The thesis of this essay is how literary texts are selected in the teaching of Swedish in upper secondary school, and how teachers reflect upon gender in these selections. To answer the thesis question three methods have been used. Firstly interviews were held with five teachers of Swedish, which have been the primary source for the essay. In addition to the interviews, I have examined two literary anthologies used as teaching aid in the teaching of Swedish and lastly I analyzed the literature and authors that the teachers explicitly express that they use in their tutoring. The secondary sources of this thesis contain research on selections of fictional texts, literary canon and students? re-production of gender.

No one believes in Åkesson - a comparative study on the evening press and the publicservice reporting on the Swedish Democrats before the 2014 election.The purpose of this essay was to study how Aftonbladet and Ekot reports about the SwedishDemocrats before the election 2014, as well as comparing the two medias and reasoningabout their agendas towards the party. The tabloid, Aftonbladet, is one of the biggestnewspapers in Sweden, which depends on counter sales and commercials. Ekot, which is apart of public service, is state-funded and regulated by certain guidelines. Using aquantitative method we studied 80 articles, and through a qualitative method, six of thearticles were analyzed to reach a deeper understanding. The similarity between the Russian and the Indian, in a Cold War context, may be ambiguous considering the ethnic-social variables and the period in time from where the Indians relate. However, by analyzing these, as well as other, characters in the exhibition of movies, we could learn something about the ideology of the time from which the movies derive.This study examines ideology and movies in the Cold War era and concludes that the Indian, for example, may be representing the values of the common public enemy, originating from the Cold War ideology. The movies examined, regardless of influence of distinct Cold War themes or lack of such themes, carry attributes that give evidence of typical Cold War ideology. The fear of communism and common enemies connected to a Cold War context, the thought of America as the land of the free ? with the horizon in the ending of the movies as metaphoric to freedom ? and the moral rhetoric that connects to the American thought of a duty as a global savior, are all signs of the Cold War ideology.Even though the messages are somewhat clearer and more distinct in the movies with Cold War motifs, the fact that ideology is projected through other movies as well should be considered essential for the continuing study of movies as cultural artefacts..

Denna uppsats syftar till att, ur ett lärandeperspektiv, analysera NPM-litteraturens syn på lärande och organisation. Uppsatsen är en kvalitativ litteraturstudie som ställer lärandeperspektivet i relation till NPM-diskursen. Vi kom fram till att NPM-litteraturens centrala områden, i termer av decentralisering och mål- och resultatstyrning, innehåller goda förutsättningar för lärande. Dessa förutsättningar framställs implicit och behandlas inte uttryckligen. Komplexiteten i NPM-reformerna har inneburit svårigheter att implementera de nya idéerna i organisationerna.

This essay tries to explain how Swedish donor organisations are working with democracy in foreign aid. Three case studies of Sida, LO-TCO Biståndsnämnd and Rädda Barnen aims to give an overview of Swedish donor organisations, their work with democracy aid, evaluation and the problems with foreign aid. With Carothers theory of democracy aiding I analyse the success of Swedish democracy promotion, how civil society contributes to democratizaion and how democracy is measured.I find that Swedish democracy aid overall is successful due to a wider perspective of the term democracy. When democracy involves human rights it gives the donor a possibility to work with democracy promotion in a more extensive area and especially in the civil society. The essay stresses the importance of being subjective when evaluating and that one have to focus on the definition of democracy in each specific case.

AbstractIn this theory-testing case study I will analyze and discuss the Gulf War which took place in the Middle East in 1990-1991 and has become an important topic for discussion among IR scholars in the post-Cold War era. The events that led up to the Gulf War, as well as the war itself, will be analyzed from two different perspectives; Realism and Liberalism. Within these differing theoretical frameworks I have chosen to use elements from, on the one hand, Classical and Structural Realism, and on the other hand, Idealism and Liberal Institutionalism. Focusing on these specific schools of thought I aim to derive essential, ?key?, concepts that will then be tested against empirical fact.The overall purpose of this study is to try to logically explain, through detailed analysis, the actions of the actors involved in the Gulf War and, in addition, why this war ever occurred.

