The task in this master thesis was to design and construct a prototype of a satellite antenna driver unit. The unit is to be robust and work in cold weather down to -40°C, so that it can be mounted on the roof of a minibus. A microcontroller controls the H-bridges simultaneous, each connected to an electrical motor. Hardware and software protections were implemented to ensure that the antenna can not turn outside its allowed area and risk breaking. This thesis work aims to describe the prerequisites for a distributed treatment platform for real-time sharing of rounds performed by paediatric oncologists. The work started during the autumn 2004 and is directly aimed at improving the situation for the thirty or so specialist treating children with cancer. The work is not limited to the description of such a platform but also to select suitable software and Hardware for the implementation of the platform and further more to coordinate the implementation. The production of several documents describing the platform is also part of this work. This report presents a master thesis project performed at Elekta AB during the fall of 2013 and early 2014. Elekta is a medical technology company and their main product in the Stockholm office is a gamma knife used for radiosurgery. The gamma knife contains a cluster of a dozen motor servos and motors used for adjusting the patient and the radiation sources over a CAN bus. A self-developed Hardware-in-loop simulator running on a PC with LabVIEW is currently being used for integration level testing of the control system of the gamma knife. The simulator has some problems with it not running in real-time and having other performance issues.

Recent developments suggest that private and public companies are moving towards a more service-oriented business. Service orientation means that Hardware is often sold in packages with service agreements, which makes the investment more difficult to assess. The challenges that arise will be to assess the value of the overall package, the information needed to make informed decisions and the operational requirements in combination of Hardware, software, support agreements, training and more. The paper therefore aims to examine how decision makers can evaluate the benefits of these investments and obtain a stronger base to make better decisions. There is within the area of radiology in the region of Västra Götaland a pronounced need for a better flow of information regarding medical equipment and related service agreements.

At the Department of Technology and Built environment at the University of Gävle there was an interest to study GNU Radio, which is an "open source radio project. The project is based on that most of the radio signal processing is made in an ordinary PC. The idea behind this degree project was that in a laptop there are several radio transmitters/receivers that takes space, generates heat and transmit in varied frequency band etcetera. All these radio transmitters/receivers could be replaced with a Software Defined Radio system. It means that one common, general radio Hardware is used to different communications such as: WLAN, Bluetooth, GPRS, 3G etcetera. The waveform is generated in the software, which makes the system very flexible.

This thesis discusses the possibilities to distribute digital video in a military vehicle. Today, an analogue system is used, which has a maximum capacity of eighteen video sources and the same number of monitors. The purpose of this thesis is to increase the systems capabilities regarding secure distribution and additional functions. Both software and Hardware tests are made to investigate the features of the digital video standard MPEG-2. Both the coding delay and the image quality are of great interest.

Denna rapport behandlar konstruktion och tillverkning av ett videokort till Versa Module Eurocard (VME) bussen. Kortet skall användas vid laborationer i kurser där mikrodatorkort VM42 från PEP Modular Computer används. Grafikkortet klarar en upplösning på minst 640x480 punkter med 24-bitars färg. Hela konstruktionen är uppbyggd kring Lattice® MACH4A3-384/160. Designen av MACH kretsen är uppbyggd i Very High speed integrated Hardware Description Language (VHDL) med hjälp av programmen ActiveHDL, Synplify Pro®, ispDesignExpert samt LatticePRO.
Ett mät- och reglersystem för temperaturkompensering
An automatic control system for calibration of pressure indicators has been constructed. This control system can be used as a complement to the calibration system located at AerotechTelub, division MainPartner, in Linköping. The calibration system used today contains some not wanted pressure changes, which is compensated by hand today. The new system presented in this report automates the calibrating process and simplifies the calibration. Suitable Hardware as motor, controls card and so on have been found and software in the form of Visual Basic program has been developed.
Uppföljning av system för vägentreprenörer i skogen
Holmen Skog is one of the largest forestry companies in Scandinavia and they depend heavily on a large network of forest roads for production and logistics in connection to their forestry operations. The company recently introduced a new system for planning of road management. The system will also be developed with the intention to facilitate the monitoring of actions performed by road contractors. This report will provide information to support future decisions regarding further development of the system, after its introduction. In addition to a presentation of results from interviews, the report also provides a smaller study of the different subjects associated with roads, process work and process development.
The study is largely based on interviews with road contractors that perform work for Holmen Skog today.
Utvärdering av Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) som hjälpprocessor för prestandaökning
Det här arbetet är en utvärdering om huruvida det finns problem som kan få en prestandavinst då man använder en Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) som hjälpprocessor till en mikroprocessor i jämförelse men att enbart använda en mikro-processor. För att avgöra detta implementerades algoritmen gaussfiltrering dels på en mikroprocessor med språket C och dels för en FPGA med hårdvarubeskrivningsspråket Very-High-Speed Integrated Circuits Hardware Description Language (VHDL). Simuleringar gjordes för dessa två implementationer och resultatet visade att det var möjligt att få en prestandaökning på 25 gånger för denna speciella algoritm..

The purpose of this project was to further develop and complete a quadcopter that had been built in an earlier course at KTH, so that it could be used for demonstration and education at the school. The quadcopter was at the beginning of the project completed when it came to Hardware, and there was some software functionality implemented but no system for automatic stabilization. The main goal of the project was to implement such a system, and to combine it with the previous functionality to make the quadcopter operable and able to fly. To create a functioning and stable ground multiple basic software features has been implemented, and on top of that additional software to improve the safety, stability and functionality. The most important part is the control system that is responsible for converting sensor and control signals to suitable motor values.
