The foundation for this thesis lies in whether or not, and how, the body representation in printed commercials, specific products directed to the body (shampoo, body lotion etc.), has changed during the last fifty years. Four years have been chosen because of the changes in society that we believe might have had an impact. The commercials that have been picked out are the ones that best represent the general view of the body. We have found that the changes when it comes to body presentation has followed the social development to a certain degree, but it is difficult to say how much the society has had an affect on the body ideal in advertising. Representations of the male body is something that has escalated since the early 70?s, fifteen years earlier few commercials was made with male models, and the few there were, never showed more than the face.

"Man vill ju se bra ut" : En kvalitativ studie om ungdomars syn på sociala medier

This thesis examines young people's thoughts about their presence on social media. With asocial constructive approach the study focused on how young people think and act on socialmedia in relation to constructions of gender and normality. The analysis is based on fourgroup interviews with 13-year old boys and girls. The theoretical approach is based partly onsocial constructionism where discourses and ideas of normality are identified and analyzed.Erving Goffman's theory of social interaction was central to illustrate how young peoplepresents themselves based on the prevailing discourses. It is clear that they adjust theirrepresentations of themselves depending on the context.

Unga kvinnors kroppsbild: En kvalitativ studie

Syftet med studien var att beskriva vad unga kvinnor avser med begreppet kroppsbild, hur den egna bilden av kroppen upplevs och hur denna kroppsbild skapats. I denna studie intervjuades tjugo personer och designen var en multipel fallstudie. Informanterna menade att kroppsbild betyder ?en bild av kroppen? och många relaterade till sin egen kropp när de skulle beskriva begreppet. Fyra informanter menade att ansikte/huvud inte ingick i begreppet kroppsbild.


Undervisning i media : med fokus på elever med läs- och skrivsvårigheter

This paper is based on observations made in the classroom, interviews and studies ofliterature.The observations that I made during my practical training period made me believethat pupils with writing and reading problems succeeded more often with the methodsof teaching used in media education than with more traditional teaching methods.Through this study I hope to specify and define the factors that were the reasons for this. In doing so I wanted to show that you could adapt the teaching methods to reach more pupils with different kinds of learning styles.I have come to the conclusion that the following factors made the pupils with writing and reading problems succeed more often in subjects related to media education:Variety, time spent, the pupils? interests and the equipment used..

Om politiken och publiken : en diskursteoretisk analys av politiken som reglerar inehållet i public service

The aim with this study is to identify and discuss discourses in public service policy documents to clarify that public service policy is political and not self-evident. The study's theoretical as well as methodological starting point is the discourse theory of Laclau and Mouffe, which ontological position is that all meaning is constructed by discourses. In the studied material, two discourses have been identified in policy concerning the content in public service media. The responsibility-discourse construct meanings of what content the policy wants to see in public service media and in the quality-discourse meanings of how the content should be is constructed. Public service policy is consistent over the period that has been studied and the study shows that there is consensus in the parliament about the regulation of the content in public service media.

Den duktiga flickan och superhjälten : En diskursanalys av svenska tidningars konstruktion av kvinnlig och manlig stress

Studien syftar till att undersöka hur stress konstrueras i svenska tidningar samt vilka skillnader och likheter som finns i konstruktionen av mäns och kvinnors stress. Den teoretiska utgångspunkten är Berger och Luckmanns socialkonstruktionism som innebär att allt är socialt konstruerat. Faircloughs kritiska diskursanalys har också legat till grund för studiens teoretiska och metodologiska ramverk. För att besvara studiens syfte har Faircloughs tredimensionella modell använts för att analysera artiklar från Sveriges fyra största tidningar. Artiklarna som analyserades handlade om mäns och kvinnors stress.

En kvalitativ innehållsanalys om hur informationen ser ut i olika svenska medier angående tjejers och kvinnors knäproblem

Aftonbladet Kvinna 1992-2001 : En undersökning av Aftonbladets kvinnosatsning ur ett genusteoretiskt perspektiv

Uppsatsen undersöker Aftonbladet Kvinna 1992-2001, en satsning grundad i den goda ambitionen att skapa en arena för kvinnor och kvinnofrågor. Syftet är att titta på dess utveckling över tid med tyngdpunkt på huruvida framställningen av särskilt kvinnor, men även män, utmanar eller reproducerar könsstereotypa mönster. Studien utgår från ett teoretiskt ramverk bestående av genusteori, gestaltningsteori samt tidigare forskning kring kön och media. För att undersöka Aftonbladet Kvinnas tidsmässiga utveckling tillämpades kvantitativ innehållsanalys på totalt 398 stycken analysenheter hämtade från fyra olika tidsperioder: 1992/1993, 1996, 1999/2000 och 2000/2001. Därefter genomfördes en kvalitativ text- och bildanalys av sju artiklar för att på en djupare nivå kunna analysera innehållet.

