Folkbibliotekets uppdrag i teori och praktik. En diskursanalys kring formulerandet av folkbibliotekets uppdrag i ett urval biblioteksrelaterade tidskrifter under åren 1999-2000

The aim of this Masters thesis is to examine and analyse how the public librarys mission is interpreted and formulated in a selection of library related journals. The journals are both international scientific referee journals from the LIS field and journals with a closer connection to the practitioners within the public library field. The idea is that these journals can be seen as windows to an academic theoretic perspective on public libraries, as well as to the practitioners way of talking about the librarys mission. The study also aims to examine if there is a difference in the way that the librarys mission is interpreted and discussed among theorists and among practitioners within the field. The theoretical starting-point is Ernesto Laclaus and Chantal Mouffes Discourse theory, and the method is text analytic.

Folkbibliotekets pedagogiska uppgifter - en diskursanalys av fyra bibliotekstidskrifter

And in relation to our main question: how do the concepts of information literacy, lifelong learning and adult education relate to each other? Is there an antagonism between the public library's duty to supply fiction as opposed to non-fiction? and: What are the consequences of these Discourses in the service provided by the library? Our theoretical starting-point is the Discourse theory as proposed by Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffe. We analyse 39 texts from four Swedish library journals: Ikoner, bis, DIK-forum and Biblioteksbladet. The analysis is done in two phases.

"ADHD vanligt bland unga brottslingar" : En kritisk diskursanalys av hur Aftonbladet och Dagens Nyheter framställer ADHD

Further, the study asked whether medical or social explanation is used in the Discourse that appears in newspaper articles, how ADHD is described as well as which people are quoted in the articles. In this study we used Norman Fairclough´s critical Discourse analysis with the 26 sampled articles which we believe highlight different perspectives on ADHD diagnosis. Our study shows that there are representatives cited in the articles from school, the judiciary and the medical field. Könsöverskridande identitet eller uttryck : En diskursanalys av hur transpersoner inkluderas i Diskrimineringslagen

In 2009 transgendered persons were included in the Swedish law against discrimination. Prior to the inclusion a commission made an investigation of the necessity of such change in the law and how it could be designed. Using theories by Judith Butler and Discourse analysis inspired by Norman Fairclough it identifies two main Discourses regarding gender: a two gender Discourse and a queer Discourse. The two Discourses meet in the studied material in an antagonistic way, a conflict that is solved by separating the two and making one part of the law focus on gender and one on transgender.

By using Discourse analysis, the purpose isto explore whether the Discourse leads to practice when it comes to nationalimplementation of EU debates on return policy. The material used in this workconsists of policy documents regarding the Return Directive from the EuropeanCommission as well as the Reva Project in Swedish migration policy. The mainobjective of the Reva Project is to make the process of returning irregular immigrantsmore effective and it has been strongly criticized, both by media and public opinion. The conclusion of this case study is that even if the security rhetoric may appearstronger on the EU level, the main elements of the security Discourse are stillportrayed in the implementation on the national level. Based on this analysis we canmake the presumption that Discourse develops into practice in the case of returnpolicy in the EU-member state relation..
