This thesis presents a comparative study of image registration at two picture collection libraries. The two registration systems are analyzed as to the theoretical principles behind them and their practical application, and related to theoretical tools for subject analysis and bibliographic standards. While a growing number of picture collections now digitize their material, generally accepted standards and methods for the registration of digital images are still lacking. Many different systems coexist, often developed in-house in response to ad hoc needs and based on traditional registration tools created for textual documents, resulting in internationally incompatible mixed-format systems. The two picture collections examined here, however, have opted for similar, standardized tools for registration and subject analysis, and while there are differences in their application and focus, they have both considered issues of cross-system compatibility.

The education sector can be seen as a cornerstone of today's society, an organization that is under constant change and evolve as society. The compulsory school system is of significant role in society that places high demands on its management. The following study investigates the requirements for documentation in primary school organization and operations, and how these requirements are perceived and affect the school's organization and activities of the study carried out at different levels of the organization so as to get an overall picture of its impact. In order to analyze and create understanding of the results, the study applies the theory of New Public Management and various reforms that can be linked to the increased documentation requirements and its influence in the public administration. Study results show that there is a mixed picture of the documentation impact on the school system. Shown are both positive and negative effects of the documentation requirements.

I föreliggande studie undersöktes episodisk igenkänning av namn och dess relation till två olika former av pre-experimentell kunskap, namnfrekvens och celebritet. Frekvens operationaliserades som antalet träffar i den nationella telefonkatalogen och celebritet som antalet träffar i massmediala webbsidor. Fyrtiosju studenter deltog i ett episodiskt igenkänningstest i en mixed modell design, där 192 namn användes, vilka kombinerades till fyra olika grupper som variationer av de två faktorerna. Mellangruppsvariabeln var ökad uppmärksamhet för celebritet för den ena gruppen där fpp instruerades att bedöma namn som celebra eller icke celebra, och ökad uppmärksamhet för frekvens för den andra där fpp instruerades att bedöma namn som vanliga eller ovanliga. Celebritet var positivt och frekvens negativt associerat med korrekt igenkänning, och resultatet gav upphov till en generalisering av ordfrekvenseffektens förklaring till namn, varpå en namnfrekvenseffekt presenterades.

This essay has an aim to map out the discourses in the debate around local self government and national equivalence, which are both essential democratic values. The essay is delimited to the area of the comprehensive school. Interviews have been made with key persons in different positions in a selected municipality. I also use material that has been written in the context of Ansvarskommittén. The material is analysed using an integrated discourse analysis.

The essay discusses the effects that changes to the office plan have on organizational culture. Information about actual change as well as expected change in organizational culture was gathered before the empirical research was initiated. The empirical research was carried out at the Customer Logistics department at Ericsson through: an interview with a manager in charge of the relocation and design of the office, a manager for the specified department and also five employees of this department. The empirical studies show that there was a significant change in organizational culture and that results were not always as expected. There was a loss in symbolic actions, which needed to be compensated for, a perceived reduction in spontaneous communication, and a mixed response of perceived change in social interaction.

The exclusion of visually impaired from the information flow presented to us through signs was what led me into this project. With a growing amount of information being presented to us on signs and digital information surface the need of communicating this information in a way that could be read by visually impaired is evident. Looking into different ways of communication, my goal was to create something that filled the need of the visually impaired without branding them as disabled. Having a close relative with bad eyesight is became evident on how much it limited her in her everyday life, not being able to navigate herself without the support of her husband. Through interviews with her and others with varying diagnoses I reached an insight in their situation. To my surprise they still favored a visual form of communication before an auditory or tactile form, because it?s easy to survey and quick to interpret.

My study is about how parents talk to their children about alcohol. The purpose of my study was to study how young teenagers communicate with their parents about alcohol. I also wanted to find out if parents have any influence over their children's choice of drinking. I have chosen to look at these questions from the perspective that alcohol is a cultural phenomenon, that children is a part of a family system and that alcohol can be viewed as a part of the children's liberation from their parents. I used a qualitative research method and interviewed five young teenagers, who are students at upper secondary schools ("gymnasium" in Swedish) in Lund, they where all under 18 years old.

The use of forage maize has increased over the last years. The aim of this litterateur review was to summarize a part of the research that has been conducted on forage maize for growing cattle, including cultivation and conservation of the maize. The forage maize is planted in April or the beginning of May when the temperature in the soil is between 6 and 10°C. Maize needs high temperatures and much water. Maize is harvested in the autumn when the dry matter (DM) is more then 30% or the plants have been exposed to the first frost in the autumn.

