In this paper discourse analysis on the Ethiopian National Action Program (NAP) to combat desertification is made. The aim is to describe how the overall image/picture of desertification, its causes, and effects and of possible solutions are presented in the NAP. The result of this analysis shows that the main cause of desertification is human activities mainly due to the poorly developed socio-economic situation in the dryland areas. It is indicated that an excessive dependency of the rural population on the natural resources, particularly land, is the major cause of land degradation and this deterioration of land is said to have been caused by the rapid population growth, overgrazing, forest clearing as well as past government and institutional failures. In addition it is indicated that the effect of desertification usually involves ecological changes that sap land of its ability to sustain agriculture and human habitation, therefore the most serious threat to human welfare.

I focus on the informants' television viewing and I compare this cross-generational, and in relation to other media use. Material/Method: The method I used in this thesis is qualitative interviews. My choice fell on this method because I believe it to be the most suitable for obtaining the data needed.

Genom en komparativ diskursanalys undersöks i uppsatsen hur media gestaltat två olika humanitära katastrofer. Analysen baseras på ett urval av ledarartiklar som skildrat de båda händelserna. Genom det diskursanalytiska angreppssättet förs mycket textnära resonemang om vad texterna uttrycker. Fokus ligger på hur de olika händelserna omtalas, på vilket sätt händelserna byggs upp och vad de gestaltar. Jämförelsen av två olika händelser är till för att tydligare kunna visa på olika sätt att gestalta händelser samt att studera vilka olika utfall de olika skildringarna kan få.

In this thesis we propose a conceptual plan for thedevelopment of an Agroforestry Training Centre (ATC)in Musoma, Tanzania. The aim is to make a proposalto support peasant education in agroforestry. How canan ATC in Musoma be developed into a stimulatingand educational park suitable for teaching agroforestrymethods to peasant farmers and other potential users?To answer that a field study was conducted to investigatehow our client Vi Agroforestry Programme (Vi) and thetarget groups of the client can benefit from the site.The thesis begins with a short explanation of thecontext, in which the ATC plays a part followed by amethodology chapter. Next are three chapters presentedwhich introduce the reader to the research conductedbefore starting the proposal, these include: results ofliterature studies, study of precedents, and results of fieldstudy.

The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the work situation for temporary workers within the field of journalism. During the past decade, influential external forces such as commercialization, new technologies and increased competition have brought great changes within the industry. As a result, employers value flexibility of manpower, not least to reduce cost, where the flexible employee is usually leased by the media company from a manpower company. Today it is a normal practice with manpower companies and this way of hourly paid form of employment. Although the temporary worker can sometimes benefit from this kind of employment, there are also significant setbacks like job insecurity.

Sätten att titta på TV-serier har utökats de senaste åren i och med Internets allt mer centrala rolli vår mediekonsumtion. Sverige har gått ifrån att vara ett land med en enda public service-kanaltill ett med ett stort utbud av kommersiella TV-kanaler med syfte att locka tittare och annonsörer.I vår studie har vi undersökt aspekter av TV-serier som ligger utanför själva texten. GerardGenette (1997) var den som myntade uttrycket paratext som består av de två delarna peritextoch epitext. Dock är det Jonathan Gray (2010) som pratar om paratexter i relation till TV-serier,medan Genette (1997) endast beskriver paratexter i samband med litteratur. Eftersom det finnsså många olika TV-serier och TV-kanaler är det viktigt för en ny TV-serie att sticka ut blandmängden, samt att skapa en bild av vilken typ av TV-serie den är innan den faktiskt börjat sändas.Vi har använt oss av tre olika metoder för att kunna besvara våra två frågeställningar som rörvilka epitexter TV-kanaler använder sig av och hurvida det finns ett intresse hos tittare att kunnaengagera sig vidare i en TV-serie.

