The main purpose of this thesis is to investigate hospital Librarians understanding of their professional role in working with children. Two different aspects of the professional role were focused on; professional knowledge and ethics. The following research questions were posed: - How do hospital Librarians experience their professional role in working with children and young people? - What is regarded as professional knowledge content for hospital Librarians in working with children and young people? - How do hospital Librarians view ethical aspects in working with children and young people? The issues have been addressed through qualitative interviews with seven hospital Librarians. We have used phenomenography which is both a set of theoretical assumptions and a methodology.
The aim of this Masters thesis is to examine Librarians attitudes and values when it comes to the question if a new media, video games, should be introduced at the library or not. Video games are here seen as media primarily for youths. In our study we also wanted to study the discussions of quality and purchase, when computer games were introduced at the library. In order to answer our questions we conducted nine interviews with Librarians working with children and youths, in eight libraries. By analysing their statements, using Maj Klassons theory where she defines the Librarians role in three different strategies, we could demonstrate how the Librarians reason when it comes to video and computer games, youths, quality and purchase.

Six Librarians at public libraries in Göteborg where interviewed. The interviews dealt with their work with fiction literature, their experiences of subject headings as a fiction retrieval tool, and with their contacts with patrons.
The aim of this Master thesis is, from a sociocultural perspective, to investigate the views the teaching Librarians at Södertörn University Library (SHB) have on learning, information literacy, and their own pedagogical role, and how their views affect user education and their ideas about the future of user education. The research questions used were: How do the teaching Librarians view learning? How is this view reflected in their work with user education? How do the teaching Librarians envisage user education in the future, and how do they work to reach that goal?Five semi-structured interviews were conducted with the teaching Librarians at SHB. The interviews were then analysed using qualitative content analysis. The results of the study show that the teaching Librarians at SHB share a sociocultural view on learning, and take a communicative oriented approach to user education. They believe that communication and interaction support learning, and in the classroom they stimulate discussions both between librarian and student, and between the students themselves. In the future, they hope for improved collaboration between Librarians and academic staff, and that user education will become a natural element of the curriculum..

Referensintervjuer på folkbibliotek: En intervju- och litteraturstudie
This thesis examines the subject of reference interviews and the ways Librarians form an opinion of users information needs. Using literature and interviews with three Librarians I look at the questions below: - Why and when are reference interviews needed? - What significance do they have? - What ideas exist about the performance of reference interviews? - Are there any differences in Librarians views of the questions above compared to views in the literature? Results from literature studies and interviews show that reference interviews can be important when Librarians try to find out more about users information needs. However its neither necessary nor possible to analyse all reference questions. Librarians therefore need to determine if a reference interview is needed or not.
Du ser inte ut som en bibliotekarie! ? Kläder och identitet i bibliotekarieyrket
The aim of this study is to examine whether the image of the stereotype librarian has created conflict in young Librarians´ personal identity and/or professional identity and if this has shown in their choice of clothes? Our purpose was to find out, with the help of their choice of clothes, the young Librarians view of themselves as individuals and professional Librarians. We have searched for the answers to the following questions: - Do young Librarians experience that clothing at their workplace has any significance and if so, what do they want to signal with their clothing? - Do they experience that clothing and appearance has any impact on their personal and professional identity? - How do they relate, by their choice of clothes, to the stereotype images of the librarian? We have performed qualitative interviews with eleven young female Librarians. As a theoretical framework we have used ideas and concepts from different areas of research; semiotics, social psychology, business administration and ethnology.
The point of departure for this thesis was an article written by Christer Hermansson (2008). He thinks that Librarians, following the development of Library 2.0 and the change of public libraries, have strayed away from what he believes should be the focus of the library: Literature. The aim of this thesis is to study how Librarians in six Swedish libraries perceive their occupational roles. How does the increased user control, which is seen as part of Library 2.0, affect the tasks of libraries and Librarians? The material used in this study was acquired using a qualitative interview technique in which six Librarians working in public libraries with experience of IT, mediation and purchase of literature partook.
This is an investigation into the ways in which a group of Librarians experience and make use of the intranet in their vocational role. The theoretical frame of reference consists of a model of how professionals seek information, which is based on a role-theory. As a method, I have applied a qualitative case-study. Using semi-structured qualitative interviews I have interviewed five Librarians and the webmaster responsible for the intranet in their library. I have investigated how elements such as the age and vocational role of the Librarians affect their use of the intranet.
Datorspel till nytta eller nöje? En intervjuundersökning utifrån folkbibliotekariers perspektiv
This Masters thesis concerns computer games in Swedish public libraries. We have investigated the opinions of public Librarians concerning what they think about computer games, and to what extent they believe it should be a part of the public library. The method we have chosen is qualitative interviews. The theory we have used is a pedagogical literature strategy, which we have reformulated so that it fits our investigation. The results show that the interviewed public Librarians think that the library should offer computer games for children and youths to use at the library, and that they should offer computer games for lending, to all the library users.