The purpose of this essay has been to study if all the districts in the city of Malmoe get to be seen in the city?s biggest newspaper, Sydsvenskan. Is the reporting proportional? What images is the newspaper offering the citizens? Do they match the reality? Or are some parts of Malmoe in the dark, in a media shadow?Research done in the past has shown that Stockholm in many ways is in a media shadow. The same pattern was shown in Gothenburg.

Namnpublicering i samband med brott

Frågan om namnpublicering i media i samband med brott är alltid lika aktuell. Det finns tunga argument både för och emot publicering. Dessa är ofta beroende av sammanhanget och det enskilda fallet. I de allra flesta fall är det allmänintresset som avgör om det anses motiverat med en namnpublicering. Syftet med denna undersökning är att genom en enkätundersökning studera vad allmänheten anser om namnpublicering i samband med brott.

This paper is based on a quantitative survey. The study aims to answer the questionwhich media young people rather use to take part of the news. The results showthat young people today in Kalmar preferably and often read newspapers on theInternet and mobile phone.The questions asked was about which media they usually use, the level ofconfidence they had in various media, how interest was in different newscategories, willingness to pay for online news and background issues relatedsubjects. The survey was aimed at high school students in Kalmar and weredistributed and collected on-site at the schools. What was remarkable among theresponses was that young people largely had access to a morning newspaper athome and said that they would consider subscribing to one in the future.

Sportfans, sociala medier & UFC : En studie om sociala mediers inverkan på fandom

We aim to develop knowledge of how new technology, in this case social media, can contribute to how sports fans interact with their idols. Therefore our framing of a question is to present how fans experience their contact with mixed martial arts (MMA) & ultimate fighting championship (UFC) through social media platforms. To specify our study, we also have a supplement question with in which way sports fans uses social media.We have chosen to conduct a qualitative study consisting of interviews and data observations of websites, related to the organization UFC, to approach our main question. We have interviewed nine randomly selected people with one common interest - MMA/UFC. With an implant of theories, consisting of social media, fandom and lurking, on the result of the interview and website data, we try to come closer to a conclusion for our intention with this thesis.Our conclusion is that the interviewed fans express that through the usage of social media, they feel like they have come closer to UFC.

Revolutionen är en man : Genus, nationalitet och nyhetsvärdering i de svenska mediernas rapportering om den arabiska våren

In this study we examine four Swedish newspapers? visual coverage of the Tunisian and Egyptian uprisings in 2010 and 2011 ? commonly known as the ?Arab Spring Revolution?, the ?Jasmine revolution? and in Sweden also the ?Women?s revolution? ? focusing on three main perspectives: news values and framing, postcolonialism, and gender.By means of a comprehensive content analysis and an in-depth semiotic analysis, the purpose of this study is to investigate how Swedish written media frames the revolution and its initiators and partakers through news photographs, headlines, lead paragraphs and photograph bylines, and to determine whether or not it reproduces earlier trends of media coverage and framing of non-Westerners and non-Western societies.The purpose of the extensive content analysis is to attain data for empirical research of the visual portrayal of the uprisings? first twelve weeks in Sweden?s four largest newspapers Dagens Nyheter, Svenska Dagbladet, Aftonbladet and Expressen. The analysis reveals that episodic framing is regularly used in all four newspapers, and that media demonizes Tunisians and Egyptians by constructing them as a brutal, uncivilized and threatening group which almost exclusively consists of men, and whose members are neither quoted nor named. It also shows that women are symbolically annihilated by media and that the very few women who do occur are gender stereotyped in accordance with established media conventions and postcolonial tradition, with the interesting exception of women being quoted to a larger extent than men. The analysis furthermore confirms the low occurrence of female journalists in Swedish foreign reporting, as well as demonstrates that the gender of the journalists does not influence what types of stories are written or how they are framed.The variable frequencies obtained from the content analysis provide indicators which are subsequently explored in the semiotic analysis of four news photographs.
