Landet lagom och dess "lagomläromedel" : Om jämställdhet och genus i grundskolans läroplaner och läromedel från olika årtionden

The purpose of this study is to examine two educational materials from different decades, to see if they have a conscious gender and Equality perspective, and to see if they have followed the development society made regarding gender and Equality. Even the curricula have a part in my study as I will relate them to the educational materials. Equality as a concept means briefly that women and men should have the same conditions, and gender depicts our notions of femininity and masculinity.I have chosen to do textual analyses, focusing on multimodal discourse because I analyze both text and image. I also use both quantitative and qualitative methods.My questions are: In which way do the curricula and the educational materials express Equality?; In which way do the curricula and the educational materials express gender?; Do the educational materials express the fundamental values written about Equality and gender in the curricula? And, if this is the case, does it mean that educational materials have followed the development of the Swedish society?The conclusion of this work is that Equality and gender are presented as goals in both curricula, but the new curricula have developed that section more.

Från Khatami till Ahmadinejad : A study of political equality and democracy in Iran

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to examine the current situation as regarding the political Equality in Iran. The method of this reaserch is based on a single-case studie wich grounds in secondary sources. The analysis of this paper is based on fields that concern political Equality which in this study will focus on the right to vote, candidacies in the parliament election 2004 and the presidential election 2005. A democracy theory by Jack Lively is used to analyze the political Equality in Iran´s political system.The Iranian regim is strongly criticized by the goverments in the Western world and NGO´s for the situation of the democracy and the human rights in the country. Despite the criticism, Iran still continues in the same political direction, although the democracy has gained a stronger role in the political sphere.

Lärarnas synpunkter på genus och jämställdhet i skolan : Hur lärarkåren inom skolväsendet arbetar med könsfrågor såsom genus och jämställdhet i skolan

The aim of this study was to examine how the interviewed teachers in one school observe their view of gender and Equality regarding the educational system.  Accordingly, I would like to present my intention with this study, also be to analyze how the interviewed teachers way of working with matters of gender and Equality, carry out as a portrait of their values considering the distribution in terms of gender. The research questions are the following: What is the teachers view on the concepts of Equality and gender in school?How do different teachers talk about their way of working in relation to gender and Equality in school?How is boys and girls images presented in the teachers descriptions in their discussion about gender and Equality?This study is based on a fundamental qualitative method, where a handful number of teacher?s from one school were interviewed in order to obtain information and data for the examination. The interviews were analyzed and discussed in association to earlier research in aspiration to study different writer?s theories about the conception of gender and Equality.

Jämställdhet, jämlikhet, olikhet : kunskap om skolans jämställdhetsarbete

This essay is about gender Equality in a Swedish upper secondary school. The aim is twofold: to obtain knowledge about feminism, gender Equality, boys´ and girls´ situations in schools and gender Equality work there; and to find out if government management documents for schools work effectively when it comes to promoting gender Equality in schools. There are four research questions: How do teachers interpret what´s said in management documents for schools? What strategies do teachers use to promote gender Equality? What opportunities and obstacles do teachers see for promoting gender Equality at the specific school? And, finally, do the management documents for the school work effectively when it comes to promoting gender Equality?The study has a socialist feminist perspective, which sees gender differences as a result of a mix of biological, historical and social factors. Important theoretical standpoints include gender socialization as an explanation for how girls and boys become women and men.The results of the study points out that teachers interpret management documents differently, and that they find the documents hard to understand.

Jämställdhetens olika världar : Jämställdheten på ett företag och i det internationella arbetet

The purpose of the essay is to examine how issues concerning gender Equality are perceived and to show what areas are defined as problematic in different discourses. It also raises the question of who is defined as responsible for dealing with issues concerning gender Equality in these different contexts. Theories used are the gender system and intersectionality. The study builds on a mapping of a company that is active nationally and internationally, with emphasis on the problems that can arise when these two social contexts meet, with a special focus on cathegories such as gender and ?Swedishness?.

During the autumn of 2007 I carried out an investigation within the bank and finance Sector. The aim of the investigation was to see how informal aspects could be understood in relation to Equality within Bank AB? The main question was: Which are the obstacles and opportunities for Equality within Bank AB? To answer the main question I asked the following questions to the material: Are there any gender related different within the organization? How are men and women represented within the internal magazine? Which are the conceptions related to sex/gender within the organization? The investigation is based on a survey, the internal magazine was investigated and finally interviews took place. Throughout the investigation I used organization theory in a gender perspective. With the gender organization theory I examined concepts as structures, leadership, symbolism and changes associated with Equality.

Backlash för feminismen? : En analys av svensk jämställdhetspolitisk idédebatt 1998 - 2011

The aim of this thesis is to investigate and analyse the debate of ideas on gender Equality policy during 1998 - 2011. The questions raised in this thesis are; which gender Equality policy ideology has prevailed during 1998 - 2011, and which ideological orientation have the different ministers of gender Equality expressed during the same period of time? I have conducted the study by analysing government publications and debate articles against a ideological framework consisting of different types of feminist theory. In order to get a result as representative as possible, I have only used the material from each of the ministers during their time in office. The research method that I have used when analyzing the material is qualitative text analysis.

