The RECK gene is a relatively new discovered gene with important implications for cancer research. The research has been primarily concentrated on the human gene with the ultimate aim to identify the invasive characteristics. Up regulated RECK is linked to significantly prolonged survival rates in patients with severe forms of malignancies. RECK is normally expressed in all cells of the body and has an important role in the balance between destructive and constructive features of the extracellular matrix. The RECK protein is a membrane-bound glycoprotein that inhibit matrix metalloproteinases which has the function of breaking down the ECM. There is a significant correlation between RECK gene expression and the formation of new vessels, presumably via the mediation of VEGF which is an important and powerful inducer of angiogenesis.

More specifically its aim was to find out more about the function and the meaning of the appraisal talk, for the organization, managers and co-workers point of view, and if there was any specific method applied. Two of the central questions were: How did the managers and co-workers describe the function and the meaning of appraisal talks? Were there any differences or similarities of the respondent?s point of view, depended of their position in the organization? The method of analysis was qualitative with a critical reflective approach. The study was based on interviews with three managers and four co-workers, in the public service of elderly care in Kalmar municipality.

In light of the recent scandals in Europe involving food labelling, this study will be focusing on food labelling. This study?s purpose is to investigate the extent of knowledge concerning labeling and presentation of food in the different food stores in Halmstad.The study was conducted out of our own interests with the guidance from the environmental health office. The study included nine different food stores of different size. The focus in this study was to verify how well five selected products follow the labeling rules.

För att förbättra komforten har önskemål om möjligheter till uppföljning uppkommit.Denna rapport beskriver framtagningen av en accelerationsmeter för bussar. Systemet kan mäta och lagra g-krafter från en accelerationssensor som sedan ska skickas till en dator i fordonet.

There are several possibilities for those with an eating disorder, who wishes to get treatment and recover to get help and support. But for those who are not ready to recover, there are not any help to receive. Pro-ana is a youth culture where individuals who want to achieve the anorectic ideal help and support each other. The purpose of this study was to describe and analyse the content and the need for the Pro-ana community on Internet, among young people with eating disorders. More specifically the aim was to find out how young Swedish people uses the Pro-ana communities on Internet.

I denna uppsats analyseras och jämförs fyra olika gymnasieläroböcker inom historieämnets A-kurs. En väsentlig avgränsning som görs är att endast det kapitel som specifikt behandlar det kalla krigets tid studeras. Det övergripande syftet med uppsatsen är att belysa skillnader och likheter läromedlen emellan, med avseende på presentation och historiesyn. En målsättning med studien är vidare att den ska kunna ha en praktisk användning genom att underlätta valet av läroböcker för gymnasielärare. Metoden som använts är kvalitativ vilken tar sig uttryck via en omarbetad version av Sture Långströms läroboksanalys, hämtad ur hans avhandling Författarröst och lärobokstradition ? en historiedidaktisk studie.

The purpose of this study is to discuss the use of social media by the Swedish Police for democratic purposes. The idea of citizen empowerment is closely related to the development of new communication technologies such as social media. Yet many studies indicate that governmental institutions rarely make use of the assumed potentials of social media.In this study, the democratic potential of social media is derived from Habermas normative concept of deliberative participation. Operational definitions emphasize discursive equality, interactive reciprocity and external impact. The analytical framework is combined with qualitative text analysis to highlight the conditions of interaction between representatives of the Police and citizens.In conclusion: the democratic potential of social media, from a Habermasian point of view, is to a significant extent neglected at the expense of its strategic advantages.

Organizational culture is subject of a great debate nowadays and there is especially three schools which affairs its nature of reality; modernism, symbolism and postmodernism. This thesis is built upon a case study about the organization Idé & KunskapsCentrum, which experience various cultural issues. Observations made during visits in the organization environment forms the ground on which discussions about different perspectives are made regarding organizational culture.The thesis describes and investigates the subject of organizational culture and its relationship to human behavior in organizations. Furthermore, I discuss and analyze organizational culture from the three different perspectives, in order to present a critical view on the subject for the reader.The thesis is based upon a case study about the organization Idé & KunskapsCentrum. A qualitative research method has been conducted with data collected especially from an ethnographic study, but also via semi-structured interviews.

The use of earth bricks in Scanian building traditionThe present work is concerned with the manufacturing and use of earth bricks inbuilt heritage in the south Swedish province of Scania. The first part of the studyprovides a thorough description of the traditional use and manufacturing of earthbricks based on relevant literature, archive material as well as interviews withinformants. This forms a basis for the second part of the study in which practicalexperiments on and tests with earth bricks where carried out. This involved themaking of traditional earth bricks of different composition. The new handmadebricks were compared with industrially produced bricks (extrusion bricks) and oldhandmade bricks.

