Den här studien är tvådelad, den första delen är en kvalitativ empirisk textanalys med kvantitativa inslag, av Sveriges fyra största tidningar. Den undersöker förändringen i bilden av Venezuelas president mellan 1998 och 2007. Den andra delen försöker utifrån en Gramscianskt inspirerad syn förklara hur den ?borgerliga hegemonin? (som representeras av ovanstående tidningar) har hanterat Chavez som fenomen. Slutsatsen är att Hugo Chavez progressiva reformer ständigt knyts an till negativa sammanhang som att han är antidemokrat och frotterar sig med diktatorer..

In this thesis I discuss how the western conception of reason is an aspect of power. I consider the western comprehension of rationality to be a masculine and ethnocentric understanding, though by itself acclaimed to be universal. My purpose with this thesis is to analyze how this western and masculine conceptualisation of reason follows a Gramscian structure of power, which makes it reproduce itself in the postcolonial project of science.The theory of hegemony and ideology of Antonio Gramsci is central for analyzing the reproduction of the western subject of knowledge. The theoretical approach is also based on the understanding of the Other as essential for defining the identity of the self. My two main objects of study is one text of Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak, which discuss the problems of representation, and one of Chandra Talpade Mohanty, in which she examines the tendency to neocolonization in certain western postcolonial feminist research.

The objective of this essay has been to show how the image of the Soviet Union in ?Alla tiders historia? differs in the 1989 and 2004 editions of the book. To explain these differences I have used a discourse analytic perspective, mainly inspired by Michel Foucault and his philosophical theories of the constructions of objects, and also Faircloughs critical discourse analysis inspired by Gramsci.In this paper the two editions of ?Alla tiders historia? are presented with quotes which are then analysed from using my theoretical framework. In the 1989 edition three themes emerged: continuity, undecidability and ambivalence, which together present an image of a Soviet Union which is not clearly defined within the political discourse.In the 2004 edition this struggle over the discourse has been settled and the Soviet Union?s position as a dictatorship has been determined, at the same time as the Soviet Union is put in a negative relationship with Czar Russia and is connected with Nazi Germany.

In the wake of the latest financial crisis, a group of individuals launched the Occupy WallStreet movement. It wanted to change the structures that economic and political life arefounded upon. They believe that the established structures are unfair and exploit the majorityof the population. Researchers critisised the movement saying it was ambiguous because itcould not produce any realistic ideas for change, while others thought that was a success forthe movement.Therefore, the aim of this Bachelor Thesis is to examine the different ideas articulatedby the Occupy movement and present them systematically. Through an inductive qualitativetext analysis six different themes are identified regarding how the movement wants to changethe structures in society to make them fair.

The aim of this thesis is to explore the relationship between the surrounding world and the library with respect to the library?s need to provide a Library 2.0 web site. We also explore the relationship between the physical and the virtual library. Our research objects are the public libraries of Stockholm and the Umeå region, that maintain the web sites Biblioteket.se and minabibliotek.se respectively. By applying Dorte Skot-Hansen's theory of rationales we found that the Stockholm public library is acting in accordance with the experience rationale, whereas the libraries of Umeå are influenced by the instrumental rationale.

This work deals with the introductory course for immigrants (Introduktionskurs för invandrare ? IVIK) in the Swedish municipalities. I have studied how the participants in this education are brought into a Swedish understanding of religion, both in the formal SO (social studies) and when it comes to informal transferring of values.I have interviewed teachers and school leaders, interviews which I have then analysed.To understand the educational environment, I have used Antonio Gramsci´s theory of hegemony, as I perceive it, as well as Michel Foucault´s ideas of power and knowledge.I have found that fostering into a ?Swedish? view on religion appears in the education, implicitly as well as explicitly, though the informants tend to have an ambivalent opinion as to how this should be carried out, and to which extent..

Sociala rörelser som utmanar den rådande ordningens etablerade värden och målsättningar formeras ständigt, och utverkar nya kamper, på den samhälleliga arenan. Allt för ofta ses dessa rörelser som något hotande, som uttryck för irrationella utbrott av affekt, snarare än som symptom på grundläggande samhälleliga konflikter och kontradiktioner, vars artikuleringar bör förstås i relation till samhället som en helhet, och till dess dominerande diskurser. Och allt för sällan ses värdet i den kunskap som skapas inom dessa rörelser, en kunskap som ofta brukar komma samhället till del, men även förskjuta de gränsdragningar som konstituerar kunskapen, makten och vetandet.Utifrån ett studium av Förbundet Kommunist, en liten organisation inom den svenska revolutionära 70-talsvänster som hade sina rötter i 60-talets studentuppror, den så kallade bokstavsvänstern, diskuteras dels, på ett mer generellt plan, hur man kan förstå fenomenet sociala rörelser, utifrån teorier som står i relation till en marxistisk problematik (med teoretiker som Antonio Gramsci, Louis Althusser, samt Chantal Mouffe och Ernesto Laclau). Dels diskuteras och undersöks hur denna organisations artikuleringar kan förstås, i sin historiska, sociala och diskursiva kontext, utifrån en symbolorienterad kulturanalys. Främst fokuseras på den leninistiska diskurs som organisationen verkade inom, samt den "proletarisering" som organisationens medlemmar företog.

