The overall aim of this thesis is to examine the production and repetitiveness of gender patterns with focus on girls in the swedish tween magazine Kamratposten. This is of importance due to the non existing research on Kamratposten concerning this specific topic. The aim is also to evoke a broader discussion about the relationsship between gender representation and pedagody. The theoretical framework is based on three concepts, namly Yvonne Hirdman?s gender contract, Judith Butler?s performativity and the idea of heteronormativity.

I uppsatsen undersöks verket Proposal av konstnären Allison Katz utifrån campbegreppet och ettperformativitetsteoriskt perspektiv, med syfte att utforska hur verket kan läsas som en kritik avexisterande estetiska kategorier och hierarkier. Analysen av verket utgår främst från CharlesSanders Peirce teckenlära. Resultatet av denna analys tolkas sedan genom ettperformativitetsteoretiskt perspektiv, där campbegreppet förs samman med Margaretha Rossholm-Lagerlöfs estetiskt grundade resonemang om performativitet och Judith Butlers normkritiskaperformativitetsteori. Analysen och tolkningen visar hur Katz i verket Proposal genomför en radförskjutningar av existerande konsthistoriska kategorier och hierarkier, och hur betydelsen av dessainkongruenser är både semantisk och performativ. Dessa två nivåer går inte att skilja från varandra,utan är intrikat sammanvävda i Katz verk där kritiken av hierarkier och kategorier framträder justgenom verkets rumsliga gestaltning och betraktarens sinnliga och kroppsliga upplevelse av det..

The purpose of this essay is to examine formations of gender and class of so called horse girls in a riding school located in Stockholm, Sweden. The essay is based on interviews with six girls in the ages between fifthteen and eighteen. Through the theoretical framework of Judith Butler and Beverley Skeggs, I examine how the girls negotiate the boundaries and probabilities within doing gender in an upper and middleclass associated area. As a result of its female domination, the stable functions as a place where the girls can dislocate themselves from otherwise normative feminine practises. This is possible since the premises of the stable are constructed in the light of the heterosexual matrix, where the girls organise themselves within the heterosexual girl collective.

In 2009 transgendered persons were included in the Swedish law against discrimination. Prior to the inclusion a commission made an investigation of the necessity of such change in the law and how it could be designed. This essay focuses on the discourses regarding gender that appear in the law and the report written by the commission. Using theories by Judith Butler and discourse analysis inspired by Norman Fairclough it identifies two main discourses regarding gender: a two gender discourse and a queer discourse. The two discourses meet in the studied material in an antagonistic way, a conflict that is solved by separating the two and making one part of the law focus on gender and one on transgender.

This essay examines how humor is used in the making of stereotypes in the Kronlöf sister?s video SÅ JÄVLA PK! In addition I give my analysis of how power and resistance is shown in the video. Through Michel Foucault?s conception power and resistance together with Judith Butler?s theories about performativity I?d like to show how the characters you can see in the video, in addition to the humor, also put themselves in a public context. I discuss my material in relation to a number of similar and current events that concern sexism and racism in Sweden.

This essay is about literature instruction in the last three years of Sweden?s compulsory school from one teacher?s and six of his pupils? perspective. The research is analysed from a socio-cultural perspective on learning and literature reception.The empiric material is based on interviews with the teacher and six of his students.The research shows that there is a difference between what the pupils read on their spare time and what they read during Swedish instruction. It also shows that the pupils wants literature full of action where descriptions of people and the setting don?t slow down the reading experience.The teacher is successful in finding literature the pupils appreciate but sees the value of literature on another level ? in the processing of the reading experience.

The aim of this essay is to do a queer reading of the early Swedish pentecostal movement, with a special focus on the women within the movement. The main empirical material is Gustaf Emil Söderholms Den svenska pingstväckelsens historia part I and II, published 1927 and 1928, in addition to this a selection of articles from the Swedish pentecostal magazine Evangelii Härold has been used. The theoretical framework consists of Judith Butler's concepts of heterosexual matrix and performativity, as well as interpellation, and of Adrienne Rich's concept of a lesbian continuum. The analysis shows that the evangelist role, as well as the charismatic practices of the movement, made it possible for women to take the position as leader and teacher of congregations, and thereby take up a male subject position. The role as evangelist also made possible a life outside of the heterosexual norm, within the lesbian continuum..

This essay focuses on men?s construction of feminism and gender and views on equality between the sexes. The purpose of the essay is met through interviews with eight men on their thoughts and constructions of these issues. The answers from the interviewed men were analysed with a radical feminist and gender perspective approach. Att motverka traditionella könsmönster är ett uttalat mål inom förskolan såväl som skolan. I denna uppsats analyserar jag den statliga offentliga utredningen Jämställd förskola, SOU 2006:75. Mitt syfte är att undersöka hur traditionella könsmönster framställs som problem och vilka konsekvenser som kommer från denna framställning. Ett mer övergripande syfte är också att ta reda på vad som händer med så kallad emancipatorisk kunskap när den införlivas i en politisk diskurs. Metoden för undersökningen är en slags diskursanalys som kallas för What's the problem? och som är mig behjälplig för att undersöka just problemrepresentationer.

Vi vet att barn ser mycket på tv och har därför valt att se på fyra barnfilmer för att se hur genus representeras i dessa filmer. Vi utgår ifrån Judith Butler och att genus är något som hela tiden skapas och vårt syfte är att se hur detta skapas i filmerna. Filmerna följer de normer för maskulinitet och feminitet som finns och underhåller dessa. Även om undantag förekommer så är filmerna i stort stereotypa. Den heterosexuella normativiteten är i centrum och den blir i stort sett inte ifrågasatt.

The purpose of this Master?s thesis is to investigate the female reader of science fiction literature, a genre by tradition dominated by men. Through qualitative interviews with seven female science fiction readers, the relation between the reading and the readers? lives, as well as their concepts of the science fiction genre and the community of science fiction readers, was examined. My study is based on LeRoy?s novel Sarah [2000] and the collection of short stories The heart is deceitful above all things [2001], as well as articles written about the construction of Laura Albert?s alter ego JT LeRoy.

Denna uppsats sträcker sig utanför akademin och frågar sig hur en publik kan uppfatta föreställningen La dolce vita. Jag menar att dragshowgruppen After Dark har potential att destabilisera synen på kön, genus och sexualitet som fasta binära kategorier, och undersöker detta i en receptionsstudie. I relation till Judith Butlers performativitetsteori görs med hjälp av deltagande observation och intervjuer med personer som sett showen en jämförelse av hur tolkningarna kan skilja sig åt beroende på tillgång till dessa teoretiska verktyg. Skillnaden visar sig vara stor, informanterna ser främst en problematisering av sexualitet medan det sett utifrån Butler är kön och genus som fokuseras. En annan faktor som är betydande för tolkningen är feministiska utgångspunkter.

AbstractThe author Selma Lagerlöf was born in 1858 at Mårbacka, in Värmland and died in 1940. Fifty years after Selma´s death were her correspondence released and ten thousand of letters were found in the collection. But it was just the correspondence between Selma and Sofie Elkan who interested people because they wanted to know if Selma and Sofie have had a sexual relationship. Later, in time for Christmas 2008 the Swedish Television shows a film about Selma. "Selma Lagerlöf Society" was critical to the movie and thougt that the movie focused too much on Selma`s sexual orientation.
