The purpose of this Master thesis is to examine theinformation use and Information seeking behaviour amongpersons who actively work with information. For this study,interviews have been conducted with a group of six personswho work with information in information intensiveorganizations. The aim is to answer the following questions:What kind of information is connected to the respondents?work tasks? What is the purpose of their search forinformation? Which information sources do they use and whatkind of information sources do they demand? The theoreticalframework consists mainly of Wilsons information needs andInformation seeking model.The results of this study show that none of the respondentshad any strategic model for their work with information. Theinformation that the respondents were searching for is ofdifferent content and depends on the organization in which therespondent operates.

Our study emanates from a socio?cultural perspective on learning and aim to describe and comparetwo different upper secondary school classes and their work with information literacy as a socialpractice in project work and their use of ICT (information and communication technologies). Thequestions at issue in the study are; how the pupils handle Information seeking processes, whatdifferences and similarities can be observed in the two social practices and which consequences thesedifferences have in an project work environment.Our choice of research methods to collect data consists of both observations and interviews withpupils and teachers. The interviews performed in the study can be categorized as qualitativeinterviews, and in addition we recorded and took notes during the interviews and transcribed thematerial.The study shows the importance of a good learning environment when it comes to working withInformation seeking processes, that the instructor?s role is of outmost importance and that the pupilsfundamental knowledge of Information seeking processes and their information literacy are keysuccess factors when it comes to project work linked to ICT to be productive.

The purpose of this Master?s Thesis is to examine and describe how a wiki can be used in the Information seeking education. We believe that the preconditions for education and learning are changing; technology and Internet has introduced new tools for the learning situation. To examine this we will describe how the wiki technology can be used in the Information seeking education, describe how the goals of the Information seeking education are reached when using a wiki and lastly investigate the school librarian?s pedagogical role in wiki-based education.

The aim of this Masters thesis is to investigate how trained social workers experience information in their daily work. The thesis focussed on three major questions: - What type of information and information sources are mostly used by the trained social workers? - What kind of information barriers are described by the participants? - How can the patterns of Information seeking and information use be understood on the basis of the trained social workers professional and social context? Semi-structured interviews were carried out with trained social workers working with child welfare enquiries. My theoretical framework consists of user and context oriented theories about classifications of information, information barriers and models of information sources. My conclusions are that trained social workers working with risk assessment in child protection services, need to use different kinds of information in their daily work, such as problem information, domain information and problem-solving information.

Denna single case studie, med multipel baslinjemätning över beteenden, utvärderade huruvida frekvensen traumarelaterade undvikandebeteenden minskade vid 12 sessioners behandling under 6 veckor med Seeking Safety (en behandlingsmanual med copingstrategier för PTSD och samtidigt missbruk), hos patienter med PTSD som inte bedömts lämpliga/redo att direkt börja traumafokuserad KBT. Därutöver utvärderades huruvida behandling med Seeking Safety, kunde öka villigheten att genomgå traumafokuserad KBT. 4 patienter deltog i studien varav 3 fullföljde behandlingen. Resultaten visade en svag tendens i riktning med hypoteserna, men studiens resultat i sin helhet ger ej stöd för behandlingens effekt hos patientgruppen. Av denna studie går ej att utläsa huruvida behandling med Seeking Safety kan leda till minskning av traumarelaterade undvikande-beteenden..

The purpose of this study was to describe how journalists do research for their articles and whether there is a need to create a knowledge bank of the material that journalists use for writing these articles. I also looked at how knowledge management could be used at a daily newspaper to add value to the information used by the journalists. The thesis is based on four interviews with journalists, a literature review and a practical project. I helped a journalist with his Information seeking and later tried to organize the material. This project gave me an understanding of how varying the material that journalists use is and how difficult it would be to try to organize it in order to create an organizational knowledge resource of the material.