Den 1 januari 1994, samma dag som den Mexikanska staten blev medlem i frihandelsavtalet NAFTA, kunde man höra ett ?¡Ya Basta!? runt om i delstaten Chiapas i sydöstra Mexiko. Denna uppsats behandlar den Zapatistiska motståndsrörelsen utifrån Gramsciansk och neoGramsciansk teoribildning för att förklara deras kamp som en reaktion på den rådande neoliberalistiska ekonomiska globaliseringen. Genom att studera deras ideologi och handlingar så menar vi att de utgör en del av ett kontrahegemoniskt motstånd beläget inom den nya globala anti-globaliseringsrörelsen som i sin tur utgör en del av det globala civila samhället. Zapatisternas struktur och metod har, som ett resultat av den ekonomiska globaliseringen, omvandlats och anpassat sig för att kunna föra sin kamp och visa på att alternativ till neoliberalismen existerar..

The purpose of this study is to use a qualitative method to investigate the Swedish curriculums of 1919, 1962 and 2011 in search of attitudes and different usages of the popular culture of the time. To reach these conclusions Antonio Gramsci?s theories about cultural hegemony have been applied to prove how the superior classes, in this study these classes are represented by the Swedish school as an institution, use popular culture to maintain sovereignty of the lower classes. Ergo the problem highlighted in this study is whether the cultural class society exists in a fixed state since the 1919?s with the school as the institution to implement the tradition of cultural hegemony.

Abstract1994 trädde NAFTA i kraft, ett frihandelsavtal mellan Kanada, USA och Mexikosom varit föremål för en intensiv debatt mellan dess förespråkare ochmotståndare. Vi har i vår studie valt att uppmärksamma två sfärer i detmexikanska civilsamhället, som på olika sätt uttryckt kritik mot NAFTA. Dessa ärdelar av zapatiströrelsen samt nätverket RMALC (Mexican Network On FreeTrade). De aktuella delarna av zapatiströrelsen är EZLN (Ejército Zapatista deLiberación Nacional) och den civila FZLN (Frente Zapatista de LiberaciónNacional). Genom att använda oss av begrepp från framför allt neoGramscianskteoribildning har vi diskuterat hur motstånd mot neoliberal globalisering kanuppstå och artikuleras.

Efter terrorattackerna mot USA den elfte september 2001 har Huntingtons tes att det förekommer ett globalt civilisationskrig fått tjäna som ett rättfärdigande av USA:s attacker och ockupationer av Afghanistan samt Irak.Följande studies syfte är att genomföra en kritisk läsning av Huntingtons bok utifrån den ideologikritiska metoden. Den frågeställning uppsatsen försöker besvara är ?vilka maktintressen främjar Samuel Huntingtons verk ?The clash of civilizations and the remaking of world order??.

This is a qualitative study about Art transformation and commodification in the digital age. The study applies a rhetoric analysis with the aim to understand how art sellers, gallery owners and entrepreneurs take part in this transformation process through their websites? presentation texts ?about us?. The analysis is related to communication theories but it is also inspired by other theories such as Gramsci?s hegemony theory and Bourdieu?s cultural critical theory.

In this two years master?s thesis I examine the library?s representation of research and its influence upon the relationship between the library practice and the research practice. I also intend to find out what controls the representation and if it is possible to see changes in the representation over time. My source material has been texts published in the Swedish library journal ? and social domain ? Biblioteksbladet during the last decennium (2001?2011).

Syftet med studien är att genom en jämförande kvalitativ textanalys av politiskt strategiska dokument studera i första hand hur valda strategier uttrycker idéer avseende antiterror-strategier, och i föreliggande fall om, USA:s terrorismstrategier har påverkat EU:s och Sveriges utformning av sina respektive strategidokument avseende synen på fenomenet terrorism. Syftet breddas för att om möjligt visa på om Sverige kan ses som närmare USA än EU i det institutionella antiterrorarbetet avseende de politiska uttrycken som används kring terrorism och antiterrorstrategier. Teorier som ligger till grund för analysen kommer från Giddens, Gramsci och Kagans tankar kring makt, hegemoni, påverkan och inflytande. Metoden för att genomföra analysen bygger delvis på Faircloughs diskursanalys. Resultatet indikerar att USA intar en proaktiv hållning i sin antiterrorstrategi och blir på detta sätt tongivande över sin egen såväl som över andras utformning av antiterrorstrategier.

The aim of this study is to go into depth and analyze the identity ?immigrant? (invandrare) and how it is constituted in Dagens Nyheter, Svenska Dagbladet and Sydsvenska Dagbladet. An investigation (SOU 2006:21) by Swedish authorities concludes that immigrants are portrayed in an unfavorable way in Swedish media, whilst Gunnar Sandelin in a debate article in Sweden?s biggest morning newspaper (Dagens Nyheter) meant that Swedish media lies about immigrants, creating an image of them that is too favorable that is not in touch with reality. This gives this thesis momentum to further investigate the identity immigrants are given in Swedish media.The theory and method used in this thesis is Laclau?s and Mouffe?s discourse theory.
