Det finns stora skillnaderna mellan västvärldens trädgårdstradition och den japanska trädgårdskonsten med sin starka koppling till religion, filosofi och den japanska kulturen. Det gör det komplicerat när vi vill hämta inspiration och applicera den japanska trädgårdskonsten i Sverige. Detta arbete behandlar när och hur den japanska trädgårdskonsten introducerades i Sverige. Arbetet visar också exempel på hur några olika trädgårdsarkiteketer förhållit sig till, inspirerats av och applicerat den japanska trädgårdskonsten vid gestaltning av trädgårdsrum i södra Sverige. Ett avsnitt i arbetet berör särskilt hur Ulla Molin inspirerats av den japanska trädgårds konsten. Hennes betydelse för spridandet av kunskap om den japanska trädgårdskonsten i Sverige betonas också. Litteraturstudier har kompletterats med platsstudier och intervjuer. Platsstudier har genomförts i 6 olika japanskinspirerade trädgårdar i södra Sverige.

Abstract: The aim of this study is to investigate the attitudes towards the labour movement?s strategies, goals and organisational issues in Swedish Miners? Union?s (Gruvindustriarbetareförbundet, hereafter Gruv) paper, Gruvarbetaren 1917-1925.The theoretical starting point is Engels? view on the class state. This perspective turns the question of socialism and the way to get there into an issue of working class power over the state. Another theoretical perspective is the partition of the labour movement into a trade-unionistic branch, seeing unions as financial organisations of interest, and a pro-state one, considering unions as political organisations.During the period investigated Gruvarbetaren was quite radical and advocated a firm class struggle strategy towards employers. Since these were considered unreliable, class struggle was seen as the only way to better the conditions for the working class.

The purpose of this Bachelor's thesis is to study the reasoning behind classification, cataloging and shelf arrangement of nonfiction graphic novels in public libraries. The aim was to examine which aspects of accessibility influence in which collection nonfiction graphic novels are placed.With qualitative semi-structured interviews we learned how six librarians motivated their choices concerning nonfiction graphic novels. We also interviewed a cataloger from Bibliotekstjänst to examine how nonfiction graphic novels are classified. In our analysis we compared our results to theories and practices concerning alternative shelf arrangements in libraries and legitimization of graphic novels. We found three types of shelf arrangements for nonfiction graphic novels: graphic novel shelf, nonfiction classification code and a mix of the two.

The purpose of this Master's thesis is to investigate the role of the public library when the local government in the municipality arranges distance education at university level. The thesis has two main areas of questioning and these are goals and resources. In the study it is examined if the local goals have changed during the period 2000 until 2005, due to the development of distance education. It is investigated if change actually has occurred and if it has, in what way the goals have changed. It is also examined if and how the goals correspond with the work that is being performed in the public library.

The aim of this Bachelor?s thesis is to investigate the public librarian?s professional identity and its relation to the public library as an experience centre. The development of the library as an experience centre raises questions about how public librarians understand their professional identity, and about their motives for working with activities like workshops and qigong, activities that have no significant connection with the librarian?s traditional tasks. The data was collected via semi-structured interviews exploring the perspectives and points of view of four public librarians.

Då hunden har blivit en allt större del i människans liv och är en växande målgrupp, vill vi undersöka hur svenska hundägare ser på att resa med sin hund inom Sverige, speciellt vad de har för åsikter om hundvänliga hotell.Den data vi har samlat in är från en enkätundersökning gjord på 522 hundägare i Sverige. Vårt huvudsakliga mål med denna studie är att se om det finns en marknad för fler hundvänliga hotell i Sverige och hur kommunikationen mellan hotellen och hundägarna fungerar. Vi tror att hotellen kan dra nytta av resultatet från denna studie.Resultatet visar på att det finns ett behov av fler hundvänliga hotell i Sverige. Dock verkar det största problemet ligga i kommunikationen mellan hotellen och hundägarna. Eftersom hundägarna känner att det finns en brist i informationen, om vilka hotell som tillåter hundar.

This thesis investigates the situation for comics in Swedish public libraries. The main questions is separated into two groups, the first dealing with the physical situation were we investigate placement, cataloguing and shelf arrangement. The second deals with the librarians attitudes towards comics and how they may affect their work. The base for this thesis is the idea that the comic medium may sometimes be treated different than the rest of the libraries collections. Because of this, a theoretical basis is developed which focus on different views on comics.

