Söka, sovra, läsa, lära : om ett gymnasiebibliotek som pedagogiskt hjälpmedel

This is a thesis about an upper secondary  school Library and its role as a pedagogkal resour­ce. My purpose has been to find out about the views and experiences of the staff at the school Library and twelve teachers at the upper secondary school  conceming the school Library as a pedagogical resource. Fourteen  qualitative interviews have been accomplished, twelve  with teachers and the rest with the staff of the school Library. All the interviewees seem to think that their school Library has an important function as a pedagogical resource and both the librarian and the teachers have given me some examples of occasions when the Library has been used as a pedagogkal resource. This school Library is mostly used as a complement to other pedagogical resources but for some longer projects with an investigative character it could sometimes be used as the main source according to the answers in these fourteen  interviews..

Dataspel, en naturlig del av folkbibliotek? ? En fallstudie på Helsingborgs stadsbibliotek

This paper aims to investigate how Helsingborg?s city Library?s visi-tors feel about computer games being available for lending and in which way computer gamers see Helsingborg?s city Library as a resource. This was examined first with a study of 100 of the Library?s visitors and then with five interviews with computer gamers and an interview with the librarian responsible for purchasing games.The study showed that most visitors were neutral to having games at the Library and of the ones that were not neutral many more were positive than negative. Of the five gamers who were inter-viewed, there were several who had borrowed games in the past.

The focus of this two year's master thesis is on participation of children at the TioTretton Library, a Library strictly for 10-13 year olds. No adults, except the Library staff are allowed in this Library. To build on this aim the objectives of this thesis is centred on the questions:How does the Library staff view their specific Library's mission? What are the conditions for children's participation at TioTretton Library? Based on the relevant theory of participation, how participatory are the children in the Library's activities? The purpose of this master thesis is to investigate what the users/visitors do at the Filipstads Bergslags Library when they are there. The questions we asked were "What do the visitors do when they are at the Library?" and "How do the visitors give priority to the Librarys services?" From these two questions we asked a third "How do the visitors view the Library and its functions and what function do they see as the most important to them?" The method we used was a user study and we did this at the request of the management at the Library. A questionnaire was constructed and handed out in a pilot study. We made some changes in the questionnaire before we started to hand it out at the Library.

This master's thesis asks two main questions concerning the history of the City and UniversityLibrary of Gothenburg: what was the prevailing view of the Library and its role? Whateconomic support did the Library receive and from whom?By critically examining extensive source material mainly from the Library archives and cityand state records, these conclusions are drawn: the City and University Library was regardedas a purely scientific Library by all involved except the state as early as the 1920s. The state didnot express this view until 1946. The support came almost exclusively from the city ofGothenburg, the state not extending support on a larger scale until 1946 and then onlysporadically. The widely-held view of the Library as a scientific one was ignored by the statein its repeated refusals to grant the Library support both before and after 1946.

The purpose of this study was to find out what different groups of visitors do when they are at Borås City Library. Three issues were formulated from the purpose and they were: What do users do when they visit the City Library in Borås? What occupations do those who visit the Library have? What similarities and differences are there in the use of the Library depending on the visitors? occupations? To answer these questions a questionnaire was handed out among the visitors at Borås City Library. This Master's thesis concerns the public Library as a public meeting place. Our aim has been to find out why and how the Library as a social meeting place has been discussed within the Swedish Library community and if there has been a constant core in the discussions from the mid 70's and up to the present day. In order to do this we apply a place and space-perspective. The result of the study is that the core of the said discussions concerning the Library as a meeting place is to create belongingness. This is the reason why the Library community has an interest in the public Library's function as a meeting place with the idea that people, by using the public Library in that aspect, may experience a feeling of belonging to the society.

The purpose of this master's thesis is to describe and analyse the origin and development of the Library of Workers´ Educational Association in the community of Oskarström. This Library is special because the organisation run it much longer than usual, until 1977, and to find an answer to why, we have the following questions: Why does the Library of Workers´ Educational Association start their activity in Oskarström, and how does it develop, in relation to premises, librarians, financing, the stock of books and the numbers of books out on loan? What is the reason that the Library in Oskarström is municipalized as late as 1977? The methods we use are hermeneutics and evaluation of the sources. The Library is founded in 1914 and become important for the workers. Important sources of income are the subventions given by the state, municipality and other associations.

When the Tranemo Library moved to new localities in 1991 there were also some changes made to make the Library more user-friendly. The purpose of this essay is to see how a useroriented change can be done and how it has been perceived by members of the Library staff and the Library users.This is done by the following means:l) interviews with members of the Library staff,2) a questionnaire to the users in Tranemo,3) a comparative questionnaire to users of the libraries in Skara and Lerum.The comparison was concentrated on how the Library presents its material. The result of this comparison shows that even though there is a difference among the three libraries, the difference is small and it is impossible to say for sure that it has anything to do with the changes that have been done. The interviews and questionnaire in Tranemo give a positive picture of that Library..

The aim of this two-year masters thesis is to look for the Swedish public Library´s core business, using theories about competence. The approach is qualitative. It is done by studying the Unesco Public Library Manifesto, the Swedish Library legislation, the education in Library and information science, two important Swedish Library related journals and by asking public librarians about their work and point of view regarding competence.The research shows mainly two sides of the core competence of public librarians: information technology competence and literature knowledge. The conclusion is that the two meet in the idea of mass education, which could therefore be called the Swedish public Library´s core business..

The main object of this master thesis is to examine whether domain-analysis could be used toorganize the collections in a Library serving interdisciplinary studies, and in that case - howthat could be done. The subject of this master thesis is the school Library and how we find its potential unutilized. We look at this problem in connection to the democratic assignment that the Swedish school has. The purpose is to elucidate what the democratic assignment consists of and to establish the role that the school Library ought to have in this assignment. To describe the democratic assignment we examine and interpret the documents that regulate school and Library activities today, including UNESCO/IFLA School Library Manifesto and United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. We use critical ideology analysis because we consider democracy to be a sort of ideology and have a critical view of how the school Library is used or rather not used in school.
