Uppsala universitet, Institutionen för Musikvetenskap, 2009.The aim of this essay is to provide a better understanding of the role of the Swedish opera producer (often called "production manager") and the opera organisation in which he/she works. Very little has been written about this role, in Sweden as well as internationally. To fill this apparent gap, this study presents the results of inteviews with representatives of ten of Swedens´opera organisations, as well as three case studies.

Title: Alexander Technique - Different thoughts on the Alexander Technique and its effect on the singing voice. Does singing lessons cause tension in the student? What should you as a teacher consider to avoid situations that cause tension? This examination is based on interviews. The persons who have been interviewed are singing students, singing teachers and teachers in the Alexander Technique. The literature and the interviews describe the Alexander Technique as a method that, with support of a teacher of the Alexander Technique, helps you to recreate the balance between the cranium, neck and spine.

Title: Music teachers' practising of music - thoughts and values from a few music teachers. This study is about music teachers' valuation of practising music. The study is focused on the music that these teachers are devoted to but is not a part of their teaching in music. The papershows how the relation between music teachers and their ability to be devoted to practising music of their own choice, affects them as individuals. The study is carried out at a Swedish upper secondary school which has an educational programme that is focused on music.

Title: Wes Montgomery and his approach to the guitar's fingerboardThe purpose of this study is toinvestigate Wes Montgomery's approach to the fingerboard. It is based not only on audio but also on the visual performance. The tablature matches exactly with Montgomery's playing. The study analyzes the way he moved on the fingerboard and presents a theory why he moved in that particular way. The study leads to a discussion of various possible explanations for Montgomery's special way of playing.Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka Wes Montgomerys förhållande till gitarrens greppbräda.

Marie Bergman: Lockad till kurs. Varför människor vill lära sig kula idag. Uppsala: Musikvetenskap, 1998. C-uppsats (60 p).Sedan början av 1990-talet har antalet människor som lär sig att kula via olika kurser ökat. Syftet med uppsatsen är att undersöka varför de vill lära sig konsten att kula, vad det därefter betyder för dem, samt ge en bild av en av de kurser i kulning som finns i dag.

In this study the reliability of dominance profiles as a method of establishing a person's learning style was tested. Eight students at Malmö Academy of Music tried three different ways to learn a short melody at the piano. In this way, their preferred way of learning things (either visual, auditive or kinestetic) was established. Five of the students did best when they used a visual cue to learn a melody, and the remaining three did best when auditive cues were used. All but one of the students had the worst result in the kinestetic trial.

I denna uppsats undersöker jag hur musikproducenter ser på sitt samarbete med musiker/artister under en musikproduktion. Metoden för undersökningen är en kvalitativ intervjustudie där tre etablerade svenska musikproducenter intervjuas. Resultaten visar att musikproducenterna lägger stor vikt vid sitt samarbete med artister. Några utav slutsatserna är att musikproducentyrket idag i Sverige handlar mycket om att kunna fatta beslut och agera som en musikalisk vägledare.A recording session - A study about music producers' way to look at their cooperation with artists during recording sessions. In this paper I will investigate how music producers look at their work with musicians/artists during a recording session.

Music not only fun but also necessary. This paper investigates how young people describe their relationship to music. The young people - students - in this study are coming from two different districts of Malmö: One with a population with mainly ethnical Swedish background and the other with a multicultural population. The research question is how we can describe young people's relationship to music on the one hand from the social theories which are presented and on the other hand from own experience as a music teacher. Group interviews are used to get the young people's own descriptions.

Title: Teaching environment and teachers. A study of how music education philosophies influence instrumental teaching and learning at a community music school. Question of the research: Which Music philosophical ideas can be traced in the instrumental teaching of a community music school? Two teachers and their students have been videotaped. Data from the tapes and from interviews with the teachers and students have been analyzed by means of a category system, which grew out of the theoretical overview.

Uppsala Universitet: Institutionen för Musikvetenskap, uppsats för 60p. 2007The aim of this essay is to contribute to the knowledge of the instrumental music of the Düben Collection in Uppsala, by presenting two sonatas by a rather unknown composer, Nicolaus Adam Strungk. A great deal of the music in the Düben collection comes from Nothern Germany so one purpose has also been to investigate if even Strungk's sonatas have stylistic influenses from that region.

Vt 2001.Med utgångspunkt i Bo Wallners frågeställningar kring Stenhammars orkesterrapsodi Midvinter undersöks den folkliga koralen Den signade dag från uppteckning 1902 till rapsodi 1907, med en odaterad fyrstämmig koralsats som mellanled. Stenhammars uppteckning av Moratraditionens Den signade dag, meddelad av en ung Zornmodell, visar melodisk överensstämmelse med en tidigare (1887) och en senare uppteckning (1922) av Moratraditionen, men har en rytmiskt individuell utformning.

Title: "It is logical, but not logical at all compared to every other logical thing." - A study about how students in upper secondary school reflect about their studies in Pitch and music theory.Pitch and music theory is a compulsory subject for music students in the art programme of upper secondary school of Sweden. The aim of the subject is to develop the students? knowledge about music theory concepts in order to help them play and create music on their own. The aim of this paper is to discuss how students talk about ear training and music theory. Qualitative group interviews were carried out with two student groups from the first and second year of the upper secondary school.

Magnus Karlsson: Kulningen av idag. En studie av tre utövare. Uppsala: Musikvetenskap, 1998. C- uppsats (60 p).Syftet med uppsatsen är att studera tre av dagens kulningsutövare. Jag hoppas också kunna åstadkomma ett svar på vad kulningen är och står för i dag.

Gabriel Wilczkowski: Gregorianik hos Maurice Duruflé. En analys av Duruflés Quatre motets.Uppsala: Musikvetenskap, 60 p., 2002Under flera hundra år har tonsättare infogat urgamla gregorianska melodier i sina kompositioner, och traditionen lever kvar än i dag, även i populärmusiken. Denna uppsats syftar att undersöka hur Maurice Duruflé (1902-86) behandlat de gregorianska melodier som han infogat i sina körkompositioner Quatre motets. Undersökningen är gjord med avseende på melodik, text och rytmik. En kort biografi om Duruflë presenteras, jämte ett avsnitt om gregoriansk sång och den rytmteori som tonsättaren stödjer sig på.
