Den här uppsatsen utgår från en svensk översättning av ett avsnitt ur Steven Pinkersbok The language instinct: the new science of language and Mind (1994), samt enanalys av några av de problem som påträffades i översättningsarbetet. De problemområden som analyseras berör översättningen av de språkliga exempel, kulturspecifika företeelser och det personliga bildspråk som förekommer i källtexten. Analysen visar att många av källtextens språkexempel måste behållas på engelska för att argumentationen och budskapet ska bli tydligt även för en svenskspråkig läsare.Även i översättningen av de kulturspecifika företeelserna och det personliga bildspråketbehöver textens engelskspråkiga ursprung göras tydligt för att inte budskapet,argumentationen och den personliga prägeln ska gå förlorad. Däremot behövs imånga fall tydliggörande pragmatiska tillägg göras för den svenskspråkiga läsaren..

Examensarbetets syfte är att identifiera möjligheter samt svårigheter med att översätta varumärkesplattformen till grafiska profilen. För att förtydliga och få inblick i verklighetens kontext i forskningsområdet, visuell kommunikation, har en fallstudie utförts på Baronen Köpcentrum.Tillvägagångssättet för datainsamlingen utgår ifrån en kvalitativ metod med ett induktivt angreppssätt. Det empiriska materialet utgörs delvis av sex respondentintervjuer med titlarna grafisk profilerare, Art Director, projektledare, centrumledare samt varumärkesstrateg. Dessutom består empirin utav en marknadsundersökning som genomförts med 100 tillfrågade kunder hos Baronen Köpcentrum. Ambitionen är att undersöka om den visuella kommunikationen uppfattas i enlighet med företagets varumärkesbudskap utifrån varumärkesplattformen.

This study is focused on some individuals' experience of the concept of culture in their everyday life. Some questions about culture were asked to some persons living in a small village in the isle of Gotland and some persons in the capital of Sweden, Stockholm, in the autumn in 2007 in a field study.The study showed that peopele tend to shape their own life world in the continuous activity in their near surroundings, in the garden and in reading literature and listening to music. There were some differences in the life world depending on where they lived,  in the country side or in town. Urban life has more offers as to popera and theatres but negatively more violence and stress.A study of literature on the ethnological concept of culture is included. The answers of the individuals also led to different topics such as nostalgia, Mind, fear, feelings, body and soul which were enlightened by scientist from the respective fields..

This paper aims to explore the reception in Sweden of the work and ideas of neuroscientist Antonio R Damasio, expressed in his four published books. The material used is mainly articled and reviews published in Sweden between 1995 and 2011 regarding Damasio?s books. To analyze the reception, paradigm theories by Kuhn, and Bourdieu?s ideas regarding field, habitus and capital has been used.

Vellinge is one of few municipalities in Sweden that refuses to accept refugees. The subject of this thesis is to find out how the local politicians in Vellinge make their considerations when they decide not to welcome refugees. The analysis uses the representation theory as a starting point. The two ideals of the representative role, either as a bound mandate or as a free independent role, is the base of the analysis. Vellinge is in the analysis compared to Lomma, a very similar municipality in southern Sweden that for a long time alsohas refused to accept refugees, however suddenly in 2007 decided to change their Mind.

A picture says more than thousand words - an analysis of GQ Magazine´s cover images and ninth grade student´s views of them is an essay in media and communication studies covering 15 hp. This essay examines how men and women are depicted on the cover of GQ Magazine and how ninth grade students perceive these images. Our research questions are: How is gender presented in cover images? How do the students interpret these images? What possible differencies or similarities are there? Our theoretical framework is based on gender theory. Methods used are a survey conducted at Tegs Central school and a semiotic analysis of the cover images.

The purpose of this thesis is to study the personal problems that can occur when defecting from a destructive cult, and what kind of support you may need from social authorities. The aim is to develop guidelines for social workers who are in contact with sect defectors. It?s a qualitative study based on interviews with six defectors from Jehovah?s witnesses. The results shows that all the defectors that have been interviewed have had anxiety problems, lost contact with friends and relatives, low level of education, and low self esteem when defecting or after.
