En grupp ungdomar i tvångsvård

bakgrund, begåvning och självbild

The aim of this study is to describe a group of youths in compulsory care at a SiS institution in the south of Sweden. The study focuses on intelligence (measured with WISC-III) and self-report, i. e. what the youths think of themselves (measured with Jag tycker jag är). Attempts were made to see if background factors (based on information from the standardized ADAD-interview) seem to be coherent with intelligence and/or self-report and if so, what those background factors are. The study also compares boys and girls. The results on WISC-III are generally low or very low and the results on Jag tycker jag är are average for boys and below average for girls. The results show no gender differences in intelligence, but in self-report, girls report significantly poorer than boys. The ADAD-variable school problems seem to interact with intelligence and the ADAD-variables foster care, physical/mental abuse, attitude towards school, mental and emotional problems and symptoms of mental illness seem to influence self-report.
