The aim of this Master?s thesis is to examine how librarians, information specialists and teachers discuss Wikipedia within national (Swedish) professional journals. Questions asked in the study are: How is Wikipedia perceived in the professional journals? What different positions do writers and commentators take in relation to Wikipedia? 133 articles from 31 different professional journals in the period from 2001 to the middle of 2010 were analysed. The theory and method used is Laclau?s and Mouffe?s Discourse theory from which we created our own model with sex different steps.
The aim of this master's thesis is to study how gender equity is discussed and worked with at a Swedish public library, and what potential consequences these discussions will bring. By analysing different types of documents and interviews with library staff using Discourse psychological theories and methods we show that two dominating Discourses coexist and determine the direction of how gender equity is discussed. These Discourses are argued to create and uphold gender and gender roles within the organisation as well as in society at large. In our study we find that one of the identified Discourses has, as one of its consequences, that it preserves and regenerates traditional gender roles. This Discourse is mainly used when discussing personnel policies and when recruiting. We call this the Discourse of gender role preservation. The second Discourse is mainly seen when discussing the public dimension of the library's functions.
This thesis applies a Discourse theoretical approach in order to examine in whatways and with what possible meanings the library at KVINFO participates in the overall gender Discourse in society. This means that our reading takes place at a metatheoretical level, focussing on the library as a constructor of meaning in relation to society's gender Discourse.Besides the actual reading, the thesis argues for the fruitfulness of using both a Discourse theoretical and a feministic perspective in the field of Library and Information Science. By looking at libraries in general through a lens provided by these perspectives, libraries are staged as battlegrounds for competing Discourses, that attempt to promote its particular knowledge claim on how reality should be perceived. The reading shows that it is possible to perceive the library at KVINFO as amaterial articulation that takes shape by and is part in a feministic counterDiscourse against the masculinistic hegemonic Discourse, which throughout ?hisstory? has positioned women as ?the other?, and established men as the normative category in society, including the libraries. Through its practise KVINFO has contributed to a change in the collective identity ascribed to women.
Literary debates about canon occur regularly. In the summer of 2006 such a debate took place in Sweden. The aim of this Master thesis is to examine the debate to identify the different Discourses and what they reveal about ideas concerning the role of literature in society. The empirical material used for the analysis consists of 46 debate articles from three important newspapers. The combined theory and method applied is the Discourse analysis described in Ernesto Laclau?s & Chantal Mouffe?s Discourse theory.
Identitet, image och profil. En diskursiv studie av Malmö stadsbibliotek
The aim of this master?s thesis is to examine the Discourses about Malmö public library that can be identified in several documents published by the library, articles, and various WebPages. Furthermore, our intention is to study the relation between the library?s identity, image and profile. The questions posed in the study are: Which identity Discourses are Malmö public library giving expression for? What kind of conflicts between these Discourses can we find? How is the identity, image and profile of the library in relation to one another? How does Malmö public library profile and market itself as a non-profit organization? Our theoretical and methodological building ground is in the Discourse analytical field, with Enesto Laclau?s and Chantal Mouffe?s theories about Discourse and society, as a starting-point.
The term ?vulnerable areas? is developed by the Swedish police, referring to various areas in Sweden that are classified as socioeconomically disadvantaged, and with an active criminal presence. Over time, this term has gained significant popularity and is now used not only by the police but also by other entities such as the media, where these areas are often depicted as urban outcasts. Therefore, this study focuses on the portrayal of ?vulnerable areas? in the Swedish news media, where the topic has been widely debated in recent years.
The aim of this thesis is to study discursive change in the Swedish environmental political Discourse between 1987-2005. The text of three Swedish budget propositions are analysed for this purpose. The results from the analysis are related to a few relevant theoretical perspectives that hold partly different views on what constitutes ?sustainable development? and ?ecological modernization?. Through these theories the thesis continues the discussion around the two central but somewhat blurry terms sustainable development and ecological modernization. The aim of this discussion is to conclude whether the discursive change in Swedish environmental politics can be said to go more in the direction of sustainable development or ecological modernization, or if elements of both perspectives can be found. The analysis shows that the Swedish environmental Discourse has come to include more and more political fields such as general welfare politics, during the period.

