The theme of this essay is the principle of free access to the Swedish Public Libraries, and its aim is to fmd out the opinion of adult visitors of such libraries as regards the introduction of fees on the borrowing of books, already existing fees such as reservation fees, charges for interlibrary loans and charges for the late return of books.The main part of our survey comprises questionnaires that were handed out to 100 visitors at the Norrkoping City Library and 100 visitors at the Eskilstuna City and Provincial Library. In order to illustrate the fee problem from another angle, interviews with staff people from the two libraries were carried out A large part of the essay consists of material aiming to give a general picture of the subject, e.g. how the "free of charge principle" is tied to the Swedish library system, what arguments have been presented to maintain or reverse this principle, and a comparison of the relative situation in other countries. As the conception of popular education is so basic for the "free of charge principle", we also account for the idea of popular education.The result of our questionnaire shows, among other things, that 60,9% cannot consider paying for any of the free services offer by the libraries today, 21,3% answered that they could possibly consider paying for some of the services and 17,8% answered that they didn't know. 76% would rather pay for a library card than stop borrowing books altogether..

Reading spaceFurniture for reading for the new city library of GöteborgThe main purpose of my project has been to inspire people to read books at the library. I wanted to create something very site specific and chose a room on the second floor of the new city library to work with. To be able to relax, feel inspired and to concentrate on reading, the visitors of the library need to experience a sense of security. My solution to the different conditions or problems in the room and the needs I identified is a seat hanging inside a frame. When sitting down in the seat, the frame is low enough to see over but it is still experienced as a private spatiality.

The aim of this master's thesis is to study how gender equity is discussed and worked with at a Swedish public library, and what potential consequences these discussions will bring. By analysing different types of documents and interviews with library staff using discourse psychological theories and methods we show that two dominating discourses coexist and determine the direction of how gender equity is discussed. These discourses are argued to create and uphold gender and gender roles within the organisation as well as in society at large.In our study we find that one of the identified discourses has, as one of its consequences, that it preserves and regenerates traditional gender roles. This discourse is mainly used when discussing personnel policies and when recruiting. We call this the discourse of gender role preservation.The second discourse is mainly seen when discussing the public dimension of the library's functions.

Syftet med denna undersökning är att få en inblick i om och hur förlusten av sockenkyrkan påverkade livet i Nedertorneå-Haparanda församling socialt samt religiöst och i så fall hur eventuella förändringar yttrade sig när de efter kriget 1809 förlorade hemkyrkan på Björkön-Pirkkiö till Ryssland. Församlingskyrkan blev efter gränsdragningen kvar på ryskt område. Eftersom kyrkan ansvarade för ett flertal nuvarande statliga uppgifter under denna tid, har jag funderat på hur undervisning, fattigvård samt sjukvård fungerade utan kyrka och prästerskap. Hur förrättningar och gudstjänster fungerade i en sådan komplex situation är ytterligare faktorer jag studerat närmare.För att ta reda på hur det förhöll sig med detta under den här tidsperioden har jag ägnat mig åt litteraturstudium; vilket till största delen varit av historisk karaktär. Det har rört sig om kyrkohistoria, studium av samhällsutveckling, samt allmän global och lokal historia.Utifrån det samlade materialet har jag kommit fram till att livet påverkades ur flera aspekter för invånarna i Nedertorneå-Haparanda församling när de förlorade sockenkyrkan 1809.

The purpose of the thesis is to describe the developing of the branch libraries of the public library of Kristianstad between the years of 1967 and 1977. The municipality of Kristianstad was grounded by a unification of the city of Kristianstad and ten small municipalities. The fusion takes place in three different stages during the years of 1967, 1971 and 1974. The first stage included the city of Kristianstad and the municipalities of Araslöv, Nosaby, Träne and Vä. The municipality of Araslöv got free small villages and village of Färlöv was the biggest one.

I mitt examensarbete har jag undersökt vilka konflikter som gestaltas och förankras i tre bilderböcker. Jag har undersökt vilka normer som blir synliga genom dessa konflikter. Om normbrott leder till straff hur ser de då ut? Min empiri består av tre av de mest utlånade bilderböckerna på Stockholms stadsbibliotek 2007; Känner du Pippi Långstrump, Näpp! sa Alfons Åberg och Pricken.Som blivande konst- och mediepedagog funderar jag över bilders medverkan, hur saker som gestaltas och visualiseras har del i skapandet av jaget. Jag har använt semiotiken som metod i mitt arbete, genom dess begrepp har jag delat upp bilden i dess beståndsdelar för att få en inblick och djupare förståelse i vad bilden vill säga.

Det övergripande syftet med vårt arbete är att belysa den lokala konstruktionen av motivation. Vi vill mer specifikt belysa skillnader mellan hur motivation kommer till uttryck i olika omgivningar. Utifrån detta har vi skapat en modell som bygger på två parametrar kunskapskrav och karriärmöjligheter. Vi har sedan utgått från dessa när vi strukturerat vårt empiriska urval. Primärdatan är ett urval av 12 respondenter från både privat och offentlig sektor.

