For several years Uppsala University together with several companies has been involved in a WISENET project aimed at improving railway transport security. By placing a sensor system near the wheels of each wagon, the temperature of the bearings can be measured and transmitted to a collector placed centrally on the wagon. This in turn transmits the collected data to RFID receivers placed intermittently along the railway.As the signals are transmitted wirelessly, problems may occur as the antennas get dirty or coated with ice and snow. To determine the effects of these coatings, several tests were performed examining the reflection coefficient S11, the impedance Z11 and the efficiency eta of an antenna, and how they varied when various coatings were placed over the antenna. Examined coatings were ice, snow and water to determine the effects of weather, and various metal-based coatings: powdered iron both pure and partially oxidized, and iron ore granules.

A unified model of stress and affect consciousness was proposed. The connection between affect consciousness and perceived stress was studied. Teachers (n = 19) were interviewed using Monsens affect interview, followed one month later by a questionnaire containing Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI-S, STAI-T) and Twenty Item Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20).Statistical analysis showed no connections between level of total affect consciousness and perceived stress. Though there were some indications of a negative relationship between affect consciousness and trait anxiety. There were also indications, using a complementary analysis, of a connection between level of affect consciousness on the subscale distress in the interview and perceived stress.

Denna studie undersökte representativiteten avseende nämndemännens i Linköpings tingsrätts domsaga demografi; nämndemäns attityder till rättsliga frågor; samt om dessa nämndemäns demografi och attityder kan predicera individuella beslut i konstruerade rättsfall. Dessutom undersöktes vad som styr nämndemäns autonoma beslut respektive hur rättens enade beslut fattas under överläggningar. Resultaten visade att nämndemän inte var representativa för allmänheten avseende ålder eller emotionellt relaterade attityder till rättsliga frågor, men att varken ålder eller attityder till rättsliga frågor kunde predicera beslutsbeteende i manipulerade rättsfall. Inflytande över nämndemännens beslut går att beskriva i medierande och modererande faktorer i en modell över beslutsprocessen. Implikationer för fortsatt forskning inom området rättsprocessens psykologi diskuteras..

Syftet med denna studie var att få bättre förståelse för hur datoranvändare organiserar filer och att få ökad förståelse för vilka vägar datoranvändare väljer för att komma åt filer i ett datorsystem designat efter skrivbordsmetaforen. Resultatet tolkas utifrån aktivitetsteori och distribuerad kognition samt tidigare forskning. Halvstrukturerade intervjuer gjordes med 18 datoranvändare i den ordinarie arbetsmiljön. Utöver att svara på frågor fick de också visa och förklara hur de organiserat sina filer samt hur de gick tillväga när de använde dem.Resultatet pekar på en betydande ökning i användning av datorns skrivbord jämfört med tidigare studier. Två typer av lagrad information kunde identifieras, temporär och långvarig.

Personalarbetet har förändrats mycket de senaste åren, det har orsakat att delar av organisationerna inte följt med i denna förändring. Yrkesrollen var förr mer omsorgsinriktad och fokuserade mer på medarbetarna men idag innehåller yrkesrollen mer ett affärstänk samt har ett arbetsgivarfokus. Syftet med studien var att få en ökad förståelse för vilka utmaningar HR-arbetare möter i sin yrkesroll när de ska tillgodose ledningens direktiv och medarbetarnas behov. Om det finns några utmaningar, vad de i så fall innebär och hur HR-arbetare lyckas hantera dessa utmaningar. Sex personer från olika privata företag i Stockholms län intervjuades, materialet transkriberades och analyserades tematiskt.

This study investigated the relation between Extraversion and Conscientiousness with job satisfaction and job selection in the two occupational groups of telemarketing and administration. The study also set out to explore the relation between social desirability as assessed with an Implicit Association Test (IAT) and total reaction time on the IAT. The questionnaire was administered over the Internet to forty-one subjects (24 women and 17 men) in the age range 16-65. Results indicated that people working with telemarketing tend to be extrovert while people working with administration often are conscientious. Job satisfaction correlated with Extraversion in the telemarketing group.

The purpose of this study was to examine young persons' experiences of life with ADHD. Semi structured interviews were done with four boys age 14-18 years, diagnosed with ADHD. The interviews followed a guide that consisted of themes with questions. The themes examined were: diagnosis, school, home, social and personal issues and how these themes are connected to ADHD. The results indicate that it is hard to live with ADHD.

