To answer these questions, we have performed four qualitative interviews with Librarians in three Swedish municipalities. We have also performed a smaller document study to give us an overview of the used guidelines at the selected libraries. The results of our survey have been analyzed on the basis of our revised version of Sanna Talja?s model The Interpretative Repertoires of the Music Library.
Då och nu på biblioteket : Bibliotekariers förändrade yrkesroll
In this Bachelor thesis, we examine how the work of the librarian has changed over the past three decades. The research questions focus on the changes in Librarians´ roles and working tasks regarding factors like technique, meetings between Librarians and visitors and also how to give service to visitors. We have conducted interviews with Librarians at university libraries as well as public libraries. In all, there were four interviews. We have also compared the two types of libraries. We have looked closely at these factors: the tasks of the Librarians, the skills needed, how the library has been used as a democratic arena, and what kinds of meetings there are among Librarians and users of the library. From these themes we have created interview questions, and our analysis is structured according to the themes. We have worked from a theory on different kinds of identities within the profession.
Gymnasiebibliotekariens yrkesroll En fenomenografisk undersökning.
Although school Librarians have an important role to play in high schools helping teachers and students during their education, Swedish school Librarians are often considered to end up left out by teachers and head principals due to school Librarians vague and unclear professional role in the school. The aim of this thesis is to attempt to study school Librarians own apprehensions of their particular professional role in a high school context, and how their professional role is believed to be apprehended by teachers and head principals. The results are based on interviews made with eight school Librarians working in different high school libraries in Gothenburg during April 2002. By using phenomenographic method various existing apprehensions of the specific phenomena that the professional role of the school librarian constitutes of are made clear. The aim of the method is not to study what the profession constitutes of, but rather how it is apprehended by the school Librarians themselves.
Den nöjda och osynliga bibliotekarien : Myt och verklighet - Vad är trivsel för bibliotekarier?
The aim of this thesis is to explore the job satisfaction of Librarians and try to nuance stereotypes, which the public has and which still exist in massmedia concerning Librarians and their work. The study is qualitative and based mainly on semistructured interviews with ten libraries born between 1937s and 1973s of which eight are women and two men. Furthermore, I have divided them into two groups according to age in order to see if there are differencies between the older and the younger concerning job satisfaction. In addition, I have used participant observation to some extent. My assumption is that job satisfaction is effected both by individual factors and environmental factors at work.
Etik på bibliotek : en kvalitativ studie av ett antal folkbibliotekaries yrkesetiska tankar och erfarenheter
The theme of this thesis is the professional ethics of public Librarians. Qualitative interviews have been conducted with fourteen public Librarians, with the aim to investigate their thoughts·and opinions concerning professional ethics and their experiences of ethical dilemmas in professional situations. The result shows that the majority of the Librarians often discuss problems concerning what's right or wrong but that the discussions are conducted on the basis of practical situations and not in terms of professional ethics. The majority have vague ideas of how the term professional ethics should be applied on the work of public Librarians, though all the interviewees consider the professional ethical discussion to be important. We examine the Librarians opinions and experiences of ethical dilemmas conceming four subject areas: the principle of the librarian as a neutral and nonrestricting information intermediary, the principle of equal treatment of all the library visitors, difficulties. concerning media selection and the problems based upon the Librarians flexibility towards the intemal rules of the library. The Librarians experienced the behaviour towards the visitors as the greatest problem.

The aim of this study is to investigate Librarians' conceptions of the pedagogical role, as it is expressed in their didactic interaction with the users. The research questions focus on Librarians' experiences of teaching information seeking and use and their activities in this respect.
