Diabetes Mellitus is one of the most common endocrinologic Disorders among dogs. The disorder has a complex background, and successful treatment requires a well-functioning co-operation between pet owners and the veterinarian. The purpose of this study is to investigate the owners? perspective of diabetic treatments offered, and to estimate expected length of survival post-insulin therapy. The research findings are based on a survey mailed to 77 pet owners, whose dogs were diagnosed with diabetes between 1999 and 2003 at the small animal clinic of the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. The median survival for the dogs that underwent insulin treatment was 31 months, i.e.

This study examines counselors understanding of body fixation (alt: body image fixation) as a social problem among young women aged 15-25 years. Earlier research on this subject highlights the standards and ideals placed on the female body where happiness is associated with a slim body figure. Research has shown that young women that compare their own bodies with others are at higher risk at developing an unhealthy relationship with their body, which can lead to eating Disorders. The data for this study was collected through semi-structured interviews with nine counselors from youth clinics, schools and primary healthcare. The results were interpreted and analysed in the light of social constructionist perspective as developed by Berger & Luckmann and Loseke's social constructionist definition of social problems.

Abstract  The development and onset of diseases such as cardiovascular disease (CVD) and Type 2 diabetes are closely linked to genetics and lifestyle factors including physical activity and diet. A cluster of metabolic Disorders called the metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a high-risk factor in developing these diseases. Acording to the International diabetes institute, one fourth of the worlds adult population has MetS. These individuals are twice as likely to die from CVDs compared to individuals without MetS. Physical activity (PA) and exercise has been shown to provide a number of positive effects that are considered to reduce the risk of developing sickness and premature mortality among both men and women of all ages, independent of other risk factors.

By submitting a questionnaire to all professions within the groups I have tried to find similarities and differences in their statements from both structured and unstructured questions. The study is an attempt to contribute knowledge about how these groups can be understood and developed, based on a special education perspective, systems theory and sense of coherence (KASAM). The results shows that there is a consensus among the majority of staff opinions of the systems? opportunities as well as dilemmas.

Introduction: Sleep Disorders are an increasingly growing public health problem. InSweden, the last decade's increase in sleep problems was greatest among younger agegroups. Studies show association between the use of communication media and sleepinghabits. Objective: The aim is to map sleep habits and use of communication mediumamong adolescents and to study associations between them. Method: The study isbased on a previously collected survey data among high school students (18-21 years)from a coastal town in southern Sweden.

A child with functional disorder getting close to starting school has different types of schooling to choose between. Parents and the school of the matter have to agree in consultation. I use the conceptions included and segregated schooling to show different ways attend school. By included education I mean that all students with as well as without functional disorder in a group shall be completely comprised in the situation and not be separated from the group by individual exercises (Fors 2004). A segregated schooling is often pursued in special school where all the students have functional disorder and the education usually takes place in separate buildings (Emanuelsson 2001).I have completed a qualitative case study of a boy who is 14 years old and has the functional disorder Down?s syndrome and has been placed at a special school his entire schooling.

SAMMANFATTNINGBakgrund: Vid behandling av ätstörningar hos barn och ungdomar konstateras att föräldrars delaktighet har en betydande roll. Sjuksköterskan kan möta föräldrar till barn och ungdomar med ätstörning inom olika vårdinstanser och vårdformer och för att kunna ge stöd och god omvårdnad med familjen i fokus, är det av intresse att belysa upplevelser och erfarenheter hos föräldrar, av att leva med och/eller vårda barn/ungdom med ätstörning.Syfte: Att beskriva föräldrars upplevelser och erfarenheter av att leva med och/eller vårda barn/ungdom, med diagnostiserad ätstörning.Metod: En litteraturstudie genomfördes utifrån nio artiklar av kvalitativ ansats. Artiklarnas resultat analyserades och sammanfördes.Resultat: Föräldrar upplevde social isolering, förändringar i vardagslivet samt svårigheter att förhålla sig till ätstörningen. För många var den känslomässiga bördan tung och känslor som oro, frustration och maktlöshet var vanliga. Vidare blev ekonomi och egen hälsa lidande till följd av sjukdomen.

Stroke drabbar årligen 25 000-30 000 personer i Sverige. För dem som insjuknar i stroke är dysfagi (sväljningssvårigheter) ett vanligt problem. Dysfagi kan bland annat leda till att patienten sväljer fel och blir undernärd och risk för hostattacker, aspiration och pneumoni kan uppstå som följd. Patienter med sväljningssvårigheter efter stroke kan också uppleva oro, rädsla, skam, lidande och orkeslöshet vid matsituationer. Forskning visar också att patienter upplever sig vara beroende av andra vid måltiderna.Syftet med denna studie är att beskriva patients upplevelser vid måltiden samt formulera omvårdnadsåtgärder som kan leda till förbättring i ätandet för patienter som drabbas av dysfagi efter stroke.Metoden är en litteraturstudie.

