In this thesis I based on Fowler?s method of syntax analysis construct a flow scheme which I then use to make a syntax analysis of former State Secretary Lars Danielsson?s statements, in his autobiography, regarding his responsibility in the Swedish government?s management of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami disaster. The focus of the flow scheme is how grammatical constructions can be used in the interest of rhetoric?s to on the syntax (non-explicit) level of the text indicate and place responsibility with or outside of involved individuals. The main conclusion of the syntax analysis performed is that Danielsson in his autobiography in fact does not use very many of the constructions described in the flow scheme, whereby it can be concluded that the syntax analysis in this case wasn?t so ?revealing?.

The Picture book - text and image in interaction. A study of Tove Jansson's picturebook: The Book About Moomin, Mymble and Little MyThis study examines Tove Jansson's picture book The Book About Moomin, Mymbleand Little My, to show relationships between text and image in the narration of thestory. This is done through an analysis based on Ulla Rhedins dissertation The picturebook - towards a theory where the conclusion is that the picture book as book mediumcan be divided in three different picture concepts. The various concepts are; the epicpicture book, the expanding text as well as the genuine picture book. This study hasperformed a text and image analysis showing that the image colors, the differentspreads, landscape scenes and characters' placement, et cetera play a role in placingthe picture book in its concept.Tove Jansson used more than text and image to work out the story of theMoomintroll, Mymble and Little My, there are holes in the picture book that have animportant role, which the analysis will show.

This is accomplished by observing the different modalities inside the classroom and how the use of different modalities affects the teaching. Unstructured observations combined with a material-based thematic presentation leads up to an analysis based on social semiotics and multimodality. The essay shows how the teaching uses lots of modalities: sound, images, movies, speeches and literary text in lots of different ways. These different types of modalities are used in a multimodal context, providing good conditions for learning..

Syftet med undersökningen var att undersöka hur illustrationer och bilder används i ett läromedel i SO, vilket syfte bilderna har, hur bilder används för att introducera ett nytt kapitel, om text och bild samverkar samt hur kvinnor och män framställs genom bilder i läromedlet. För att undersöka detta har jag analyserat bilderna i läromedlet i form av en dokumentanalys där både bild och text har analyserats. Resultatet visar att bilder används som en del av en multimodal text där bild och text samverkar för att förtydliga och underlätta inlärningen, i en del avsnitt används bilder på ett neutralt informativt sätt medan andra delar i större grad innehåller värderande bilder. Kvinnor och män avbildas inte i lika stor utsträckning, det förekommer betydligt fler män än kvinnor både i form av anonyma och namngivna personer. Slutsatsen av min undersökning är att bilderna fungerar väl i ett pedagogiskt sammanhang men att genusperspektivet saknas och att läromedlet därigenom inte följer kursplanen.  .

Den här studien undersöker hur förutsättningar för lärande förändras genom digital humanities.Utgångspunkt för lärande hämtas ur designteoretiskt multimodalt perspektiv. Teoretiskutgångspunkt för att uppnå förståelse inom digital humanities är hermeneutisk teori. Studien hargenomförts med den öppna metoden litteraturanalys och analyserar antologin DigitalHumanities Pedagogy: Principles, Practices, Politics. Studien använder sig av en Multimodal Kritisk Diskursanalys (MCDA) för att analysera vanliga människor i reality-TV ur ett klassperspektiv. Syftet är att undersöka huruvida programmet Ullared reproducerar idéer om klass och hur detta gör sig synligt genom konstruktionen av karaktären Morgan. Studien använder sig av ett teoretiskt ramverk bestående av vanlighet, klass, diskurs och skratt. I analysen undersöks utvalda sekvenser där semiotiska resurser granskas för att se hur de arbetar för att konstruera Morgan. Resultatet visar på att musik och videoredigering är två viktiga resurser i konstruktionen av Morgan, dock har allt som ses och hörs i bild en komplex samverkan med varandra som bidrar till slutkonstruktionen.