"Jag tycker det är en snäll typ av marknadsföring" : - En kritisk diskursanalys om content marketing i podcasts.
The aim of this study was to investigate in what way content marketing can be understood through podcasts as an alternative marketing tool. The material which the study was based on is Ölpodden, a podcast initiated by Carlsberg Sweden. The study intended to shed light on the interdiscursivity that emerges when brands are communicated through podcasts. Another aim was to understand how relationships and identities are constructed through the podcast by examining its intended audience. In order to achieve this a critical Discourse analysis was used as both underlining theory and comprehensive method.
Biblioteket, bibliotekarien och framtiden
During my time as a student at the School of Library and Information Science in Borås there was an ongoing discussion regarding whether or not the library and librarian were facing an identity crisis and what future consequences this may lead to. The discussion was and still is of interest to me since it most likely will have an impact on the identity I soon will make part of my self as a professional librarian. This master?s thesis is an attempt that to through Discourse analysis seek clarity in what the future identity of the library and the librarian may consist of. I do so by examining articles from the two library journals Ikoner and Biblioteksbladet.
(O)möjligheternas plats? En diskursstudie av Garaget
A general topic underlying this master thesis is how the public library is being transformed through the subversion and re-articualtion of meaning according to different Discourses. The aim of the study can be divided in to levels of analysis. At the first level, the aim is to investigate how categories such as users, needs and vision are articulated in a specific case ?the visionary project Garaget in Malmö, a project which in part include a public library inspired by Idea Store. The next level of analysis sets out to explore how the case of Garaget is related to a totalizing discursive struggle over meaning within the element the public library.
Homelessness and homeless people is something that is described and explained in different ways over time. Since the 1950s, two Discourses about homelessness and its causes has been competing with each other. One Discourse hold the meaning that homelessness is caused by housing shortage and the other focus on individual shortcomings that make homeless to unsuitable tenants. In the media, homelessness and homeless often is associated with crime, addiction and mental illness, this reinforce the public perception of homeless people as deviants, which separates the homeless from society even more. The purpose of this study is to examine whether media representations of homeless and homelessness in an evening paper and a morning paper, has changed in the 2000s, and if these representations are consistent with those found in the reports of homelessness from The National Board of Wealth and Welfare. In order to achieve the purpose of the study and answer our research questions, the authors have used a Discourse analytical approach using some key analytical tools from both critical Discourse analysis and Discourse theory in the analysis of the empirical material.
The aim with this study is to identify and discuss Discourses in public service policy documents to clarify that public service policy is political and not self-evident. The study's theoretical as well as methodological starting point is the Discourse theory of Laclau and Mouffe, which ontological position is that all meaning is constructed by Discourses. In the studied material, two Discourses have been identified in policy concerning the content in public service media. The responsibility-Discourse construct meanings of what content the policy wants to see in public service media and in the quality-Discourse meanings of how the content should be is constructed. Public service policy is consistent over the period that has been studied and the study shows that there is consensus in the parliament about the regulation of the content in public service media.
The aim of this Master?s thesis is to research how the Göteborg City Museum places their organization in a context of culture policies andmuseology. The discursive analysis constitutes the methodical frame for this thesis. According to the analysis of this thesis, since an increasing influence of a market-oriented Discourse, an antagonism between a sociological pathos and a market-oriented instrumentality seems to be the major theoretical clash at the museum. Inside the organization though, the personnel lacks broader insights concerning these theoretical conflicts, but the stressed economic situation creates no room for further theorization. There is a risk to get caught in a market-oriented Discourse where there is no time to reflect on the effects of the Discourse because of the lack of time that the Discourse itself generates.
