Sömnvanor och hälsa. En kvantitativ studie om ungdomars sömnvanor och användande av dator, mobiltelefon och internet.


Introduction: Sleep disorders are an increasingly growing public health problem. InSweden, the last decade's increase in sleep problems was greatest among younger agegroups. Studies show association between the use of communication media and sleepinghabits. Objective: The aim is to map sleep habits and use of communication mediumamong adolescents and to study associations between them. Method: The study isbased on a previously collected survey data among high school students (18-21 years)from a coastal town in southern Sweden. The study had 253 respondents, 55% boys.Results: The majority of respondents slept between six and eight hours per night. Theboys slept slightly less and went to bed later than girls. It was detected a clear shift insleep habits between weekdays and the weekend. Association was demonstratedbetween time in front of computer and hours of sleep. For sleep less than six hours a Jshapedassociation was shown. Both the increasing use of computers and a small usageshowed higher prevalence of sleep less than six hours. Association between highcomputer use after 8 pm and not feeling rested in the morning was found. High mobileusage associated with poorer sleep.
