Effects of Menstrual Cycle and Oral Contraceptives on Sport Performance During the menstrual cycle, there is a variation of the female steriod hormones estrogen and progestogen. These hormones has mainly reproduktive functions, but do also affect other physiological systems, which may have an influence on athletic performance. The use of oral contraceptives among female athletes matches the use among the general population. There is a concern among female athletes and there coaches weather oral contraceptives can affect the performance. The purpose of this litterature review is to determine the effect of the menstrual cycle and the use of oral contraceptives on athletic performance.

BackgroundHeart failure is an increasing chronic disease in the western world due to an aging population and a changed lifestyle. The basic treatment is pharmacological with substantial lifestyle changes. Much is known about physical exercise in middle aged and younger patients but in the patients over the age of 65, little is known. AimThe aim of this study was to investigate the effects of physical exercise on patients aged over 65 with congestive heart failure. MethodA systematic review was undertaken in the databases Cinahl and PubMed.

Background: Running economy is one of the key factors to achieve top performance in endurance events. Little evidence exists for improving running economy using high-intensity interval training while running. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine how HIIT affects running economy and VO2max. Method: 14 well-trained athletes (age 35 ± 8,9 years, height 175 ± 11,7 cm and weight 69 ± 12,2 kg) were divided into two separate groups (HIIT and Control). HIIT group performed 3 HIIT exercises every week for 4 weeks and Control group continued with their separate training programs consisting of mostly traditional endurance training. Results: Running economy showed no improvement in HIIT (pre 38,62 and post 38,62 ml/kg/min, p=1.00) but Control improved (pre 45,41 and post 43,37 ml/kg/min, p=0,03). VO2max decreased in HIIT (mean 61,32 to 60,84 ml/kg/min) and in Control (mean 61,99 to 58,47 ml/kg/min)..

Miljövärdering av resurssnål betong med införande i BIM
This thesis aims to illustrate how environmental impact can be reduced, through the use of lean concrete. It also illustrates how environmental data can be applied to a house through implementation with BIM. In this study a unique concrete structure developed by Swedish Cement and Concrete Research Institute is assessed for environmental impact, by calculating the carbon dioxide equivalents using LCA methodology. The construction is a sandwich element where the concrete is made ??up of three layers.
GIH:s Gångtest : hur korrelerar resultaten från GIH:s gångtest med bestämd maximal syreupptagningsförmåga?
SammanfattningSyfte och frågeställningarSyftet var att studera sambandet mellan GIH:s Gångtest och bestämd maximal syreupptagningsförmåga (VO2max). En av frågeställningarna var om GIH:s Gångtest är ett alternativt test för att försöka predicera maximal syreupptagningsförmåga hos friska fysiskt aktiva unga vuxna.MetodI studien ingick 45 fysiskt aktiva personer (26 kvinnor och 19 män) i åldrarna 19-28 år. De två genomförda testerna är GIH:s Gångtest (ett 6-minuters gångtest) och bestämning av maximal syreupptagningsförmåga med löpning på ett motordrivet rullband.GIH:s gångtest är ett shytteltest där testpersonen (Tp) går fram och tillbaka på en 50 meter lång sträcka och runda två koner. Tp får gå denna sträcka så många gånger som möjligt under 6 minuter. Vid testets slut mättes maximal gångsträcka, puls och ansträngningsgrad.Testet för att bestämma maximal syreupptagningsförmåga utfördes med löpning på ett motordrivet rullband.

Bakgrund: Träning medför hormonella förändringar och anpassning av vävnader. Under kvinnans menstruationscykel fluktuerar halten könshormoner. International Organization for Physical Therapy in Women?s Health (IOPTWH) anser att vårdutbildningar på grundnivå bör inkludera kunskap kring kvinnans specifika fysiologi. Detta bör tas hänsyn till och inkluderas i sjukgymnastens arbete, rehabilitering och träning av kvinnliga patienter.
Effect of liming and free Ca2+ on Cd uptake of carrots, Daucus carota
The level of cadmium (Cd) in Swedish arable land has increased during the last century and the average concentration of Cd in the plough layer is today 0.23 mg/kg. The increase is mainly due to anthropogenic activities such as phosphorus fertilizing, liming, import of feed, and atmospheric deposition from industrial emissions. Cadmium in the soil will be taken up by crops and is thereby transferred to humans via food. Carrot is one of the crops of concern, both because it may contain quite high Cd concentrations and due to the large consumption in Sweden. In the body, Cd is stored mainly in the liver and the kidneys and may cause several diseases already at low concentrations.

AbstractElderly people are going to be a growing number in Europe. Between one third are going to be 60 years or older at 2025. For Sweden the situation is going to be similar. A reduced muscle function could lead to complications for the individual to perform daily tasks and will lead to a higher rate for falling and getting bone fractures. The positive sides are that for men and women there are a possibility for maintaining physical function and strength even in older years.

Glycogen is the storage form of glucose and is used by the skeletal musculature as energy both for intense and endurance events. The glycogen content in the horse?s middle gluteal muscle is more than 600 mmol/kg dry weight, and almost 400 mmol/kg dry weight in the human?s Vastus lateralis. In some special occasions, for example in competitions with several moments on following days, there is a need of a fast muscle glycogen resynthesis. The feed intake is of importance for the velocity of the resynthesis.
Effektiv styrketräning för vältränade med fokus på att öka maximal styrka och muskelmassa: en litteraturstudie
Bakgrund: Styrketräning kan öka muskelstyrka och muskelmassa för såväl otränade motionärer som vältränade elitidrottare. Teorierna kring effekterna av olika typer av styrketräning baseras i stor del av forskning på otränade individer. Syfte: Syftet med denna studie var att undersöka vilken form av styrketräning som ger en frisk, redan vältränad individ störst ökning i maximal styrka och/eller muskelmassa. Metod: Studien är en litteraturöversikt med granskning och bedömning av studier som avhandlat olika styrketräningsformer på vältränade individer med >2 månaders erfarenhet utav styrketräning och som utvärderat resultatet i maximal styrka eller muskelmassa. Artiklar söktes i databasen PubMed.

The thesis project is accomplished during winter and spring 2008 at Karlstad University at the faculty of technology and science. The tutor at Karlstad University is Nils Hallbäck and the examiner is Hans Johansson. Rolls-Royce at Kristinehamn in Sweden is the initiator for the project. The thesis project title is design of the blade bolt joint on Kamewa CPP. CPP stands for controllable pitch propeller.

In this study it has been investigated what is missing in non-strength training women to begin exercise regular strength training. It has also examined the level of knowledge about the health benefits and the employer's encouragement to maintain good health. The study was designed in a qualitative methodology and data collection was designed in form of semi-structured interviews. Six women were interviewed between the ages 22-51år. The results showed that women possessed a very low level of knowledge about strength training and also fears and prejudices existed among them.
