Det här examensarbetet har utförts på Metso Paper Karlstad AB, Karlstad. Arbetet ingår som avslutande del i maskiningenjörsprogrammet vid Karlstads universitet. Metso Paper Karlstad AB tillverkar mjukpappersmaskiner vilket man har gjort i drygt hundra år. Idag är man en världsledande leverantör med kunder över hela världen, hälften av världens mjukpapper (tissue) tillverkas idag på en maskin levererad från Metso.  Produktionen vid Metso Paper Karlstad AB har under åren genomgått ett antal omorganisationer, vilka har påverkat tillverkningen. Någon större anpassning av verkstadslayouten har inte gjorts under de gångna åren vilket i sin tur har påverkat produktiviteten.

The purpose of this paper is to examine and analyze past development of mutual funds in large and small mutual fund companies and see if there are any differences between these two segments. Limitations on the number of funds have been made by choosing Nordic mutual fund companies that invest in emerging markets over an 11-year period. The study is made on 66 mutual funds managed by 13 mutual fund companies in which the segment of small fund companies includes seven fund companies with assets under management less than 100 billion SEK and the segment of large mutual fund companies includes six fund companies with assets under management more than 400 billion SEK. In the comparison of the segments the Sharpe ratio has been used to calculate the risk-adjusted return. The study shows small differences of the risk-adjusted return between the segments.

Metso Paper in Karlstad is acquiring Kvaerner Pulping and Kvaerner Kamfab, also located in Karlstad. Following this acquisition, there are going to be changes in the organizational structure and some employees might even loose their jobs. There are guidelines from the European Union how to handle situations like this, the purpose of these are to protect the employees. There are also Swedish laws that regulate the protection of the employees when a company is acquired, who is going to keep their job and who is to be made redundant.The transaction between the companies is large why they need an approval from the European Union. The European Union has certain demands for the approval.

AbstractThis thesis is the final part of the Innovation and Design Engineering Programme (180 ECTS credits)at the Faculty of Health, Nature and Engineering Science at Karlstad University. The extent of thisthesis is 22.5 ECTS credits and has been performed independently by Hannes Jernberg during thespring of 2013. Metso Paper Karlstad AB is the task maker of this project, and Arvid Johansson is thecompany Representative. Metso Paper Karlstad AB is one of the world leading developer andmanufacturer of tissue paper machines.In the current situation, the company has developed and patented a power management systembased on a Cross Flow Turbine. The current construction is limited to a paper width of 2.9 meters.The company wants to take advantage of all the opportunities provided by the patents, to develop aturbine solution paper machine with a paper width that is wider than 5.5 meters, and give the abilityto manufacture paper for lower energy consumption which is an important part of the production asit is very energy intensive.Problems arise with the increasing length of the turbine, ultimately resulting in that the deflectionbecomes too big and that the momentums, due to the increased torque the turbine blades breaks.By applying the design process, this work has resulted in a number of potential solutions to theproblem.

Det här examensarbetet har genomförts i samarbete med Metso Dynapac AB i Karlskrona. På deras asfaltsvältar finns idag olika modeller av körspakar. De har samma grundfunktion och bör kunna samordnas till ett gemensamt reglage. Detta ger möjligheter att använda rationell tillverkningsmetod p.g.a. volymen.

För att skaffa sig en uppfattning om det framtida servicebehovet av sym- och sugvalsar har antalet valsar som Metso Paper AB tillverkat tagits fram ur en databas. De övriga valstyperna som t.ex. tambourvalsar anses vara konstanta. Ur databasen har specifik information om valsarna tagits fram som t.ex. tillverkningsår och valstyp.

Bakgrund: Under senare år har många företag valt mer processorienterad inriktning påverksamheten, framförallt i syfte för att förbättra kundvärdet. Många företag har enmer hierarkisk struktur i utgångsläget, vilket innebär att vertikal och horisontellstruktur kombineras. Ett vanligt misstag är då att nya processorienterade styrmedelinförs, utan att existerande vertikalt orienterade styrmedel tas bort. Detta leder tillatt företagets styrmedel sänder ut motstridiga styrsignaler. För att öka företagetsmöjlighet att uppnå uppsatta mål, så krävs det att dess styrmedel är kompatibla.I sämre tider är det vanligt att företag formulerar mål med Net Working Capital somgrund.