Detta arbete har varit ett examensarbete för högskoleingenjörsprogrammet i innovationsteknik och design vid Karlstads universitet.?Examensarbetet omfattade 22,5 högskolepoäng och har utförts av Andreas Holmén.?Handledare från Karlstads universitet var industridesigner och universitetsadjunkt Lennart Wihk och examinator var proffessor Fredrik Thuvander.Examensarbetet var en del av ett större projekt som involverade ytterligare fem studenter. Projektet var ett industrisamarbete mellan Karlstads universitet, Glava energy center och företaget Värmestugan AB.Projektet är uppbyggt kring en idé om att kunna energieffektivisera uppvärmningen av tappvatten genom att kombinera solvärme- och värmepumpsteknik. Första fasen av projektet genomförde projektgruppen gemensamt, när gruppen enades om ett huvudkoncept fokuserades det på de enskilda problemformuleringarna för respektive examensarbete.Den del av projektet detta specifika arbete avsåg att lösa var vilka krav som var lämpliga för en funktionsprototyp med syftet att tilltala en investerare eller samarbetspartner. Men även hur man på bästa sätt kunde uppnå dessa krav inom tidsramen för projektet och med de resurser?som fanns tillgängliga.Uppgiften löstes genom att genomföra en research som sammanställdes med hjälp av en funktionsanalys och en semantisk analys till en kravspecifikation.

This report contains results of our study at CTC in Ljungby. CTC produces heating products such as boilers, heat pumps and additional products to their heating systems.The purpose of the report is to make a proposal how CTC will supply their new production line for heat pumps with materials. The proposal includes a production layout and a scheme for how to place the material in the production storage.The new production line will produce two different products and both of them have several variants. The line will also have a mixed flow, so the products can be produced in a random order. These conditions demand that the production line has great flexibility and that the material to all the variants can be stored in the production storage.With these conditions as input we made a layout proposal to the company.

This essay discusses the subjective observations and opinions on the Swedish concept of stegintegrering, a form of mixed grade education in the subject modern languages at upper secondary level. I interviewed two headmasters, four teachers and conducted an online survey with 39 pupils in order to find out what effects the concept of stegintegrering has on teaching and learning from a teacher and pupil perspective. Due to the extent of this essay no general conclusions can be made but certain connections could be found. For once there was a connection between group size and the possibility of teaching each group separately during one lesson per week and the attitude of the concerned teachers and pupils towards stegintegrering. While both headmasters and teachers claimed that the cooperation between pupils across all levels was the main purpose of stegintegrering as it helps their learning and understanding, my study showed that many pupils did not really want to cooperate and that teachers often find it hard to construct tasks that stimulate every group.

Today's young people find themselves in an intense media traffic where many messages have a commercial nature. Some such messages are for example different types of advertising in various media and advertising often plays on the uncertainty that may be common in adoles-cence. New interactive media like blogs on the Internet has been established in recent years. Mixed types of media content, advertising with different messages, appear in blogs. Therefore, I am interested in how blogs on the Internet can influence young people's creation of their identity.

This report describes a project carried out in cooperation with Klippan Safety AB. The purpose of this project has been to develop a product that facilitates the living area in a truck cabin for the customers. To be able to develop, in a structured way, that kind of product, the project has been based on different product development theories. The project contained of following parts: marketing research, product generation, product evaluation and prototyping. After information from the marketing research and discussions with the company, the decision was made that the task was going to consist an improvement of the existing product referred to as 'the comfort module'.

This paper sets out to investigate how companies can create advertisement that focus not only on selling but also on entertainment. The research is based on seven TV-commercials produced by the Swedish food chain ICA. The commercials were analyzed according to the methods of discourse analysis, semiotic analysis and rhetorical analysis. Furthermore, the research compares the analysis made with the thoughts and ideas of Tobias Karlsson, Head of marketing and communications development at ICA to find out how the comprehension of the commercials correlate with the original intentions made by the company.The study shows that ICA creates a commercial that contains the perfect mix of rhetorical approaches, communication strategies and entertainment mixed with gravity. The study also shows that ICA fails with its primary goal which is to sell selected products; however, by producing the entertaining commercials, they manage to strengthen their brand.

I takt med att IT växer i samhället driver detta också fram efterfrågan på IT-system och mjukvaror för att effektivisera organisationer och verksamheter. För att bedriva systemutvecklingsarbete behövs människor som utvecklar IT-system. I bästa fall motsvarar dessa system kundens förväntningar och önskemål, men i värsta fall kan systemutvecklingsarbetet utmynna i system som inte är till nytta för kunden och slutanvändarna. För att skapa hållbara och kvalitativa IT-system är det viktigt att kunden och slutanvändaren sätts i fokus genom att människorna som håller i system-utvecklingsarbetet förstår "varför" något skall skapas och kan sätta det i realitet till den miljö som IT-systemet skall fungera i. Systemutveckling måste bedrivas utifrån flera viktiga principer och faktorer som i sin tur påverkar val av utvecklingsmetod och vilken typ av utvecklingsmetod och filosofi som passar ställs i relation till hur den rådande situationen ser ut.