This thesis is comprised of an annotated translation of an English IT-text into Swedish. The source text is the installation manual for the software SDL Trados Studio 2014 and the thesis also contains a text analysis of the source text. The goal of the translation has been to use norms in the target culture and thus move the translation toward acceptability. The thesis therefore discusses norms based on Toury's (1995) framework.The thesis also contains an empirical study of the translation of three different IT-texts. The study shows that, when it comes to the specific norms investigated in the study, Swedish translations of IT-texts are guided by norms in both the source culture and the target culture..

Undersökningen fokuserar på beskrivningarna av de aktuella gymnasieprogrammen som finns på skolornas webbplatser. Detta görs för att åskådliggöra modelläsare på dessa sidor. En modelläsare är en läsare som författaren förutser vid producerande av en text men också något som skapas i texten (se Eco, 1979). This report describes the master thesis project ?Weight Optimization of a Composite Chassis for a Multimodal Lightweight Vehicle? which is a part of the Master program in Naval Architecture and a part of a research project at the Centre for Naval Architecture, KTH. Demands on smart and energy efficient transport solutions are continuously increasing. In the Stockholm region the citizens are expected to increase with 25% and the road vehicles with 80% until 2030, putting high demands on the traffic system. Using a small multimodal vehicle deals with this problem and uses both the land and waterways for transportation.

This master?s thesis investigates the contextualized relation between a reader and a text, in a non classroom-oriented situation. I am studying the questions of (a) in what way a persons education, personal experiences and opinions, and (b) how the text; its design (language) and message, holds a function in ? and forms ? the reader-text relation. At the same time I am testing the theoretical framework of Louise Rosenblatt, for the purpose of finding an adequate method to analyze this relation.

Det finns ett behov inom vårdsektorn att på ett mera effektivt sätt kunna bedöma om patienter med Parkinsons sjukdom har rätt medicinering. Behovet ligger i att se om det är möjligt att med hjälp av ett IT-system kunna göra bedömningen på distans och på så sätt effektivisera processen.I och med att Parkinsonpatienter har symptom som t.ex. överrörlighet är inte traditionella lösningar med styrenheter såsom mus och tangentbord lämpliga. Istället har ett användargränssnitt baserat på multimodal interaktion utformats, där användaren interagerar med systemet genom röststyrning och rörelseigenkänning.Detta har gjorts med hjälp av Microsofts Kinect kamera, som är ett verktyg som möjliggör bredare och mer betydelsefull multimodal interaktion mellan människa och dator. Design av gränssnittet har gjorts efter etablerade designprinciper där användbarhet har legat i fokus.

This essay examines the epideictic genre by using qualitative method to analyze acceptance speeches from the Swedish Grammy awards. These speeches and their speakers are often described as rhetorically mediocre and there seems to be a notion within the music community that an acceptance speech is personal and without deeper meaning. From a functionalistic perspective on genre, these speeches can be seen as working together with other genres that carry information about the winners. Why would skilled performers who know how to entertain an audience choose to repeat rhetorical mistakes? This essay uses different perspectives on rhetorical situation and genre as well as multimodal analysis of verbal- and nonverbal communication, to argue that these particular speeches in this particular situation come with their own set of expectations and values that the speakers have to acknowledge if they are to meet the epideictic purpose: To unite the audience around common values and create an enjoyable collective memory.

The purpose of this research is to study the new curriculum in the topic of modern languages in the upper secondary school, and compare the curriculum from year 2011 with the one from year 2000 and thus try to find differences in the content and wordng. The research also aims to investigate teachers' interpretations and understanding of the new curriculum. The study is divided into two sub?studies and those are based on the two methods of text analysis and interview. Text analysis of policy documents is made parallell with some aspects found in the background materials of the upper secondaryschool reform, which can be summarized as precision and globalization.

The purpose with this thesis was to study the special pedagogical perspectives that stood out in documents written by the special teachers in preschool. In order to maintain the thesis research questions a text analysis was carried out on the document ?Handledningssamtal? that was used by the special teachers in their contact with the teachers in preschool. The documents were analyzed based in the special educational perspectives and the results and measures from the analysis were divided into three levels; individual, group and organizational level. Finally a study of the connection between the analysis and the measures was carried out and the result was reported in a typology schedule inspired by earlier research.