SAMMANFATTNING BakgrundAtt arbeta skift har visat sig vara en stressfaktor som påverkar både sömn och hälsa negativt och inom sjukvården kan även patientsäkerheten äventyras om personalen är utmattad på grund av sömnbrist.SyfteSyfte med denna litteraturstudie var att beskriva vilka faktorer som påverkar sömnen och kan medföra sömnstörningar, samt vilka preventiva åtgärder som kan leda till förbättrad sömn hos skiftarbetande vårdspersonal.MetodResultatet bygger på tio vetenskapliga artiklar publicerade under åren 2007-2013. Dessa söktes genom databaserna Cinahl, PsykINFO och PubMed.Resultat I analysen av artiklarna framkom att skiftarbete som inkräktar på normala sömntider har en uppenbart skadlig effekt på sömnen med svårigheter att somna och sömnighet under både arbetstid och ledighet. Utmärkande var att stigande ålder och låg stresströskel (hardiness) ökade risken för sömnstörningar. Att ges möjlighet till tupplur under nattpass var en viktig åtgärd för att förebygga trötthet och främja hälsan hos skiftarbetande vårdpersonal.SlutsatsEftersom skiftarbete i sig har en uppenbart skadlig effekt på sömnen så är det av största vikt att ge vårdpersonalen bästa möjliga förutsättningar för att bibehålla sin hälsa på sikt. Förutom att planera för bra skiftscheman med schemalagd rast samt möjlighet att sova på nattpassen, bör man ta hänsyn till vårdpersonalens ålder och stresstålighet (hardiness)..

Schmallenberg virus (SBV) is a novel arthropod-borne orthobunyavirus emerging in Europe in 2011 to 2012. Acute SBV infection causes diarrhoea, fever and reduced milk production in dairy cattle, but it is mainly the reproductive Disorders (abortions, malformed foetuses and stillborn animals) in ruminants that have caused substantial economical losses. The prevalence of the virus outside of Europe is poorly investigated. SBV or SBV-like antibodies were detected in Mozambique in 2013, which raised interest for a similar study in Tanzania. In this study in Tanzania, blood samples were collected from 478 sheep and goats from 39 herds in 15 different villages in three districts, covering areas in the north, south and east of Tanzania. The epidemiology of the virus was investigated by tracing antibodies by ELISA and mapping of the virus by PCR was started.

Sjuksköterskans arbete innebär att kunna ge en bra vård till människor med olika typer av etnisk bakgrund, tro och värderingar. Ätstörning är ett tillstånd av psykisk ohälsa där den drabbade har utvecklat vad som kan likna en fobi för normal kroppsvikt. Den fysiska hälsan blir också påverkad på grund av de olika metoder som den drabbade använder för viktnedgång samt på grund av näringsnedsättning. Livskvailtet är hur en människa upplever sin tillvaro och om personen känner någon mening i sitt liv. Syftet med studien var att beskriva hur ungdomar och unga vuxna med ätstörningar upplever sin livskvalitet.

The purpose of the studyfocuses onhow teachersatan uppersecondary school, studentsin the autismspectrum,describetheir experiencesof working withmappingtools, Nylander(2012).Inmy research questionsIstarted fromthe teachers? descriptions of their experiences of mapping procedures, if the outcome ofthe mapping hasinfluenced theteachers'educational work and ifmappingcould contribute tothe visibilityandclarification of the student´s functioning in aschool context.As the study is based on five interviews in which teachers reflect on their experiences from the tool of mapping, the socio-cultural perspective where learning takes place through interaction with the environment became a framework to build from. The method has been interviews based on a qualitative research interview. By using interviews, I was able to capture the diversity of the interviewees? experiences described from the basis of an interview guide.

Syftet med föreliggande litteraturstudie var att beskriva på vilket sätt licensierade vårdhundar kan fungera som ett komplement i omvårdnaden av barn med autismspektrumtillstånd. Syftet var också att beskriva kvaliteten av artiklarna utifrån den metodologiska aspekten urval. En litteraturstudie med deskriptiv ansats genomfördes utifrån två artiklar med kvalitativ ansats, två artiklar med kvantitativ ansats, fyra artiklar med kvalitativ ansats och kvantitativa mätningar, samt två artiklar med kvantitativ ansats och kvalitativa inslag i form av observationer. De inkluderade artiklarna hade publicerats mellan åren 1989 och 2013. De databaser som användes för artikelsökningen var Academic Search Elite, Cinahl och PubMed med sökorden: Dogs, Child, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Animal-assisted, Service dogs, Autism samt Therapy Dogs.

The purpose of this Master?s thesis is to investigate if there might be a possiblecorrelation between young women´s fascination with the vampire narrative andtheir search for identity in the late modern age. With the help of contemporarysociological studies in the field of the late modern man and today?s youth culture,I?ve chosen to do qualitative interviews with eight young women in order to examinehow today?s society affects their process of identification. Lately we?ve been ableto see an enormous interest for books that deal with the vampire saga, and while thereaders are mostly young females, it brought me to ask the question why the combinationof teenage drama and vampires seems to be such a winning concept.We live in a time where most young females experience a lot of pressure trying to addup to the demands of society, and as the media keep producing images of youngwomen being thin and looking like supermodels, most teenagers feel a lot of pressureand anxiety trying to live up to such unnatural ideals that in the long run might lead tovarious health issues and eating Disorders.As a result of this thesis I?ve found that the vampire narrative answers to some ofthe existential needs we have as members of a late modern society.