När jämställdhet blir problemet : Adoptionshandläggning för samkönade par

This study shows how social workers reason about the concepts of gender, gender roles and Equality and if these arguments reinforce heteronormativity that could affect the ability of same-sex couples to adopt children. The reasoning regarding Equality indicates a difference between heterosexual couples and same-sex couples. What emerges in the study is that the social workers reasoning can be explained with that they have been imbued by heteronormativity. Heteronormativity becomes a contributing part of how same-sex couples are seen in the adoption process. Arguments for Equality, which erase stereotypes, do not apply in the same way for same-sex couples as for heterosexual couples.

Jämställdhet ? en otydlig vision med svenskhet som norm : en genusvetenskaplig fallstudie och intersektionell analys av jämställdhetsarbete i en kommunal kontext

This is a case study of work for gender Equality, performed by the Employment and Competence Centre (Arbets- och kompetenscenter) in the municipality of Botkyrka. The aim of the study is to explore how gender Equality is understood in the context of a municipality, and what underlying assumptions this understanding is based upon. The questions raised are; How is gender Equality understood by the personnel? How do they understand gender? To what extent are women and men seen as homogeneous groups and what differences are (un)visible? What other power hierarchies besides gender are seen as important when working for gender Equality? The analysis show that gender Equality is a blurry vision, mainly understood in terms of equal conditions and rights, equal results for male and female participants and equal amount of women and men employed. Gender is seen as a binary system and differences between the genders are highlighted.

"Ibland tror jag man kan ha en dubbelmoral inom sig själv..." : - En studie om gymnasielevers förståelse av jämlikhet på en principiell och konkret nivå

The purpose of this study is, by groupinterviewing students in upper secondary school, to investigate students comprehension of Equality on a principle level and a concrete level. The questions at issue are as follows; how is the comprehension on respective levels described and is there any difference or similarities between the two levels? Further more, this study also aims to end with a discussion regarding the result from the mainpurpose in relation to the educational environment. In my conclusion there is to be find a certain difference between the comprehensions of Equality on the two levels. The conception of Equality is in the beginning principled and there is no exception from the worth of every individual but however, when the conception is brought out in reality it gets depended of its context and the comprehension for Equality becomes more dynamic. The project will be completed with a discussion regarding the results in relation to the educational environment. .

Jämlikhet i vården : - en kritisk ideologianalys av privatiseringens inverkan på betydelsen av en jämlik vård

This thesis investigates if privatization of the Swedish healthcare system influences our view on the meaning of Equality. This system is based on the principle that all people are equals and that healthcare should be provided on the basis of need. I apply critical ideology analysis to investigate how our view of Equality might change because of the evolvement of society. A critical view may be explained as an interest in exploring things that seem obvious to many. Important questions to answer are why Equality is regarded as such a natural concept in the society and how healthcare is actually provided.

Genus och jämställdhet : En kvalitativ studie om fyra pedagogers arbete med genus och jämställdhet på förskolan

The purpose of this study is to find out how the four teachers at the two preschools believe they are working with gender and how they actually work with it in practice. It also aims to show how they treat the children at the preschool based on their gender.What is the preschool teachers view on gender and Equality?How do they consider that they work with gender and gender Equality, and how do they really work with it in practice?The study is based on a qualitative study were I chose to both interview and observe four preschool teachers from two different preschools. My theoretical starting point is Yvonne Hirdmans theory of gender and also research on gender Equality. The results show that the majority of respondents believed that gender and gender Equality means almost the same thing or have the same meaning.

Vägen till jämställdhet - Kvinnor i styrelserum eller män i förskolan? : En kritisk analys av den svenska jämställdhetsdiskursen

Equality between the sexes has been discussed in Sweden for more than 50 years. In the 60´s and during the 70´s the discourse that dominated the debate was based on the assumption that both men and women needed to liberate themselves from their traditional gender roles. In this approach information and education was perceived as the key to Equality. During the 80´s however, power and subordination became the main focal point of concern within this debate, and focus upon changing the patriarchal power structures dominating society were perceived as the principal key for establishing Equality between the sexes. Today, the latter discourse still dominates both the scientific and the political perspective upon Equality.

(O)jämställdhet som etnisk markör : En kvalitativ studie om hur lärare i  förberedelseklasser resonerar kring genus och jämställdhet

The study aims to evaluate how teachers in my research have reasoned regarding gender and gender Equality, notions on ethnicity, and specific conceptions or constructions on ?swedish-ness? and ?immigrants?. The vital point in this study will be to examine the relationship be-tween gender Equality, ethnocentrism and racism. The question formulation that I have ap-plied are: On what grounds teachers conceive the concepts of gender and gender Equality? How do teachers experience their work with gender Equality in remedial classes? Do the teachers that work in remedial classes experience any obstacles in the pursuit of gender equal-ity in their daily work? I have used the method of qualitative interviews with five teachers in remedial classes from five different schools.