Smurfit Kappa Kraftliner i Piteå tillverkar kraftliner med sina två pappersmaskiner. I dagsläget transporteras tamborer, rullar med kraftliner, mellan pappersmaskinerna till rullmaskinerna med traverser. Traversanvändningen i produktion ger slitage med hög underhållskostnad som följd, vilket de vill minska. Detta examensarbete utförs för att erhålla en marknadsundersökning på alternativa transportsystem. I undersökningen jämförs kostnaderna för alternativens system mot kostnaderna för det befintliga systemet.

Detta examensarbete utfördes på Metso Minerals (Sala) AB i Sala mellan mars och augusti 2006 och handlar om kartläggning av ledtiden vid produktlinje pump. Förutom kartläggningen har även analys och förslag till förbättring arbetats fram. Denna rapport är resultatet av detta examensarbete vilket har skrivits som avslutning på programmet Ergonomisk design& produktion med inriktning Industriell produktion vid Luleå Tekniska Universitet. Metso Minerals (Sala) AB har cirka 200 anställda och är en del av affärsområdet Minerals. Verksamheten i Sala tillverkar slurrypumpar samt processmaskiner och är en stor leverantör av pumpar till mineral och processindustrin.

A global world and international business induces not only opportunities for organizations such as increased possibilities to reach new markets but also challenges to maintain a coherent business. To meet these challenges, organizations need to harbor a global workforce where employees are sent abroad. These employees are called expatriates and receive very lucrative compensation packages to cover their increased expenses. Compensation packages are not only expensive but represent in their totality also a complex strategic challenge for both the organization and the expatriate. The purpose of this paper is to investigate which components of a compensation package that are important for different segments of expatriates.

The purpose of this thesis is to gain a holistic understanding of who are the consumers of fortified health food products; moreover to highlight what are the characteristics of the consumers who are likely to purchase these products. This thesis employed a quantitative strategy with an inductive and a grounded theory approach. The data was collected from a research company. Existing theories in the area of functional food were not possible to find. Considering that the area is new this seems plausible; however, previous studies provided insight for substantive framework.

This master?s thesis examines the possibility to heuristically optimise instruction cache performance in a Just-In-Time (JIT) compiler. Programs that do not fit inside the cache all at once may suffer from cache misses as a result of frequently executed code segments competing for the same cache lines. A new heuristic algorithm LHCPA was created to place frequently executed code segments to avoid cache conflicts between them, reducing the overall cache misses and reducing the performance bottlenecks. Set-associative caches are taken into consideration and not only direct mapped caches.

The interest for functional strength training in golf has grown the last decade and scientists are always trying to find training stategies to improve the biomechanical aspects of the swing. Kinematic sequence contains a proximal-to-distal sequence order towards impact, and an effective kinematic sequence in the down swing begins with a rotation in the pelvis and follows by an activation in thorax, arms and club in the respective order. The rotational torques in the proximal segments wanders through the body and to the more distal segments to create an effective energy ? and power transfer at impact. The x-factor stretch is the seperation between the rotation in the pelvis and the thorax at the top of the back swing and at the beginning of the down swing.

Orust Kretsloppsakademi is a nonprofit organisation, with a goal of annually generate the same amount of electrical energy that is consumed. Orust is an island on the west coast of Sweden, north of Gothenburg. The population of 15 000 reaches 40 000 during summer, due to the large amount of vacationer. The total electricity demand is 174 GWh a year with a maximum power need of 32 MW. This report presents an analysis for the plausibility of their plan and from a power system stability perspective, the effects on the electrical grid.The conclusion is that the restraints for development of power generation from wind, solar and wave generation, are the power systems capability to transfer power, primarily in the transformers of the grid.
