This thesis describes possibilities for Metso Paper to lower their costs of spray pipes for their pulp wash press TRPE, with maintained good functionality and quality.Information that can be used by competitors has been censored in this version of the essay.To find solutions, alternative suppliers have been contacted and asked to quote. There has also been a new spray pipe designed. The manufacturing costs of the new design have been calculated.The thesis also contains a concept generation of an alternative product to the spray pipes in installations where a high pressure washer is used.To be able to ask other manufacturers of spray pipes to quote, a demand specification based on the currently used spray pipe was made. This was then sent to two alternative suppliers.An investigation of earlier used spray pipes, and the currently used, shows that the nozzles are a big part of the total costs of the spray pipes. To attempt to reduce the nozzles high cost an concept generation was made to find the best solution for a new design.There was a request that it should be possible to change the internal brushes in the spray pipe without cutting and welding.

I takt med att arbetet på den svenska arbetsmarknaden genomgått en rad förändringar det senaste århundradet har bland annat lågkvalificerade arbeten försvunnit till förmån för mer kvalificerade. Några typiska kännetecken för dagens arbetsmarknad är en högre grad av flexibilitet, tidsbegränsade anställningar och ett allt mer gränslöst arbete. Ett av flera nya managementkoncept som vuxit fram är Lean management, vilket handlar om att effektivisera genom att eliminera icke värdeskapande tid och arbeta utifrån kundens efterfrågan. Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka om det finns skillnader i hur individer i två olika yrkesgrupper inom en och samma organisation, som arbetar utifrån Lean management, beskriver flexibilitet och bundenhet samt hur de förhåller sig till gränsdragningen mellan arbete och privatliv. Den tidigare forskningen på området visar att flexibiliteten upplevs bero på vilken kontext man befinner sig i.

Syfte - Syftet med studien är att få en djupare insikt i sambandet mellan ledarskap och de faktorer som bidrar till ökat engagemang hos medarbetarna i arbetet med ständiga förbättringar. Studien riktar sig mot ett mellanstort industriföretag som implementerat lean production.Design/ metod - I vår undersökning valde vi att göra en kvalitativ fallstudie. Data samlades in i ett svenskt industriföretag. Totalt har 7 intervjuer genomförts.Undersökningsresultat - Resultatet vi kom fram till är att medarbetarna är i låg utsträckning delaktiga i förbättringsarbetet. Tidigare forskning visar att medarbetare som är delaktiga i beslut är också mer engagerade i arbetet.Metodkritik ? Resultatet speglar enbart subjektiva bedömningar och de studerade variablerna bygger på respondenternas uppfattningar.

Bakgrund och Problemdiskussion Lean-konceptets applicerbarhet inom servicesektorn har på senare år uppmärksammats allt mer. Lean som har sin grund i den japanska bilindustrin brukas idag över hela världen, främst inom tillverkningsbranschen. Utgångspunkten för vår problemdiskussion är en artikel skriven av Kennedy och Widener (hädanefter K & W) där författarna först byggt upp ett teoretiskt ramverk för hur ekonomistyrningen kan se ut enligt de lean-principer som finns. Orsakssambanden mellan ramverkets komponenter har man fått fram genom en empirisk studie på ett tillverkningsföretag. I slutet av artikeln blickar författarna framåt och hoppas att andra forskare gör undersökningar likt deras för att se om de orsakssamband de hittat även är applicerbara på andra företag.

En upprörd patient sitter i väntrummet på en akutmottagning. Patienten har väntat på vård i flera timmar och äntligen kommer en sjuksköterska in. Patienten reser sig upp och bereder sig på att följa med. Tyvärr utropar sjuksköterskan någon annans namn och den väntande patienten frågar undrande: ?Ursäkta, när är det min tur?? Problem:Vi anser att det finns problem i arbetsprocessen på akutmottagningen som orsakar att patienten får vänta onödigt länge.

It is, therefore important to choose suppliers that are able to compete with the market demands.The market demands in the textile industry have lead to shorter product life cycles, which have caused manufacturers to deliver flexibility with high technology to compete successfully on the global market. To achieve the market requirements the underlying factor is to be aware and optimally use and control time. New technology can have a major influence in the production development, if the company choose to take benefit of the advantages, by optimal allocation of the internal resources the productivity and efficiency will increase, to accomplish a competitive advantage. One way to achieve this is by investing in a Unit Production System.In our thesis we have questioned what the main driving forces for an apparel manufacturing company is when it chooses to invest in new technology.

This thesis serves to examine how manufacturing SMEs consider outsourcing. Furthermore, we aim to identify the main characteristics and patterns for these types of companies that can explain their rationale in such a decision. The chosen method for this thesis is abduction and selected research approach is multiple case studies. Seven case studies have been conducted at EAB AB, Esbe AB, Hörle Automatic AB, Pelly Industri AB, SGV Industrier AB, Swede-Wheel AB and Wulkan AB. Our findings have illustrated that although traditional outsourcing theory provides a good platform for explaining the rationale behind outsourcing decisions in SMEs, we have identified additional considerations that SMEs, operating as 2, 3 or 4-tier suppliers towards OEM-corporations, make.

