This paper explores the accessibility for patrons with different physical disabilities in regards to materials, service, the library building and its website at two typical, medium-sized public libraries in Sweden.The case study is based on interviews, observations, and document and literature studies. As a theoretical framework for this study, Buckland?s model of information barriers is used to describe, discuss and evaluate how the two libraries work with accessibility. In addition, international and national guidelines are used to measure whether additional actions are required of the libraries to improve the accessibility.The results show that both libraries are well suited in various respects to provide for the different needs and the requirements of patrons with physical disabilities. Some obstacles still exist in both libraries, especially in the lack of literature in accessible formats in different languages.

The aim of this study is to explain and analyse political steering of public libraries in Swedish municipalities and the roles of politicians and administrators in this process. To fulfil this purpose five municipalities have been studied. It is argued that both politicians and administration have to be included in a study of steering and that the relation between politicians and administrators should be seen as an interplay. Planning and evaluation are discerned as the two main activities in the steering process. The material in this study consists mainly of information collected through interviews with library responsible politicians and library managers in all five municipalities.The results show that libraries are considered politically uncontroversial and that politicians see little need for political interference and steering.

The purpose of this thesis is to examine how acquisition of film for children and young adults in public libraries is carried out. The aim is to investigate why the librarians think a library should have film, if the librarians are bound by acquisition policies and where they retrieve information about films. We also want to know where the films are bought, how the distributors are perceived and how the librarians see their own sphere of competence. The thesis is a qualitative study and is based on interviews with children?s librarians in six public libraries.

Syftet med vÄr aktionsforskningsstudie Àr att se vilka möjligheter till samarbete matematiska uppgifter kan erbjuda i en utomhusmiljö. Detta gjorde vi genom att konstruera matematiska uppgifter som eleverna fick lösa pÄ skolgÄrden. Tidigare forskning tar upp positiva aspekter med att lÄta elever lösa matematiska uppgifter utomhus dÀr de ser matematiken i ett konkret sammanhang. Forskning poÀngterar Àven betydelsen av att lÀra sig tillsammans med andra genom att fÄ förklara sina tankar. Empiri samlades in genom observation och loggboksskrivande som sedan analyserades.

The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to accomplish an understanding for how librarians purchase fiction literature in public libraries. To answer these questions, we have performed four qualitative interviews with librarians in three Swedish municipalities. We have also performed a smaller document study to give us an overview of the used guidelines at the selected libraries. The results of our survey have been analyzed on the basis of our revised version of Sanna Talja?s model The Interpretative Repertoires of the Music Library.

Forskning har visat att uppgifter i prov inverkar pÄ vad elever lÀr sig genom deras förvÀntningar pÄ vad testet ska innehÄlla (Virta, 2004). Boesen (2006b) konstaterar att uppgifter i nationella prov pÄverkar lÀrares undervisning vilket indirekt ocksÄ bör inverka pÄ vad elever lÀr sig. Lithner (2008) menar att det finns risk att en elev som anvÀnder ett imitativt resonemang i alltför hög grad vid lösning av matematikuppgifter fÄr sÀmre matematikkunskaper. Genom att som lÀrare förse eleven med uppgifter som krÀver ett kreativt resonemang, i vilka det inte Àr möjligt för eleven att anvÀnda ett imitativt resonemang, bör en sÄdan utveckling hindras. Syftet med detta examensarbete Àr att med ett klassificeringsverktyg tidigare anvÀnt av bland andra Boesen, Lithner och Palm (2005) och Bergqvist (2007) undersöka alla 85 matematikuppgifter i PISA 2003 med avseende pÄ vilken grad av matematiskt kreativt resonemang som krÀvs för att lösa dem.

Matematikundervisningen behöver utvecklas för att stÀrka svenska elevers kunskaper och samtidigt bryta trenden av nedÄtgÄende resultat. Examensarbetet ger förslag pÄ uppgifter som stödjer och utvecklar samtliga elevers matematiska förmÄga. The aim of this study is to look closer at collection development and the use of collection development policies in Swedish public libraries, with the help of a few examples. Through interviews with three librarians in three different public libraries and an analysis of these libraries? collection development policies, the authors try to find out how the creation of collection development policies takes place in these libraries, how these librarians use the policy, how these policies have been followed up and revised, and also to see what the policies of these libraries include. The material of the study suggests that a lot of work is required to write the policies, and that the written policy itself is seldom used by the librarians. The interviewed librarians still find the policies useful because the writing of them gave a detailed understanding of what the collection of the library contains.