On September 4, 2013, two men were shot in the suburb Biskopsgården in Gothenburg. This was the catalysts to a very problematic autumn in both Biskopsgården as in another suburb, Hisingsbacka. AbstractTitle: A democratic organisation - one click away? A quantitative content analysis which studies the potential of democratic communication through intranet use.Authors: Stina Gabrielsson and Jill Johansson VennelinPurpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate whether there is potential for democratic communication within the NGOs through intranet use.Key questions to be answered were: To what extent is authority versus members represented on the intranet Klick?s discussion forum? What/which communication-related functions out of social function, knowledge transferring and debate are featured in the posts published on the intranet Klick?s discussion forum? Are deliberative discussions being practiced in the discussion forumthreads on the intranet Klick? The thesis is based on the theory of deliberative democracy. In order to substantiate the theory has theoretical perspectives concerning participation and involvement also been applied. These perspectives are derived from organizational theory and internal communication.Method/Material: This study consists of a quantitative content analysis of the 477 posts and the 129 discussion threads available on the NGO RFSU?s intranet Klick the 29th of november 2012.Main results: The results show that 63, 4 percent of those who were active in the discussionforum represented the category authority, while the category members were formed by 36, 6 percent.

The purpose of this study was to investigate how media has followed the Parken Zoo incident and analyse how media convey the issue about the Parken Zoo incident. The different results have been compared. To answer the purpose of the study three issues has been formulated:  how do the different media relate to the ideal of objectivity? Who come across and get to speak in the different media? What differences and similarities are in the media?   The theories that have been used in this study are mainly McCombs theory of agenda setting, Strömbäck?s theory of framing and theory of media logic, Kovach & Rosenstiel theories of journalism and Manning?s theory of objectivity. The methods that have been used are a combination of a quantitative content analysis and a qualitative semiotic analysis.

Background: Media has for a long time been reporting about the audit industry, often focusing on so-called auditing scandals. Economic journalism has grown stronger, the corporations are given more and more power in society and the public interest is increasing. We intend to examine how mass media affects the expectations gap and how the auditing firms operate strengthening the society?s confidence in the industry after mass medial exploitation. Idag är diskussionen om revisorers oberoende och analysmodellen mycket aktuell. Oberoendefrågorna har förts fram i rampljuset efter tätt duggade skandaler, både internationellt och nationellt, där bland annat Enron ? skandalen påträffats. Lagen om analysmodellen infördes i årsskiftet 2001/2002, där syftet med införandet av analysmodellen är att eliminera hotet mot att revisorn kan genomföra en objektiv revision.Nu när det har gått ett par år sedan analysmodellen infördes, är vårt syfte med denna uppsats att undersöka hur analysmodellen upplevs idag. För att kunna uppfylla vårt syfte har vi byggt vår undersökning på både en kvalitativ och kvantitativ studie, där den kvalitativa delen består av byråernas åsikter genom att de får besvara vår enkät med egna ord.

Denna studie avser att undersöka hur arbetsförhållanden för sportjournalister i Sverige ser ut. Den avser även att se huruvida det skett några förändringar över tid, i takt med ett förändrat medieklimat med teknisk utveckling och en hägrande "tidningsdöd". Uppsatsen bygger på frågeställningen "Hur ser yrkesverksamma sportjournalister på sina arbetsförhållanden i relation till det föränderliga medieklimatet?" och "Hur ser sportjournalister på nya digitala verktyg såsom sociala medier och ökad profilering i samband med den digitala utvecklingen?Arbetet baseras på sju stycken kvalitativa intervjuer som konstruerats efter teori kring sportjounalistik, mediekonvergens, samt en tidigare studie av David Hesmondhalgh & Sarah Baker om arbetsförhållanden i de kreativa näringarna i Storbritannien. Intervjurespondenterna bestod avav sju stycken sportjournalister, med minst tio års erfarenhet av yrket.Studiens huvudsakliga resultat visar att sportjournalister idag ofta har väldigt späckade arbetsdagar, med många timmar och fler arbetsuppgifter än tidigare.
