Incorporating pupils with Swedish as a second language A study of language development approaches and integration in school

Studiens syfte är att undersöka hur pedagoger arbetar språkutvecklande med nyanlända ele-ver, samt att uppmärksamma hur skolledning och pedagoger arbetar för att dessa elever ska känna gemenskap med den övriga skolan. Studiens frågeställningar är: Hur arbetar pedago-gerna språkutvecklande med nyanlända elever, vilka metoder och material används? Vilka insatser görs av pedagogerna och skolledningen för att integrera nyanlända elever i den svenska skolan? För att besvara studiens frågeställningar har vi analyserat den insamlade em-pirin med utgångspunkt i tidigare relevant forskning. Tidigare forskning tyder bl.a. på trygg-het, modersmål och sociala faktorers betydelse för språkinlärningen.

Databaser i molnet : En prestanda utvärdering

AbstractAs a developer of database-driven applications you will be faced with difficult choices, when it comes to choosing database, server and programming language. For the result to be satisfactory it requires the different techniques to interact well with each other and also fulfill performance expectations. This is even more important when the application is deployed to the cloud and the response time plays a major role.This paper evaluates different databases and their performance. To test the databases there was an application made in the server script language PHP or Hypertext Preprocessor and it was deployed to Windows Azure cloud platform. The test applications task is to call and load databases by controlled requests which creates, reads, updates and deletes data in an relatively large extent.The results shows that locale databases or databases in the same data center as the server generates the fastest response.

Samsjuklighet mellan depressiva symtom och undergrupper av social ångest i relation till livstillfredsställelse hos unga vuxna: En tvärsnittsstudie

Uppsatsens övergripande syfte var att undersöka profiler av samsjuklighet mellan depressiva symtom och olika undergrupper av social ångest hos unga vuxna (20-24 år) samt dess samband med livstillfredsställelse och upplevd social funktionsnedsättning inom yrkesliv/studier respektive sociala aktiviteter. Data har inhämtats via självskattningsformulär. Resultaten analyserades genom en klusteranalys. Två profiler med samsjuklighet mellan undergrupper av social ångest och depressiva symtom framkom. Denna samsjuklighet verkar vara relaterad till både en lägre grad av upplevd livstillfredsställelse samt till funktionsnedsättning inom två domäner, yrkesliv/studier och sociala aktiviteter..

Flerspråkiga elevers möjligheter att utveckla sitt svenska språk och modersmål i skolan - Bilingual pupils possibilities to develop their Swedish language and native language in school.

Syftet med mitt arbete var att undersöka och beskriva vilka uppfattningar pedagoger har om flerspråkiga elevers möjligheter att utveckla sitt svenska språk och sitt modersmål i skolan. Jag har gjort kvalitativa intervjuver med fem pedagoger. Tre grundskollärare, en specialpedagog och en modersmålslärare på en mångkulturell skola årskurs 0-6. Arbetet ger en översikt av tidigare forskning om andraspråksundervisning och modersmålsundervisning. Mitt arbete visar att många olika faktorer runt eleverna bidrar till deras möjligheter att utveckla sitt svenska språk och modersmål.

Produktion och perception av ordaccenter hos femåriga östgötska barn med typisk språkutveckling

The Swedish language contains contrasts of tonal word accents, realized by change in the F0 contour. Contrasts of word accents require at least two syllables with stress on the first syllable of the word or a stressed syllable followed by a non-stressed.The purpose of the present study was to examine how five-year-old children living in Östergötland with typical language development produce and discriminate tonal word accents. In addition, it was investigated how these abilities affect each other and comparisons were made to a similar study on children living in Skåne.For elicitation of tonal word accents a set of pictures with contrastive tonal word accents was used. The children were recorded and their answers were evaluated by visual classification of their F0-curves. In a perceptual analysis of the children?s productions, 11 linguistically naive listeners evaluated 44 randomized words from the recordings.

This study is focusing on students at compulsory level and their performance in national exam tests when the students first language is taken into account. Students in Swedish schools with non-Swedish speaking parents commonly follow language classes for limited Swedish proficient students. How does this affect their results when tested in other subjects as physics,biology and chemistry? A general claim is that national tests can provide data for balancedand fair grades. This view is challenged in this paper, through Principal Component Analysisof test results that shows a difference between schools when the schools social position and share of limited Swedish proficient students are measured.