This Masters thesis in Library and Information Science has the title The New Information Desks at Malmö Public Library . During the rebuilding of the library in Malmö a new information desk was developed. This desk differs to a great extent from conventional information desks used in libraries. The information desk is triangular with rounded edges which allows the librarian and the user of the library to work side by side without any physical barriers. The aim of this thesis is to explore the requirements for the information desks formulated by the library and how they are perceived by the librarians and the users of the library.

The aim of this thesis was to look closer into the shelf arrangement and user behavior in a fiction collection with the municipal library in Lund as an example. The purpose was to investigate to what extent the shelf arrangement in this library is adapted to the behavior of users when it comes to searching for and choosing fiction. The study is mainly focused on the division between Hc- and Hce-classified books (Swedish fiction and fiction translated into Swedish), the special shelving of the publications of the last five years, and the genre categorization. The user behavior is primarily examined from the perspective of three search strategies; looking for a specific author or title, browsing within a genre or browsing without having a specific genre in mind. The study also deals with within which genres of fiction the users are searching and if they are looking for a book that is translated or not, new or older.

The aim of this bachelor-thesis is to study how the City Library in Norrköping, in collaboration with the outpatient centre, Gränden, has assisted people with substance abuse problems through a bibliotherapeutic reading circle known as, Människor mellan raderna (People between the lines). My theoretical framework is based upon Ruth M. Tews and Berth Danermark?s theories. Tew states that in order to create a well-functioning team consisting of various professional competences, each individual needs to possess certain character traits including the ability to contribute with their unique competence and an openness to receive and absorb the other participants? contributions.

The purpose of this master thesis is to study the correlation and meaning of current ideas and practice at the public library of Gothenburg. This was done by comparing the visions and ideas expressed by the library through the library plan, with how the daily practice looks. For the theoretical framework organizational theory is used and research data was collected both from public documents and through observations. The public library of Gothenburg were chosen for the study because of it's newly renovated facilities. The idea is that these facilities make a suitable study object of the current ideas and priorities of the public Swedish library in general.The results show that the public library practice in Sweden still rests on the original public library ideas such as offering information for free and treating every user as equal.

Uppsatsen syftar till att uppmärksamma vilka könsroller bilderböcker förmedlar i de bilderböcker som barn i förskola och skolans tidigare del möter. Eftersom bilderböcker ur ett historiskt perspektiv har föredragit manliga karaktärer och skildrat olikheter mellan män och kvinnor bidrar det till att pojkar och flickor möter olika förväntningar och uppfattningar. Eftersom det är lärares uppgift att motverka traditionella könsroller (Lpo94,Lpf 94, Lpfö 98) blir bilderböckers förmedlande av könsroller av vikt. Undersökningen utgår ifrån ett genusperspektiv med stöd i Yvonne Hirdmans (2007) genussystemteori och Robert Connells (1995) begrepp hegemonisk maskulinitet. I studien undersöks vilka normer, värden och ideal kring könsroller som förmedlas genom tre populära bilderböcker.

Library 2.0 is a term which emerged a few years ago and is frequently discussed. There is no uniform definition of the term but the central aspect of the concept is to encourage increased participation from library users.The aim of this Master's thesis is to investigate if and if so, how the professional role of the librarian is affected by Library 2.0. To do that, we have conducted a case study at the public library in Umeå. Their homepage minabibliotek.se is a practical example of Library 2.0. The homepage is based on interactivity and the library users can participate in various ways.We thougt that qualitive interviews was the best way to gain an understanding for how the librarians at the public library in Umeå experience how the work with minabibliotek.se affect their professional role.

En annan viktig aspekt är hur de olika bankerna arbetar aktivt med belöningssystemet. Vad är orsaken till att bankerna har de belöningssystem som de har? Hur vet banken i vilken grad organisationen bör motivera sina anställda med tanke på att alla kan motiveras av olika saker?Syfte:  Syftet med undersökningen var att granska två olika banker och undersöka vad de har för belöningssystem samt hur de arbetar aktivt med det. Vi har valt att granska två av Sverige största banker, Handelsbanken och Nordea.

Syftet med detta arbete var att titta på vilka olika familjekonstellationer som presenteras i svensk barnlitteratur utgiven i sin första upplaga år 2006, för barn i åldrarna 6 ? 9 år. Därför har jag genomfört en kvantitativ studie av den litteratur som matchat ovannämnda kriterier på Lunds stadsbibliotek, för att se i vilken utsträckning de familjekonstellationer som presenteras matchar den mångfald vi ser i Sverige idag. Jag har också genomfört en kvalitativ analys av tre barnböcker i vilka en familj där någon har en funktionsnedsättning presenteras, en familj där föräldrar invandrat/familjen invandrat tillsammans samt en titel där någon i familjen har en sexualitet som inte faller under termen heterosexuell. Detta för att se hur dessa kan användas i arbetet för att bryta ner samt förhindra uppkomsten av fördomar och stereotyper i klassrummet. Arbetet visar att kärnfamiljen fortfarande dominerar i svensk barnlitteratur.