Brist på vardaglig regelbunden fysisk aktivitet, psykisk ohälsa och brist på socialt stöd är allt vanligare folkhälsoproblem i åldrarna 16-84. Forskningen kring sällskapsdjurs främjande effekter i Sverige är knapp även om Sverige är ett sällskapsdjurstätt land. Syftet med litteraturstudien var att beskriva vilka hälsofrämjande effekter sällskapsdjur har på individers hälsa. Nitton vetenskapliga artiklar inkluderades i studien och analyserades med hjälp av manifest innehållsanalys.

This bachelor's thesis is an investigation into the public libraries'actions following the debate of Stina Wirséns character LillaHjärtat, featured in picture books and films for young children.The character was accused of being racist, due to its similarity tostereotypes such as pickaninnies. Because of this, the books'existence in public libraries was questioned.The purpose of this study is to investigate how librarians havedealt with these books, and what they have based their decisionson. To explore the background of these decisions we have usedPatrick Wilson's theory of cognitive authority (1983). We haveexamined which cognitive authorities have been used in thedecision-making process of how to handle the books containingLilla Hjärtat, and why these cognitive authorities have beenchosen. The method used in the study is qualitative interviewswith seven librarians working in public libraries throughoutSweden.The results of the interviews show that the librarians? mostprominent cognitive authorities have been authors and illustratorsof children's books.

The aim with this master thesis is to study which ambitions and strategic aims Gothenburg?s district libraries have regarding their music sections. I have utilized my theory from Sanna Talja, a Finnish researcher in Library and Information Science. She identifies three perspectives in maintaining a music library. She calls them, general education, alternative and demand.

The aim of this Master?s Thesis is to examine the importance of literacy and reading in a country like Jamaica. What role do public libraries and bookmobiles play in promoting literacy, and how does this work correspond with the UNESCO public library manifesto?To answer this, interviews were conducted with nine Jamaican librarians, and study visits were made to libraries and bookmobiles. In addition, development plans, policy and other relevant documents were analyzed.

Det allra mest kända släktet inom familjen Taxaceae är Taxus, men förutom den finns även flera andra mindre kända släkten. De flesta arterna inom dessa släkten är sällsynta i Sverige och väldigt lite information finns om dem på svenska. I detta arbete beskrivs växternas morfologi och deras geografiska utbredningsområden tas upp. Genom jämförelser av klimattabeller samt zonangivelser som står i olika litteraturer ges förslag om hur dessa arter skulle kunna användas i Sverige. En utav arterna, Austrotaxus spicata, passar bäst som rumsväxt på grund av sitt sydliga utbredningsområde i Nya Kaledonien, andra arter som Torreya jackii bör kanske inte stå kallare än i ett inglasat uterum, medan Pseudotaxus chienii med sina sagolika vita arillusar borde provodlas på friland i skyddade lägen eftersom den odlas i Holland, kanske är den också odlingsbar i Sverige. Provodlingar bör göras på samtliga arter som inte växer i Sverige så att en riktig härdighetsbedömning ska kunna göras..

The new Library Act came in force in January 2014, external changes such as globalization and information technologies had changes the way libraries work and the new law aimed to reflect this. The aim of this study is to examine ideas surrounding the mission of the public library as it appears in the referral statements that three state agencies and three interest organizations gave to the ministry publications series Ds 2012:13. The questions this thesis examines are: what ideas can be discerned in the respond-ents' opinion regarding public library's mission? How is the con-sultation bodies? way of looking at public library's mission to-wards the government's approach? In this thesis the empirical ma-terial has been analyzed using a theoretical model called The four spaces ? a new model for the public library designed by Casper Hvenegaard Rasmussen, Henrik Jochumsen and Dorte Skot-Hansen. The model consists of four different goals and four differ-ent spaces and can be used as a basis for discussions about the public libraries role in society.

The focus of this work is to study whether public libraries should offer their patrons unlimited access to the Internet, or restrict which sites they can visit. The most common tool used to limit Internet access is filtering software. The author has administered four interviews with public librarians working in libraries in Southern Sweden. All four librarians had different opinions about restricting Internet access. The most important question asked was if they had chosen to use filtering, and the reasons for their decision.

The research of this Masters thesis examines if during a specific period of time, Environmental scanning connected to Swedish public libraries is discussed in journals that are directly connected to the field of Swedish libraries. The method employed was content analysis of articles, news items and ads with the intention of finding out the extent of Environmental scanning and who carries it out and how and what is scanned. The research covers the period from 2004-01-01 to 2004-08-31. During the research period 1387 articles, news items and ads were analyzed. The study focuses on 81 selected published units that directly include references or discussion about Environmental scanning.
