The requirements of good quality and appetizing fast food increases continuously as a consequence of a community where food is always available. The crispiness of French fries is an issue that must be considered in this context, since it tends to decrease and give the fries a soft surface not appreciated by the consumer. To prolong the crispiness, the fries can be coated by a batter, a mix of starches. The batters used often consists of modified starches, e.g. cross-linked, acetylated and dextrinizated to increase and prolong crispiness, flour to stabilize the batter and sodium bicarbonate to make the batter ?rise?.The cross-linked starch keeps the granules in a swelled state and prevents them from breaking when exposed to heat or processing: therefore, it delays the gelatinization and decreases the stickiness of the batter.

The aim of this essay is to give the reader an idea of how the European agricultural policies have developed, in regard of sustainable development, since Sweden became a member in the union 1995. My research questions are:- How has the European environment- and agricultural politics changed since Swedenjoined the union in 1995?- What consequences have the changes had for ecological farming?The answers to the stated questions are that there have been several treaties in the field of environmental development of the agricultural policy, starting with the Maastricht treaty and ends up with the European Action Plan for Organic Food and Farming.

Patientens kunskap om parodontit före och efter icke kirurgisk parodontal behandling utförd av tandhygienist : En kvantitativ studie

Parodontit är en kronisk inflammatorisk sjukdom, som orsakas av patogena bakterier som fäster på tändernas ytor, där de bildar plack. Sjukdomen kan förebyggas genom god munhygien. Syftet med studien var att beskriva och jämföra parodontit relateradkunskap och dess relation till munhygiensvanor hos patienter före och 1-år efter icke kirurgisk parodontal behandling utförd av tandhygienist samt jämföra om det föreligger någon skillnad i kunskap efter behandling mellan två olika munhälsoundervisningsprogram. Ett ytterligare syfte var att beskriva om det föreligger någon skillnad i kunskap om parodontit med avseende på ålder, kön och utbildningsnivå. Studien var en beskrivande, jämförande studie med kvantitativ ansats och en del av en experimentell tvågruppsstudie.Urvalet bestod av 113 individer, 60 kvinnor och 53 män, i åldern 20-65 år som var remitteras till en specialistklinik i parodontologi.

Pigs in the wild spend 80% of their waking hours walking around and rooting for food, eating and exploring their environment with its snout. Fattening pigs in commercial farms spend 80% lying doing nothing. A lactating sow is lying down most of her day, and only 10-20% of the body surface is in contact with the floor, so the pressure is high on these spots. Piglets lie down and paddle with their legs, with high liquid content in the tissues, several times an hour, to stimulate and massage the sow's udder. In the existing system, these individuals are held more often on floors that are anything but inviting to sleep on.

Det har varit många debatter i den svenska media om sockerintag och forskning som visar att barn i dag äter mer godis, läsk, snacks och mindre av frukt och grönt. Syftet med uppsatsen är att undersöka några pedagogers syn på kosten och dess sockerhalt i synnerhet, och de pedagogiska måltiderna i allmänhet, vid en förskola. Vad har pedagoger för syn på hur en bra förebild ska vara vid de pedagogiska måltiderna? Jag gjorde kvalitativa intervjuer med sex pedagoger. Kosten har förändrats mycket och sockerintaget har minskat på förskolan under de år de har arbetat, anser pedagogerna. Pedagogerna kan inte påverka kosten men kan välja att ta bort vissa livsmedel på avdelningen som de anser inte är nyttiga.

Urban Agriculture in the Sustainable City -a case study in Managua is a Diploma Work that deal with poverty issues, aspects of sustainability and development work. We have had a theoretical starting-point, but our focus has been on the case study i.e. the practical part, that we carried out in Managua, the capital of Nicaragua. Today about half of the worlds 6,3 billion people live in cities. The demographic growth of the countryside has declined, while the population in the cities is considerably increasing.

The market for eco-labelled products has developed rapidly from the early nineties in Sweden. There is a full variety of environmentally friendly products on the market today, and perhaps organic food is the most popular alternative. Eco-clothes have not reached the same amount of success as other eco-labelled products on the Swedish market. In this essay I will discuss and analyze which factors that have influenced green consumers attitude and behavior towards eco clothing. Four interviews with green consumers in Karlstad have been done in order to explore consumers attitude and behavior.

This study was performed to investigate the bacteriological quality of French cheeses made from raw milk. Fifty cheeses of this type were purchased from Swedish retail premises. The methods described by the Nordic Committee on Food Analysis (NMKL) were used to determine the number of Enterobacteriaceae, presumptive Escherichia coli, coagulase positive staphylococci and Listeria monocytogenes. In 32 cheeses (64%) the number of bacteria mentioned above exceeded the determined maximum value. Thirty samples (60%) showed high counts of Enterobacteriaceae.

Syftet med studien var att undersöka distriktssköterskors följsamhet till basala hygienrutiner inom primärvården. Studien var baserad på strukturerade observationer och en enkät.
