The purpose of this master?s thesis is to investigate children?s access to specific children?s activities at Swedish public libraries 2005. The thesis is based on literature studies and qualitative interviews with children?s librarians, library directors and local politicians at two demographically different libraries in Gothenburg.The sub questions are: What measures exist to promote children?s access to public libraries and children?s activities when it comes to: law and other political statements: different efforts on the state level and different efforts on the municipal level in the direct activity with children at public libraries? What driving forces and needs justify activities for children at public libraries? How will the responsible persons judge that the efforts are sufficient? The result of the study shows that children?s access to library activity has increased in the last couple of years due to reorganization, economic savings with closing down of library affiliates and because libraries have given priority to other things, like IT and new media. Children?s librarians have got new assignments and less time for children?s activity.The conclusion of our investigation is that children?s librarians are ambitious in their work, but unfortunately don?t give children?s library activity adequate resources.

Samtidigt betraktar professionsforskningen traditionellt kommersiella va?rderingar som motstridiga professionella va?rderingar, vilka inom forskningen fo?rutsa?tts fo?r att revisorerna ska kunna tillhandaha?lla samha?llet med tillfo?rligtlig information.

The purpose of this Master?s thesis is to investigate the library needs of fourteen-to-fifteen-year-olds. We have limited the investigation to the significance of libraries for the teenagers in their leisure time. Our focus is the public library with a particular reference to the plans for a new local public library with a youth profile in Malmö. With a departure point in the idea that young people?s use and view of libraries is to a large extent depending on factors such as social and cultural background and lifestyle, we chose to do a qualitative interview study with eight teenagers.

The purpose of this Master?s thesis is to investigate how librarians solve difficult reference questions. The aim is to discuss the nature of reference work ? do librarians make conscious decisions regarding search strategies or do they rely principally on their instincts, or simply chance. The thesis is a qualitative study.

Syftet med denna undersökning är att få en inblick i om och hur förlusten av sockenkyrkan påverkade livet i Nedertorneå-Haparanda församling socialt samt religiöst och i så fall hur eventuella förändringar yttrade sig när de efter kriget 1809 förlorade hemkyrkan på Björkön-Pirkkiö till Ryssland. Församlingskyrkan blev efter gränsdragningen kvar på ryskt område. Eftersom kyrkan ansvarade för ett flertal nuvarande statliga uppgifter under denna tid, har jag funderat på hur undervisning, fattigvård samt sjukvård fungerade utan kyrka och prästerskap. Hur förrättningar och gudstjänster fungerade i en sådan komplex situation är ytterligare faktorer jag studerat närmare.För att ta reda på hur det förhöll sig med detta under den här tidsperioden har jag ägnat mig åt litteraturstudium; vilket till största delen varit av historisk karaktär. Det har rört sig om kyrkohistoria, studium av samhällsutveckling, samt allmän global och lokal historia.Utifrån det samlade materialet har jag kommit fram till att livet påverkades ur flera aspekter för invånarna i Nedertorneå-Haparanda församling när de förlorade sockenkyrkan 1809.

The purpose of this master?s thesis is to examine what needs and expectations the patrons have on the local public library services for adult students. With increased knowledge of these matters the library will be able to support and improve the service for users. The focus is on adult students with immigrant background who study Swedish as second language in a municipal adult education school. The main questions are: How do adult students use the library at present? What do they consider to be most important when using the public library for their studies? How do these expectations correspond to their experience of the library services? Two focusgroups and one in-depth interview were carried out.

Local history collections are fairly common among the Swedish public libraries and these collections often contain older or rare material. There are no national policies concerning the preservation of rare books at the public libraries, and the librarians of public libraries may lack that knowledge. The aim of this study is to examine librarians? attitudes toward their libraries? local history collections. We interviewed five librarians in the county of Västra Götaland and also made a small observation study of their local history collections.

Arbetsdesign definieras som en medveten planering av arbetsuppgifter, innehåll och struktur för att nå organisatoriska mål. Den här undersökningen handlar om samband mellan arbetsdesign och motivation. Bakgrunden till vår undersökning är att utreda ett motsatsförhållande mellan två arbetsdesignteorier, där den ena förespråkar en arbetsdesign med variation av färdigheter medan den andra förespråkar en arbetsdesign med specialisering av arbetsprocessen.I undersökningen genomfördes en intervju samt ett enkätutskick. Resultatet av undersökningen visade att det fanns ett samband mellan specialisering och inre motivation, därtill även att det fanns ett samband mellan varierande färdigheter samt uppgifter och inre motivation.  Dessutom indikerade undersökningen att det finns ett positivt starkare samband mellan specialisering och inre motivation jämfört med sambandet mellan varierande uppgifter och inre motivation. Sambandet mellan varierande färdigheter och inre motivation var dock något starkare än sambandet mellan specialisering och inre motivation.  Ett intressant resultat i undersökningen var att arbetsdesignfaktorerna specialisering och varierande färdigheter samt uppgifter kunde samexistera..

