that has been used is a Quantitative Content Analysis.Despite the essays hypothesis, that the news coverage in the two newspapers would be dominated by material from the metropolitan areas, the result showed that a majority of the examined articles concern the provincial areas. It also showed that Aftonbladet has a bigger percentage of provincial news than Dagens Nyheter.

Driftkostnadsanalys i väginvesteringsprojekt

During its lifetime, a road goes through a number of different stages; pre-study,inquiry of the road, work plan, documenting stage, building stage and operatingstage. The operating stage is the one that takes the longest time and costs themost. Those have a tendency of becoming unnecessarily high because the projectengineers don?t always take the management and maintenance prerequisites intoconditions.To decrease the management and maintenance costs, the Swedish RoadAdministration SouthEast has been in need of a work procedure that makes theroaddesign engineers take the management and maintenance of the road intoconsideration. This shall be achieved by a checklist where the most commondesigns that lead to increased management- and maintenance costs are compiledand listed.Through interviews with project leaders in management, the most commonproblems have been identified, analyzed and summarized under the headlineswinter-road, vegetation, road equipment and road designs.To elucidate the problem from several points of view, interviews wereimplemented with project leaders in investment and roaddesign engineers.

Konceptuell design och utveckling av hybridfordon

This report covers the conceptual design of a new one person hybrid vehicle that is to be fast and convenient to drive on the roads. The vehicle is most of all supposed to be used as a commute vehicle but can also be used at other occasions as well.During the work with this project the group has focused on three larger areas, the outer design (body), wheel chassis and an ergonomically designed interior. The group was not able to just create these parts in 3D to get a trustworthy vehicle, hence number of other components and details were also created to get a better entirety.The outer design starts with idea generation and sketches and ends with a 3D model which is rendered to show how the final product is going to look. The design of the body has been going on during the entire work process due to new ideas and improvements that seemed interesting and had to be changed.The wheel chassis also started with idea generation, research and sketches. It ended up with a simulated 3D model which later on was mounted on the vehicle body to show how the vehicle is going to perform during usage.