The aim of this thesis is to create an understanding of nurses' information practices. To be able to search, find, use and critically evaluate information is important, not just during studies, but also in professional life. This study is intended to deepen our understanding of nurses ' information literacy in a workplace context.The main questions are: What information do nurses need on a daily basis and how do they experience information activities? What factors determine the sources they use? Do information practices vary in the workplace? Do nurses? professional experiences impact on their information practices? Nine nurses were interviewed using semi-structured interviews. The interviews have been analysed through a hermeneutic approach.

The aim of this master?s thesis is to examine the information needs in the character subjects of the students at a vocationally oriented program in the Swedish upper secondary school. I also examine from which sources the students get the information. I want to create a wider understanding of Information seeking processes at a vocationally oriented programme. The main focus is the students? own thoughts and opinions about their information needs and Information seeking processes.

This thesis has the purpose of developing a normative theoretical framework based on different political philosophers and scientists view on deliberative democratic theory, discourse ethics and a modified norm of citizenship. This framework is supposed to contain the ideal communicative situation for people seeking asylum. Hence, the thesis argues that political influence is best practised through communicative rights, and that people seeking asylum are in title to such rights. We conclude that the standards needed to be met in order to reach the ideal are: translators, translated information, arenas for- or channels of communication, language education, and deliberative education. Once the framework is established we focus our interest on the Swedish state.

This Bachelor?s thesis is related to the area within library and information studies that focuses on Information seeking and information practices. The study deals with how politically engaged young people seek information in relation to their political interests. The purpose of the study is to create an understanding of the roles that different forms of information-related activities play within the framework of political interest and of the feelings, experiences and challenges that such activities may give rise to for those involved. This Masters thesis investigates user education at academic libraries. The increased demand on students to keep themselves updated in the information society of today urges libraries to develop their user education, concerning both content and teaching strategies. The aim of this study is to examine user education at academic libraries, and the approach of librarians in their teaching. The research questions address how librarians implement the user education and what they focus on. We also want to explore what differences and similarities there are between the user educations, and if anything could be further developed within them.

The current research examined whether motives, traditional mass media consumption and individual differences (social activity and political interest) predicted the use of social media among a group of university students in China. In coherence with Uses and Gratifications assumptions the study found that the factors differentially predicted the extent of media use. Information seeking, social interaction and affinity were the main reasons for using social media. There was a negative correlation between television viewing and use of social media, in addition to a negative correlation between Information seeking and use of the media. Results further suggest that social media are used to enhance social capital, since student?s being socially active offline, tend to use the media to a greater extent than those less active..

The aim of this Master's thesis is to examine difficulties concerning information acquisition, use, and management experienced by graduate students in physics during their first years of research work. Semi-structured, qualitative interviews were carried out with nine doctoral students. The theoretical background for analysis of the material is based on the work of Patrick Wilson, with particular focus on the concept of cognitive authority, and on that of Lars Seldén, who has proposed the idea of an Information seeking career running parallel to the academic career of the researcher. Results from the interviews indicate that most of the students, in the early stages of their Information seeking careers, rely to a great extent on supervisors and more experienced colleagues when identifying material needed for the research project. In a situation where information of potential relevance is abundant and where experience and focus are not yet fully developed, senior researchers function as cognitive authorities and as guides to other cognitive authorities.

The purpose of this thesis is to show students? information behaviour in everyday life and towards the Student Union of Borås. Methods of active Information seeking and more random information encountering as well as information ignorance are of interest. The study focused on three issues; the first was to examine what information behaviour the students presented while acquiring information in their everyday life. The second was to find out what information behaviour the students had to acquire information from the Student Union of Borås.

The thesis aims at, from a user perspective, examining how a group of industrial researchers understand the Information seeking in their every day work. A qualitative method is employed. The empirical material consists of open-ended interviews with in all ten researchers. All of them work at the Swiss-Swedish Technology Company ABB's research laboratory in Västerås. The thesis is based on the opinion that the scientific knowledge production has become commercialised and that the scientific communication is going through certain changes.