Results have shown that flow batteries may be a solution in the future as an effective and environmental friendly method to an energy storage system (ESS). The technology is reliable and has a high efficiency that comes with low energy losses and a long lifetime. The range of possible fields is suitable for cutting energy peaks in the power grid, by always have a ready and available energy storage that balances the production. By comparing the advantages of flow batteries with conventional batteries it is mainly the fact that they can conserve energy for a long time without being self-discharged thanks to that the storage capacity is in principle endless and limited by the size of the electrolytes tanks that makes them a great energy storage system. The batteries won?t take any damage or decrease in performance when charging or discharging it or if you exhausts it to 100 % and leave it discharged for a long time.

Traditionellt har det antagits att användning och förståelse av spatiala prepositioner i första hand sker utifrån geometriska kriterier. Senare studier har visat att prepositioner också påverkas dels av huruvida de spatialt relaterade objekten också är funktionellt relaterade eller inte och dels av den visuella miljö som objekten utgör en del av. Dessa faktorer påverkar valet av perspektiv utifrån vilket prepositioner tillskrivs spatiala relationer, samt användning och förståelse av dem i situationer då de enbart kan tillskrivas utifrån ett perspektiv. Detta arbete undersöker experimentellt hur dessa två faktorer påverkar användning och perspektivtagande vid användning av de projektiva prepositionerna ovanför, nedanför, framför, bakom och bredvid. Resultaten visar att en funktionell relation mellan de spatialt relaterade föremålen och tillgången till en visuell miljö ökar benägenheten att använda prepositionerna utifrån ett perspektiv som utgår från föremålens egna orienteringar.

In an organizational change process, motivated employees are considered an asset. Work motivation can both be seen as situational and as a stable individual characteristic. The present study attempts to investigate how the employees at the Social Insurance Office in Scania experience the present organizational change by focusing on work motivation and well-being. Both questionnaires and interviews were adopted to examine the area of interest. Findings indicate that the organizational change is considered chaotic but necessary by the employees.

I denna rapport behandlas en strategi för systemutveckling som kallas för evolutionär prototyping. Evolutionär prototyping innebär att utveckla system i inkrementella bitar där system får växa till ett driftsystem för vidare evolution. Det finns också andra former av prototyping som explorativ, experimentell och kooperativ prototyping där prototyperna kastas bort och ett nytt system konstrueras. Många metodologier finns för att stödja processen att utveckla informationssystem. På grund av tillgången till CASE-verktyg och fjärde generationens utvecklingsverktyg har evolutionär prototyping blivit allt mer populärt i praktiken.

The aim of this study is to describe a group of youths in compulsory care at a SiS institution in the south of Sweden. The study focuses on intelligence (measured with WISC-III) and self-report, i. e. what the youths think of themselves (measured with Jag tycker jag är). Attempts were made to see if background factors (based on information from the standardized ADAD-interview) seem to be coherent with intelligence and/or self-report and if so, what those background factors are.

Ett psykologiskt kontrakt hos en nyanställd börjar bildas i interaktionsprocessen vid den första anställningsintervjun. Ibland tidigare, redan vid en perception av kommunikation från företaget om hur detta är som arbetsgivare. Den subjektiva upplevelsen av löften mellan arbetsgivare och arbetstagare utgör det psykologiska kontraktet. IT-avdelningar växer som en viktig funktion på moderna företag och denna undersökning syftade till att genom intervjuer undersöka frågan om hur det psykologiska kontraktet bildas hos IT-anställda. Fem nyanställda på ett reseföretag i Sverige intervjuades för studien.

This thesis approaches the problem of estimating the arm angles of an industrial robot with flexibilities in joints and links. Due to cost-cutting efforts in the industrial robots industry, weaker components and more cost-effective structures have been introduced which in turn has led to problems with flexibilities, nonlinearities and friction. In order to handle these challenging dynamic problems and achieve high accuracy this study introduces state observers to estimate the tool position.The observers use measurements of the motor angles and an accelerometer and the different evaluated observers are based on an Extended Kalman Filter and a deterministic variant. They have been evaluated in experiments on an industrial robot with two degrees of freedom. The experimental verification shows that the state estimates can be highly accurate for medium frequency motions, ranging from 3-30Hz.

This study views literary authors as brands and their books as products. The essay examines if different marketing activities will influence attitudes and intentions towards these brands, depending on how famous the author is and how much knowledge the consumer possess about the product category. The theory, which the hypotheses are based upon, mainly consists of research about culture, brands, attitudes and intentions. The study is quantitative and has an experimental design consisting of different written scenarios. These scenarios are based on background information about a fictive fiction author and type of marketing campaign.