The aim of this study is to investigate the discourses of widening recruitment to higher education in some political documents from the 21st century. The scientific method applied is critical discourse analysis as developed by Norman Fairclough. This implies the analyses of the actual texts, the social practice as well as the discursive practice, i.e. the conditions under which the texts are produced, distributed and consumed.The major results include four discourses: a post-modern discourse, a neoliberal economic discourse, a political discourse of multi-culturalism and a modern discourse with its roots in the 20th century?s discussions about social imbalance in recruitment to higher education.

This essay shows how the concept of virtue can deepen our understanding considering processes of empowerment. A virtue is understood as a trait of character, manifested in habitual action, that it is good for person a to have. Virtues are interpreted as socially constructed. Empowerment is presented as a process toward self-confidence and self-determination where recourses and freedom propels the development toward power for the individual, the household and the community. Why does the concept of virtue deepen our understanding? It is argued that our theoretical perceptive of empowerment needs to better encompass values, norms and practise.

Under 1990-talet förändrades villkoren för de ideella organisationerna i Sverige. De tidigare generella bidragen ersattes med resultatinriktade bidrag och kontrakt, så kallat entreprenörskap. Den nya bidragspolitiken har medfört stora förändringar för de ideella organisationerna eftersom kommunen som ledande aktör har fått ett allt större inflytande på deras verksamheter. Vi har genom samtalsintervjuer med två ideella organisationer på entreprenad och en ansvarig kommuntjänsteman undersökt den förändrade relationen mellan kommunen och organisationerna. I vår analys har vi även använt oss av de kontrakt som reglerar samarbetet i den offentliga upphandlingen.

I denna studie undersöker vi hur två utrikespolitiska aktörer, USA och EU, i tre empiriska fall tolkat element ur folkrätten. Vi låter två diskurser som bottnar i FN-stadgans rättighet till självförsvar samt en nyare norm som berör statens ansvar att skydda sina medborgare belysa hur aktörerna förhållit sig till folkrätten.Genom en kvalitativ textanalys av aktörernas folkrättsliga beteende i dessa fall visar vi att båda aktörerna söker att förankra sitt utrikespolitiska agerande i folkrättsliga termer. Vidare visar vi att folkrätten är ett tänjbart begrepp för aktörerna, framför allt för USA.Med hjälp av en teori om att det internationella systemet i första hand är strukturerat av folkrätt förklarar vi det båda aktörerna säger folkrättsligt, medan det de faktiskt gör måste förklaras med hjälp av andra teorier inom internationell politik..

Kvalité i äldrevården är något det bland politiker talas väldigt mycket om, men som det ur ett vetenskapligt perspektiv relativt sett inte har skrivits mycket om. Sätten att organisera sin äldrevård runt om i landet skiljer sig vitt åt och säkerligen har detta effekter på kvaliteten. Ett sätt att organisera sin äldrevård är via kundvalssystem, där kunden får en vårdpeng som kunden väljer var och hos vem den vill bruka tjänsten inom kommunen. En kommun som kommit långt i sitt utvecklande av kundvalssystemet är Nacka kommun. Med hjälp av enkätundersökningar, intervjuer och andra empiriska studier har vi försökt att utvärdera om kvaliteten inom äldrevården i Nacka kommun har blivit bättre eller sämre sedan införandet.

Oil companies face the dilemma of making sound business without being perceived as environmental villains. In this essay I will examine how BP, one of the largest companies in the world, broke rank with the industry and devoted itself to being an environmental friendly oil company. The actions and motives of this change will be evaluated through up-to-date theories about company motivation to environmental adaptation. We see that BP:s transformation can be well explained through Simone Pulvers theory about the socially embedded company.
