In the digitized world many organizations experience a large flow of information. To sort and manage all the information can be difficult. Individuals may experience a phenomenon called ?Information Overload?, due to the fact that the information flow is too extensive. There are various reasons why individuals are affected by this phenomenon.

The aim of this Master?s thesis is to examine the retrieval performance of two search engines, Yahoo! News and Sesam, specialized on indexing news articles in Swedish. Thirty search questions were used in this study, divided into three different categories: domestic news, amusement and sport. Precision has been calculated both for the 30 search questions as a total and for the three categories as well. Precision was calculated at every DCV-level and then divided with the number of search questions used, in an attempt to reach an average measure.

The purpose of this essay is to perform an evaluation regarding retrieval performance of three web search engines. The search engines included are All the Web, Alta Vista and Google. These have been tested using ten queries within different subject areas chosen by the author. The first twenty hits for each question have been analyzed for relevancy. Relevancy is judged on a three-point scale; 0, 0,5 and 1 where 0 goes to irrelevant and inactive or duplicate documents, 0,5 point goes to partially relevant documents and 1 point goes to highly relevant documents.

Syftet med uppsatsen är att ur ett ledningsperspektiv öka förståelsen för motiven till varför/varför inte kunskapsintensiva tjänsteföretag väljer att visualisera intellektuellt kapital. I uppsatsen har den kvalitativa metoden använts. Vi har samlat in primärdatan genom telefonintervjuer och frågeformulär via e-mail. I analysen har vi tolkat den insamlade datan för att kunna få en förståelse av forskningsfrågan. Det som tydligt framträder i vår undersökning är att kunskapsintensiva tjänsteföretag väljer att visualisera intellektuellt kapital för att visa sitt verkliga värde, erhålla uppmärksamhet och utvecklas internt.

This thesis deals with the development of a specification regarding a push-button, which will be used to control the gear-shifting function in an automobile. In addition to this the author will describe different techniques and theories that have been helpful in achieving data and results for the specification.Kongsberg Automotive AB, is located in Mullsjö, Sweden, the company supplies parts to the automotive industry. In the research and development department, R&D, there is a group that works with development of Shift-By-Wire systems. In an automobile with a Shift-By-Wire system the communication between the gear-shifter and the gear-box occurs electronically. The mechanical link is, in most cases, taken away and replaced by the digital system.

Shorter hospital stays increases the need for well functioning post hospital aftercare. Persons close to the patient are often involved in the aftercare and need information about self-care. This need is frequently not satisfied. The aim of this study was to investigate if the next-of-kin of patients cared for at the thoracic clinic at Uppsala University hospital, have received information about self-care and how they perceive the information they have been given. METHOD: To investigate this, questionnaires were sent out by mail.

Quickmatch is a company that recruits students to other companies that need temporary workers. Today all administration is done by hand, which is very time demanding and therefore inefficient. Vår studie handlar om läs- och skrivsvårigheter och dyslexi i grundskolan och hur man som lärare upptäcker och arbetar med de elever som har svårigheter, vilket också har varit vårt syfte genom arbetets gång. Det finns ett intresse för dessa elever med läs- och skrivsvårigheter eftersom det för dem innebär en stor problematik att dagligen handskas med detta ? både i vardagliga situationer och i skolan. Eftersom dyslexi och läs- och skrivsvårigheter är ett vanligt förekommande problem anser vi att vi, som blivande lärare behöver mer kunskap kring ämnet då vi med all säkerhet kommer att träffa på elever med dessa svårigheter, och när det händer vill vi kunna möta dessa elever med svårigheter på bästa möjliga vis. Vi har valt att bygga vår empiri på intervjuer med grundskolelärare, specialpedagog och speciallärare, där några intervjuer varit öga mot öga och en del via mail..

Det övergripande syftet med denna undersökning var att studera dans som verktyg för lärande. Studien fokuserar på dansens betydelse för lärandet i matematik samt lärares och elevers uppfattningar om dansmatte. I studien har vi genomfört kvalitativa intervjuer med elever, dans- och matematiklärare som arbetar med dansmatte samt läst relevant litteratur som rör matematik och lärande, estetiska lärprocesser och dans som verktyg för lärandet. Några av intervjuerna utfördes på en skola som arbetar med dansmatte och några via telefon och e-mail. Det centrala som framkom i studien var att alla, utom en medverkande elev, är eniga om att dansmatte är ett bra medel för lärande i matematik och eleverna påstod att de lär sig lättare genom att använda kroppen.

The study reported has been conducted in care service guided by the Swedish law LSS( LSS- act concerning support and service for the disabled). The aim of this study is to examine the experiences of the personnel who have attended the Taktipro introductory course with special focus on how they describe the possible effects this may have had on their daily attendance to their special needs users.The method used is a qualitative method of enquiry, based on interview questions sent by mail to all the participants of the Taktipro introductory course. The result shows that the personnel have a positive view on skills in progress and that this program has facilitated the contact between personnel and their special needs users. An awareness about the importance of physical contact has also been revealed as well as an awareness of their own impact on situations at work. The result also indicates that the personnel feel that they have been able to improve the well being for the special needs users. .

The purpose with this thesis is to research what function the National Library Catalogue of Sweden (LIBRIS) has as an information resource for Chinese language material. How is LIBRIS used as an information resource seen from the point of view of a users specific language need. This will be exemplified through an empirical survey of three user groups with different prerequisites concerning their knowledge in Chinese. Group A were beginners and had studied Chinese for one year. Group B were advanced students who were studying their third year of Chinese.

The use of insecure networks -such as the Internet- to send and receive information has made the need for preventing unauthorised people reading it yet more important. One of the easiest way to do this is through public key cryptography. However, the problem with this solution is how to tie a specific public key to a certain subject. This is solved by letting a trusted third party issue a certificate that holds, as a minimum, the name of the subject and the subject's public key along with the issuer's digital signature on the information. The rules we make for issuing, revoking and verifying of certificates and the entities that are being used to do so are called PKI - Public Key Infrastructure.

This thesis aims to answer the following questions: What type of vocabulary is used in the humanities? What does this implicate when it comes to indexing in the humanities? How do humanities scholars seek information and what type of information do they need? What consequences does this have when it comes to the development of humanities databases? How is the MLA International Bibliography organized? How does its indexing system ? CIFT ? work? How does the MLA International Bibliography correspond with the needs of the humanities scholar? The study shows that the type of vocabulary used in the humanities differs significantly from that used in the sciences. Therefore, information retrieval is often said to be problematic in the humanities when compared to the sciences. This is, however, not completely true. If consideration is taken to the different type of vocabulary used in the humanities, subject access proves to be more straightforward than has been generally recognized.
