This Masters thesis concerns computer games in Swedish public libraries. We have investigated the opinions of public librarians concerning what they think about computer games, and to what extent they believe it should be a part of the public Library. The method we have chosen is qualitative interviews. The theory we have used is a pedagogical literature strategy, which we have reformulated so that it fits our investigation. The results show that the interviewed public librarians think that the Library should offer computer games for children and youths to use at the Library, and that they should offer computer games for lending, to all the Library users.

In this study my aim has been to discover what connections can be made between the way of creating a Library building and the general values concerning the Library activities and the Library users. What kind of ideology could possibly be reflected in a Library room? My study includes two different parts. First of all there is a theoretical section based upon literature relevant for the subject. Here I try to focus on the LibraryÕs role in society as a public room.

Themobile Library also functions as a meeting place in the localcommunity and creates a link between urban and rural areas..

The purpose of this bachelor?s thesis is to evaluate how the marketing campaign ?Låna dig rik? has been received by the residents of Kalmar. A series of questions are asked: was the campaign noticed by the residents of Kalmar? Through which marketing channels has it been noticed? Is the residents? opinion of the Library in line with the marketing message? Is the campaign moving in the desired direction?The study was done through a questionnaire that was handed out to a number of people in Kalmar. The residents were asked to answer if they had noticed the campaign, where they had noticed it and what their opinion of the Library was.

This Bachelor ?s thesis is about the conversations and meetings that take place in the mobile Library. The research questions will try to answer: What do the staff talk about with each other, what conversations do the staff engage in with their users and what do the users talk about amongst themselves? The thesis main question is trying to answer of what is characteristic for the mobile Library ?s conversations and meetings. Is the mobile Library as a meetingplace any different in comparison with the city Library? Focus lies on the eveningtours of the mobile Library and excludes those tours that service schools and learning-centers.

The aim of this Bachelor´s thesis is to investigate how Library statistics, performance measurement and indicators represent the modern public Library activity. During the last decades the public Library has gone through a lot of changes. Information overall has increased and new technology has been introduced into the Library. This new development has had effects on the Library users. The statistics reported to the Statens kulturråd (National Arts Council) has not changed in the same way.

The purpose of this thesis is to investigate how structural changes are depicted as well as formally brought about in the documents of rule and regulation of Uppsala University and Uppsala University Library the years 1999?2013. Beside the documents of rule and regulation, also documents that is commenting on (or in other ways relates to) these are investigated. The study is based both in organizational theory and modern rhetorical theory. The results show that the University to a certain extent gained an increased possibility to micromanage the Library?s working routines during the time span covered and the study traces the consequences this had on the Library organization and reactions it evoked among the leaders and representatives of the Library staffThis raised a debate between representatives from the University Library and its mother organization, the University, regarding at which level in the whole organization decisions regarding the Library?s forms of funding and everyday praxis.

The purpose of this thesis is to get knowledge about how it is to work as a librarian at Gothenburg city Library during a rebuilding process and during the time when they have worked in a temporary Library so called niche Library. Which part did they have in the renovation project and in the niche Library? The aim is also to find out how the librarians have experienced their time in the niche Library and if it has affected their profession and identity.The method that is used to answer questions of the study is semi-structured interviews with four public librarians. Through comparing previous research in building and rebuilding process I have analyzed the four public librarian?s part in the renovating process and the temporary Library.

The aim of this bachelor?s thesis is to investigate how the activities of the public Library are portrayed by the Swedish press. It poses the following questions: What kinds of public Library activities are portrayed in the Swedish press? What image does this depiction purvey to the general public about the societal role of public libraries?A model of four Library spaces developed by Skot-Hansen, Hvenegaard Rasmussen, and Jochumsen is used as the theoretical framework for this study. Qualitative content analysis is applied to 173 Swedish newspaper articles that describe public Library activities.The analysis reveals that articles about many kinds of public Library activities get published in the Swedish press, but that some activities occur more frequently than others.

The aim of this study is to look at the identity of the public Library, and to examine one way to make the identity of a specific Library strong. PUNKTmedis is a newly opened Library in Stockholm, aimed solely at people between 13-19. The question to be answered was: How can it affect the image of the public Librarys identity when you aim the activity towards a specific user group? To answer this question, the qualitative method of case-study was used. Five interviews were carried out, with representatives from three different groups: users, politicians and librarians.

The aim of this MA thesis is to examine how users regard and receive the services offered by a specific public Library. We also examine what the conception of service means to the users and how they perceive this service being offered by the Library. We look upon if and to what extent the service conception depends on contact with the Library staff. The methods used are qualitative interviews and analyses of documents directing the Library activities. The public Library we have examined in this respect is the public Library of Västerås.

The aim of this Masters thesis is to examine public Library and information technology IT discourses to see which relationships are established between them in four Library journals. This is done in two steps, where first discourses are defined followed by an analysis of the relationships established between the public Library and IT in each discourse. The questions from which the analysis emanates are as follows: What discourses exist around the public Library and IT in the Library journals? What conceptions of the tasks of the public Library are constructed in the discourses? What conceptions of the tasks of IT are constructed in the discourses? What conceptions of the relationships between the public Library and IT are constructed in the discourses? The theoretical and methodological starting-points are found in Ernesto Laclaus and Chantal Mouffes discourse theory. 37 articles from four Library journals Biblioteksbladet, Bibliotek i Samhälle, DIK-forum and Ikoner - are analysed through a model in five phases.

In the last few years there has been an ongoing debate concerning the methods of assessing the quality of public libraries and their services. This study investigates the opinions and needs of the users at four different public libraries in Malm : the local libraries in Bellevueg rden, Limhamn, and Kirseberg, and the main Library in central Malm . The purpose was to find out whether different user groups display different patterns in their Library use and, in addition, to identify what Library services they prefer. The data were collected through interviews with users and librarians, and by means of a user survey ccarried out at the four libraries. The results indicate that certain differences in the usage patterns do exist between the main Library and the local libraries.

The aim of this Master?s thesis is to investigate the importance of a school Library for youths, age 14-16, from their perspective. We intend to study how they use and experience the school Library both for educational- and leisure related purposes. We also intend to inquire their possibility to influence their school Library. The literature that has been used consists of material from research concerning youth culture and school Library.

The purpose of this master?s thesis is to examine whether the role of a public Library in a rural community is different from that of a town Library. To answer this, a case studie of two public libraries has been made. Interviews, collection of documents and observations were carried out on location in one public Library located in a rural area, and one public Library, situated in a town. A modified version of an analysis model, originally developed by Andersson and Skot-Hansen, was used to analyse the data.