 The purpose with this thesis was to develop a designguideline which will simplify the development of new products that will be laser welded. The need for this thesis has come forward from the quality problems that Volvo Construction Equipment, Components Division is having with their laser welding manufacturing unit. The reason for the problems emerges from the bad communication between the development unit and the manufacturing unit within the company when the products produced today was developed. This resulted in products that were hard to and in some cases almost impossible to weld. To avoid these problems from occurring again it was needed to gather the experiences within this area and compile it and present in a brief a pedagogical manner. The information for the groundwork of our results has been gathered by interviews of several key persons in Volvo Construction Equipment, Components Division.

This examination work is performed at the institution of industrial economy and production at Jonkoping technical university, for JELD-WEN Door Solutions plant in Forserum.Today the focus in the company is on to reduce their inventories binding of capitals as well as inventory of products and that includes to get a good control of the supply and handling of material which is of great importance.JELD-WEN Door Solutions is one of the worlds leading producers of windows and doors and the head-office is located in Oregon, USA.A great number of wooden doors are manufactured by the company in varying of constructions, classifications and performance.The production of the plant in Forserum has a project- and customer focus manufacturing where only internal doors are produced. The overall market they are concentrated on is to different institution such as schools, hospitals etc.The purpose of this work is to investigate possibilities to improvement of material- and production control at JELD-WEN. The report will handle the master production schedule to and from the production divisions within manufacturing industry. Focus will be on the way for information- and material flows from arrival, transport within the company and further on to customers.Further a map of the flow was performed which gave a clearer picture of the connection between the flow of information- and material for the manufacturing process. On the basis of the mapping of the flow, the group discovered that the flow of material had some improvement potential.

I dagens samhälle ställs hårda krav på resultatförbättringar i företag och industrier. Det är vanligt att företag tar hjälp av någon eller några av de ledningsverktyg som finns utvecklade i just detta syfte, Lean Production är ett av dessa verktyg. Syftet med denna rapport är att ge en historisk bakgrund till Lean Production och att undersöka vilka tillvägagångssätt tre företag har valt för att implementera Lean i sin verksamhet. Vidare skall författarna undersöka om det finns några likheter mellan dessa tillvägagångssätt och Toyotas produktionssystem (TPS).Utvecklingen till det som idag benämns som Lean började redan 1911 då Fredrick Winslow Taylor presenterade sin artikel ?Principles of Scientific Management?.

Increased competition in the IT industry has sparked a need for developing faster innovation processes with more predictable output. One of the biggest issues when it comes to achieving a faster flow through the innovation process lies in managing its high degree of variation. Proposing a solution to this problem, Lean Software Development (LSD), was developed to provide a framework for how IT companies should organize its software development process to achieve increased speed and quality. This study examines to which extent LSD, as a set of values, principles, methods and tools, can be used to improve flow efficiency in the innovation process. A case study of a multinational IT company was made by conducting ten semi-structured interviews with current employees.

Bakgrunden till detta examensarbete är byggföretagens utmaningar med att bedriva byggprojekt där nya och unika objekt skall konstrueras, med många nya förutsättningar och allt som oftast även en ny sammansättning av personalstyrkan. Ett gemensamt behov för dessa byggprojekt är att effektivt kunna hantera en mängd av olika och nya variationer.Oden anläggningsentreprenad AB presenterade ett problem gällande oönskade variationer av produktionstider för betongmonoliter som innefattar mycket repetitiva arbetsmoment. Examensarbetets syfte blev att besvara följande frågor:Vilka är faktorerna som påverkar variationer i produktionstiden vid bygget av betongmonoliter?Vilka är lösningarna till att reducera faktorerna som negativt påverkar produktionstiden?Hur ska de nya lösningarna implementeras?I examensarbetet har teorier kring lean production, lean construction, organisationsförändring och betongkonstruktioner undersökts. Det empiriska materialet har hämtats genom att författaren deltagit i produktionen och fört en fältdagbok över dagliga problem som produktionspersonal påtalat.

En omfattande datorisering inom företagsvärlden har skapat ett beroende av informationssystem (IS) som kan hantera och lagra information efter verksamhetens behov. Genom att investera i nya och mer effektiva IS kan verksamheter skaffa sig verktyg där de effektivt kan prioritera och allokera de resurser som finns tillgängliga. Detta gör det möjligt att omdefiniera arbetsprocesser och sysselsättningsrutiner och därmed spara arbetskraft genom att automatisera och eliminera en del uppgifter. Dock finns det en del faktorer som påverkar implementeringen av IS, exempelvis brist på resurser, teknik och kompetens. Dessa faktorer gör det många gånger mer problematiskt att utveckla IS i utvecklingsländer.Syftet med studien är att undersöka hur en organisation med begränsade resurser, kan effektiviseras genom att använda sig utav Lean IT.