The purpose of this paper is to study the ongoing discussion concerning e-books at Swedish public libraries. The e-booksituation has as of late gained a lot attention in the media. The main distributor of e-book in Sweden - Elib - is in the centreof this discussion and our goal has been to study the opinions and arguments that have been expressed within articles and blog postsconcerning the situation.We have analysed our articles and blog posts through a qualitative text analysis in order to find the main problems of the e-bookdiscussion and which arguments are used. We have also studied the effect Elib might have on the libraries' collection developmentaccording to the articles and blog posts.We found that the major issues within the e-book situation include Elib's price model - which is costly for the libraries - thewatermarking and the selection of books available to the libraries. It is also considered, according to the author's of our articles and blog posts, that the collections at the libraries are affected byElib's system since the choice of which books to include is given to the publishers, not the libraries or its users.The articles and blog posts agree that a change needs to occur for the e-books future survival at the public libraries..

Syftet med vÄr undersökning var att beskriva elevernas upplevelser av matematik med avseende pÄ Älder, intresse, förstÄelse samt pedagogens kunskap om elevernas förstÄelse. Försökspersonerna omfattade totalt 40 elever och 40 pedagoger som representerade Är 3, 6, 9 pÄ grundskolan samt Är 3 pÄ gymnasieskolan. EnkÀterna utformades med nivÄanpassade uppgifter. Resultatet visade att grundskolans pedagoger har kunskap om att eleverna tycker att abstrakt matematik Àr svÄr. DÀremot visste inte pedagogerna pÄ gymnasiet att deras elever upplever det konkreta som svÄrt.

The purpose of this Master?s thesis is to investigate issues concerning librarians? view on three genres, (a) popular literature for women, (b) popular literature for men and (c) erotic literature, when choosing what to buy for their libraries. A qualitative method has been used and the empery consists of seven qualitative interviews with altogether eight librarians involved in choosing and buying literature. The theoretical framework is built on theories regarding concepts of hegemony and cultural hegemony; the male sex as norm; taste culture and quality. The results show that three of the libraries in the study have a written purchase policy and that the policies that exist are very general.

Despite ongoing efforts toward equality, persistent wage gaps between men and women in Sweden still remain, particularly within male dominated industries, such as finance. Gender equality is a prominent topic in public discourse, yet progress towards achieving equal pay between men and women continues to be slow. This study aims to contribute to the research area and offers a unique perspective by examining gender related expectations from both men and women, managers and employees. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether, and if so how, gender related expectations influence salary setting processes in the financial industry. Through a qualitative study based on semistructured interviews, the study explores how both employee?s and manager?s gender related expectations affect attitudes, salary negotiations and potential outcomes of salary setting.

The aim of this Masters thesis is to examine public library and information technology IT discourses to see which relationships are established between them in four library journals. This is done in two steps, where first discourses are defined followed by an analysis of the relationships established between the public library and IT in each discourse. The questions from which the analysis emanates are as follows: What discourses exist around the public library and IT in the library journals? What conceptions of the tasks of the public library are constructed in the discourses? What conceptions of the tasks of IT are constructed in the discourses? What conceptions of the relationships between the public library and IT are constructed in the discourses? The theoretical and methodological starting-points are found in Ernesto Laclaus and Chantal Mouffes discourse theory. 37 articles from four library journals Biblioteksbladet, Bibliotek i SamhÀlle, DIK-forum and Ikoner - are analysed through a model in five phases.

Denna uppsats syftar till att se hur Nacka kommun styr sina bibliotek i offentlig och privat regi och om det finns en skillnad i synsÀttet pÄ bibliotekets samhÀllsuppdrag mellan biblioteken som pÄverkar hur dessa tolkar och implementerar de krav som kommunen stÀller. En förstudie gjordes i form av en observation pÄ respektive bibliotek samt intervju med en ombudsman och en utredare för facket DIK för att fÄ större inblick i Àmnet. Intervjuer med respondenter frÄn ett bibliotek som drivs i privat regi och ett offentligt bibliotek genomfördes samt en intervju med en utvÀrderingsexpert hos Nacka kommun. Informationen frÄn dessa intervjuer analyserades sedan efter de utvalda organisationsteorier som valts ut efter uppsatsens syfte. Resultatet av analysen visade pÄ en skillnad i synsÀttet hos respektive bibliotek bÄde pÄ ett organisatoriskt plan och i det utbud bibliotek erbjuder till medborgarna.