Analysis of the piece Pygmalion in set at the Gothenburg City Theatrefrom a gender perspective with the purpose to investigate which genders that arepresented and how the piece relates to the heterosexual norm. The method consists inthe analysis and discussion of how the pieces portrays females and males (with focuson feminine and masculine coded expression and presentation of desire) and whatconsequences it brings. This based on various method books of norm-breaking designwork for Aesthetic staff, and a theory based on Judith Butler's research. Primarymaterial consists in a piece analysis of Pygmalion, from a spectator's perspective.Main Results: The designing is consciously working with a set of norm-breakinggender expression, particularly female genders. The set translates socially criticalviews against patriarchal hierarchies.

This degree project focuses on the importance of being professional doing a job at the same time as being able to express one self in a professional way. The degree project also focuses on how the work as an environmental- and health inspector could be made easier by making the inspectors aware of their language and open to change. Finally the focus of this degree project lies on how positive contacts can be made with people despite them being informed of difficult or unwanted things.In order to get an overview of the inspectors? communication skills today the environmental- and health inspectors at the environment office in Laholm´s municipality were evaluated. The inspectors´ communications styles and languages were checked on the basis of the ?nonviolent communication model? by Marshall Rosenberg.The content and the result of this report were presented for the head of the environment office, the chairman of the committee and the participating inspectors in Laholm´s municipality.

The aim of this study is to investigate ex-Jehovah's witnesses' experiences with accessibility in relation to sexual and reproductive health. The purpose is to build on the understanding of how closed Christian communities view the power over their own bodies in relation to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). The results are examined and analyzed through Foucault's ideas about power. The thesis is built upon an exploratory point of view, where the focus is to examine the experiences of former Jehovah's witnesses. The theoretical framework assumes that there are different types of power relations, specifically in the form of biopower, disciplinary power and governmentality. Through semi-structured interviews, six former members have been interviewed. The results indicate the complex relation between Jehovah's witnesses and several forms of power.

I denna uppsats undersöker jag ångplogars och motorplogars påverkan på det svenska jordbruket, med syftet att utröna om, och i så fall varför eller varför inte, motorplogar spreds snabbare än de tidigare ångplogarna. Detta bygger på en hypotes om att ångplogarna skulle ha kunnat bevisa värdet av mekaniserat jordbruk för de svenska bönderna, och därmed berett vägen för motorplogarna. Undersökningen utförs genom att analysera hur attityderna hos bönderna gentemot dessa maskiner, och jordbruksmekanisering överlag, förändras i två stora tidskrifter med lantbrukstema under perioden 1890-1920. Detta tar avstamp i en presentation av forskningsläget angående ångmaskinens inverkan på den industriella revolutionen, där jag visar att visar det industriella systemet för produktion var viktigare än någon teknologi.Resultatet som framkommer är att motorplogar inte spreds snabbare än ångplogar och alltså inte kan sägas ha berett vägen för motorplogar, att båda teknologierna hämmades av kostnadsmässiga problem och låg lämplighet för mindre gårdar, samt att det är troligare att motorplogar skulle ha berett vägen för traktorerna i o m deras snarlikhet med varandra..

The general pension supplement introduced in 1960 which introduced the public pension funds in Sweden. In the late 1990s the Swedish pension system was reformed and established the current structure. Today, funds are one of the most common forms of savings in Sweden and mutual funds are the most common type.The purpose of this study is to analyze the risk-adjusted returns for the AP funds in the period 2003-2009. Study was based on five funds that are most similar and have the same mission. These funds are AP1, AP2, AP3, AP4 and AP7.The method used in this study is mainly based on a survey of the figures and measurable units of statistical methods that have been carried out by a quantitative approach.

Industrisamhällets ekonomi har under de senaste åren blandats upp i en kunskaps- och kompetensekonomi, där humankapitalet fått allt större betydelse för företagens värdeskapande. Trots att kunskapsföretag i allt större utsträckning blivit medvetna om detta, finns ett problem med att presentera humankapitalet då det inte finns några lagar och rekommendationer inom området. Vårt syfte med uppsatsen är att beskriva för vem och hur kunskapsföretag presenterar och informerar om sitt humankapital i sin årsredovisning samt att förklara varför de går till väga på detta sätt. Vi vill lyfta fram två grundläggande teoretiska perspektiv där det ena förespråkar en restriktiv informationsgivning medan det andra förespråkar en öppen informationsgivning. Vi genomförde en fallstudie i fyra kunskapsföretag inom revisionsbranschen, som presenterar sitt humankapital i sin årsredovisning.