I detta arbete undersöks vilka kompetenser som testas i lärargjorda matematikprov i gymnasieskolan. Studien är gjord inom Matematik A, eftersom den nya kursplanen kom ut sommaren 2011 och de flesta lärarna har inte hunnit göra något prov inom Matematik 1 som den nya kursen heter. De kompetenser som används i denna studie är beskrivna av Palm, Bergqvist, Eriksson, Hellström och Häggström (2004). Studien är helt byggd på analys av proven från kompetenserna, vilket betyder att inga intervjuer, enkäter eller annat har gjorts. Först löstes alla uppgifter för att få en förståelse i vad uppgifterna testar.

The aim of this Master?s thesis is to examine how librarians in two Swedish public libraries view the subject of face-front marketing and literary hierarchy. The questions posed in this thesis are: How do two public libraries in Sweden market fictional literature? Which literature does get marketed? How do the librarians view fictional literature? How do the librarians view marketing? and Does Herbert Gans? literary scale work to examine the marketing of fictional literature in two Swedish public libraries? The theoretical starting-points are Niels Ole Pors? thoughts on stock development, Philip Kotler?s thoughts on the responsible non-profit organisation and Herbert Gans? thoughts on taste-publics and taste-cultures. The empirical material was gathered through qualitative interviews with library staff in two public libraries in the south of Sweden, and by reading a sample of the fictional literature exposed in these libraries.

Internet access has been a part of the range in public libraries for approximately a decade. The Swedish municipals, in charge of the public libraries, and the libraries themselves, have a great deal of saying in how they should be run, what to offer the public, how many hours they have to stay open etcetera. The Library law is very vague on many things, including public Internet access. Even though Sweden is ranked as first runner up worldwide when it comes to Internet penetration among the population (Internet World Stats 2007), approximately twenty percent in the 16-74 age group does not have Internet access at home, at work or at school (SCB 2006a). In this master thesis we try to determine, through personal interviews, how six of those in charge feel about Internet at their libraries, all located in medium-sized municipals (20 000 ? 40 000 inhabitants), why they have chosen the rules and regulations they have and their thoughts about what they consider to be the most important assignment of public libraries.

The aim of this thesis is to investigate how the indexing of fiction for adults looks like in the public libraries that don?t buy indexed records for fiction from Bibliotekstjänst (BTJ). The questions that I want these libraries to answer is: - Public libraries that index fiction for adults themselves: 1. What tools do they use when indexing?, 2.

The public library´s overall purpose and legitimacy is analways relevant subject for discussion in Library andInformation Science and in public debate on libraries.Libraries are a part of a bigger societal context and are thusinevitably influenced by societal changes. In this thesis wehave studied different roles and functions of the publiclibrary, as seen from documents published by one specificpublic library in Malmö - Garaget. As basis we have usedan analysis model of the library in the knowledge andexperience society made by Jochumsen, HvenegaaardRasmussen och Skot-Hansen (2010). Our purpose has beento examine which ideas and notions on the functions of thepublic library that can be found in Garaget?s documents andin the model ? and to discuss them from a discoursive pointof view.

I denna uppsats undersöker jag i vilken utsträckning som matematik-böcker i grundskolans senare år innehåller räkneuppgifter som förutsätter språkliga eller kulturella kunskaper som andraspråkselever inte nödvändigtvis besitter. Utifrån tidigare forskning om matematik ur ett andraspråksperspektiv redogörs för de svårigheter utöver de rent matematiska som andraspråkselever kan möta i matematikuppgifter.Undersökningen består av en analys av räkneuppgifterna i en matematikbok, samt en elevenkät där ett antal av dessa uppgifter testas. Analysen visar att uppgifter innehållande svårigheter andra än matematiska är relativt vanligt förekommande i matematikboken. Resultatet från elevenkäten visar sedan att dessa uppgifter verkligen kan vålla problem för andraspråkselever. Slutsatsen blir att andraspråks-elever har långt ifrån bara matematik att kämpa med när de arbetar i matematikboken.

The main purpose of this thesis is to examine the process of selecting films at Bibliotekstjänst and at Swedish public libraries. The tools that have been used for analysing and interpreting the results from the interviews and the questionnaire are theory-based models describing the selection process concerning film and Carl Gustav Johannsen?s quality definitions. The result of the investigation shows that Bibliotekstjänst doesn?t really work with any quality definitions in their selection process.
