There are some key elements which distinguish a general operating system, such as Linux, from a Real Time operating system, such as OSE. The later belongs to the category of soft Real Time systems while Linux is a general operating system, with significantly improved real time properties after version 2.6. These improvements make it interesting to compare the two systems.When comparing two operating systems, there are a number of issues which have to be considered. One way to measure the performance of the systems is by studying the time consumption for the same functionality and hardware.During the study, the items that appeared as the most important for the performance of the systems, were: process primitives, system primitives, interprocess communication, context switches and interrupt latency.This work demonstrates that it is possible and reasonable to do performance testing on two different operating systems. The implemented tests cover a number of basic functionalities, which appeared to be the most crucial ones for the performance of the systems..

This thesis aims to discuss how an information system and its users may adapt to each other. The main discussion is how to create an information system that is adaptable without losing its organising properties. The thesis uses a holistic approach to the topic and the areas being dealt with are information architecture, interactive information retrieval and information searching. Interorganisatoriska informationssystem (IOS) är en teknik som finns att tillgå organisationer vilket gör det möjligt för dessa att på ett relativt enkelt sätt kommunicera direkt med deras affärspartner och utbyta data som är till nytta i deras affärsrelation. IOS minskar kostnaden för utbyte av information och ökar organisationernas informationstillgänglighet. Vi kommer i denna studie undersöka vilka specifika problem de olika organisationerna upplever vid drift av IOS. Vi vill även uppmärksamma varför organisationer upplever dessa problem, samt även visa på förebyggande åtgärder. Undersökningen genomfördes med hjälp av kvalitativa intervjuer med fyra organisationer.

Detta examensarbete är genomförd som en explorativ fallstudie på ärendehanteringssystem för att se vilken påverkan dessa system har på företagen som använder dem. Tidigare forskning har visat många fördelar från enskilda funktioner inom ärendehantering och ärendehanteringssystem, men det finns en avsaknad av undersökningar som tittar på dessa system som helhet.