Abakus-något att räkna med? : En studie av räkneramen abakus användning bland elever med grav synskada i årskurs 1-6

Syftet med studien är att undersöka lärarstudenters matematiklärarutveckling under VFU. Studenternas egen uppfattning om vilka faktorer som är avgörande för deras utveckling står i fokus. Metoden för studien är kvalitativa intervjuer. Sådana genomfördes med 4 lärarstudentgrupper. Den teoretiska delen av studien lyfter fram lärares socialisation in i yrket och lärares kunskap.

Fyra elevers upplevelser kring grupparbeten

The purpose of this study is to investigate four students in grades six by interviewing them. It will find out how they personally perceive their own learning in group work and why they work in groups. In my investigation, I will rely on these two questions:How do my subjects reflect on their own learning during group work?Why do my subjects think that they work in groups?For my study, I selected four students from the same school, two girls and two boys, who are 11 to 12 years old. The interviews were individual because I wanted to get a deeper view of how students perceive their own learning in groups and why they are working with a group of other students.

AbstractIt is unclear how L2 students acquire vocabulary ? how is it taught ? or wheather it can even be taught. In an SSL (Swedish as second language) program for young adults the ambition has been to integrate the L2 students? into the national high school (gymnasium) courses as quickly as possible, in order to meet the students? demands for subject education and to challenge them on an appropriate knowledge level. Teachers noticed quite early that the course ? integrated L2 students seemed to have a deeper understanding of words and an easier flow in their speech.

The focus was to study how this seniorhousing affected the well-being of the residents and their experience of this accommodation.The study was based on a qualitative method with semi-structured interviews. Interviews wereconducted with four residents who have lived in the senior housing for deaf and deafblindpeople since it opened in spring 2013.

Vad är viktigt? : Läroboken i biologi som förmedlare av kunskapsideal kring innehåll och mening

The aim for this paper has been to examine three textbooks designed for science education in upper secondary school in order to determine whether they convey any specific attitudes regarding what is considered to be ideal knowledge within the field of biology. The main focus has been to investigate if different types of design strategies have been used to emphasize certain values or attitudes and if this proves to be the case, how is this achieved specifically?                      For this purpose I have conducted several different qualitative linguistic analyses of the textbooks. The theoretical framework for the analyses lies within the main field of critical linguistics and more specifically in the context of systemic functional linguistics. The two main language models I have chosen to use for my investigations are functional grammar and multimodal text analysis.                      My results imply amongst other things that by conducting an overall assessment of the headlines in the textbooks a fair assessment can be made of which overall attitudes the books convey.

The main purpose of this C-essay is to answer the question: What have been the consequences and effects of the merit point system on language studies and the parties concerned (teachers, students and principals) during the school year of 2010/11?The merit point system is the result of a political decision and was implicated for the first time in the Swedish upper secondary school during the school year 2010/2011. Being a completely new phenomenon it is of great interest and importance to study its effects.The study in this essay also aims to verify, falsify or nullify two hypotheses very often referred to in the political discussions regarding the merit point system:The merit point system will replace affection and interest as main reasons for language studies in upper secondary school and cause a rectification amongst the students choices of additional courses.The merit point system will have a segregating effect upon society and make it harder for people to rise in society through education in the future.A verification of these hypotheses would imply the appearance of an increased rectification amongst students as well as an orientation towards an in the future more segregated society.The empiric material has been collected and examined with qualitative as well as quantitative methods (questionnaires and interviews) and belongs epistemologically to the phenomenological and hermeneutical traditions..

Subguppering av patienter med Lindrog Kognitiv Störning och dess betydelse för framtida utveckling av demens

Lindrig kognitiv störning (eng. Mild Cognitive Impairment, MCI) betecknar ett tillstånd av försämrad kognitiv funktion, som inte uppfyller kriterierna för demens. MCI tycks innebära en ökad risk att utveckla Alzheimer och andra demenssjukdomar. Syftet med studien var att förutsättningslöst undersöka antal och typer av subgrupper till MCI som bäst överensstämmer med kognitiva testresultat samt att undersöka utvecklingsförlopp för subgrupperna. En klusteranalys utfördes med testresultat från 287 MCI patienter som utretts på Huddinge sjukhus.
