Magnesiumstatus hos mjölkkor : en fältstudie

Magnesium is an essential mineral that is important for several physiologic and biochemical processes in the body. Deficiency of magnesium is mainly associated with grass tetany, but can also appear in cows during the indoor period. Since long it is known that potassium has a negative effect on the absorption of magnesium. Due to the fact that potassium fertilisation leads to a higher potassium content in forage, it is of interest to study interactions of potassium on the magnesium balance in dairy cows. There are few studies about magnesium feeding to dairy cows in Sweden and the purpose of this study was to investigate how much magnesium and from which feed-sources dairy cows in Sweden get their magnesium. Data was collected from seven farms in the northern part of Uppland and from seven farms in Skaraborg in Sweden.

Diabetessjuksköterskors attityd till lågkolhydratkost vid diabetes typ II

Bakgrund Diabetes typ II är ett globalt och nationellt växande hälsoproblem. Lågkolhydratkost har väckt debatt i samhället, men har enligt studier resulterat i gynnsamma effekter för patientgruppen. Socialstyrelsen rekommenderar måttlig lågkolhydratkost som en av flera primära alternativ till kosthållning för patienter med diabetes typ II.Syfte Att undersöka diabetessjuksköterskors attityd och kunskap gällande lågkolhydratkost vid diabetes typ II.Metod Kvalitativa semi-strukturerade intervjuer med sju diabetessjuksköterskor inom Uppsalas primärvård.Resultat Diabetessjuksköterskorna hade observerat positiva effekter i sitt kliniska arbete av kolhydratreduktion, men ingen sjuksköterska gav måttlig lågkolhydratkost som rekommendation i första hand till patienterna. Farhågor för att lågkolhydratkost, främst orsakat av ett ökat fettintag, skulle kunna resultera i en ökning av risken för hjärt-kärlsjukdom eller andra negativa hälsoeffekter skildrades. Medvetenheten gällande kostrekommendationer och uppdateringen kring aktuell forskning varierade.Slutsats Medvetenhet och kunskap gällande lågkolhydratkost som kosthållning vid diabetes typ II varierade hos diabetessjuksköterskor inom Uppsalas primärvård.

Feed costs constitute a large part of the expenses of dairy farmers. Pasture is a high quality feed with a low cost. However, feeding with concentrates has been shown to enhance milk yield (Leaver, 1985; Bargo et al., 2003; Stockdale, 2004). The purpose with this study was to investigate how milk yield and milk composition were affected as the concentrate proportion in the Diet decreased. Pasture behaviour was examined to see if the different concentrate levels affected the time cows spent grazing and ruminating.

Vilka faktorer påverkar valet av diet? : En enkätundersökning på unga vuxna som studerar på Högskolan i Gävle

Enligt matvaneundersökningar har unga vuxna sämst matvanor. Detta är ett stort hälsoproblem eftersom dåliga matvanor ökar risken för sjukdomar. Trots att allmänheten har goda kunskaper om de svenska kostråden äter de flesta inte efter dem. Ett problem kan ligga i Livsmedelverket oförmåga att nå ut och övertyga allmänheten att äta efter deras kostråd. Förespråkare för populära Dieter är däremot bättre på att marknadsföra sig och har fler följare.

Raw food, eller råkost Diet kan ses som en växande trend i västvärlden och även i Sverige. Det har kommit ut raw food böcker på svenska, på internet finns det svenska diskussionsforum, bloggar och butiker som alla har dedikerat sig till rawfoodister, första raw food restauranger har öppnats i landet. Raw food är en form av vegankost; den består av frukt, grönsaker, nötter, frön och kallpressade oljor. Maten värms inte upp mer än 40 C, torkning och frysning accepteras, många äter mjölksyrade grönsaker, groddade spannmål och baljväxter. Kaffe, alkohol, raffinerat socker, vit mjöl och salt undviks.

Kostrekommendationer till personer med övervikt och diabetes typ 2 - Litteraturstudie

The purpose of this literature review was to describe if the nutritional balance of the fats, carbohydrates, proteins and fibers can lead to weight reduction and to improve glucos-/blood lipid for individuals with obesity and type 2 diabetes. The method used was a literature review. Twenty-two scientific articles were chosen, which were consistent with the study purpose and questions. The articles were selected based on searches in the Medline database by PubMed. The keywords used were type 2 diabetes mellitus, Diet, obesity, comparative, fat, carbohydrate, low carbohydrate, high fat and saturated fat.

The aim of this study is to investigate if tail biting depends on environment or genetic background.A lot of research on the environments effects on the behaviour of pigs but not so much on the genetic effects has been performed. The frequency of tail biting in pig farms influence among others of environment enrichment, ventilation, gender and breed of the pig.

Gymnasieelevers kunskap om kost och hälsa : Upper secondary school student?s knowledge about diet and a healthy lifestyle

AbstraktSyftet med studien har varit att undersöka vad eleverna har lärt sig om kost och hälsa på högstaDiet inom ämnena idrott och hälsa samt hem och konsumentkunskap. Undersökningen gjordes med hjälp av enkäter som omfattade totalt 55 elever. Under min utbildning till lärare inom idrott och hälsa samt hem och konsumentkunskap har jag sett att övervikt och ohälsa blir ett allt större problem bland våra ungdomar. Som i sin tur kan leda till dålig självkänsla, utanförskap och en dålig hälsa hos eleverna. Resultatet visade att uppfattningen om den egna kunskapen och den verkliga kunskapen om kost och hälsa var bra hos majoriteten av eleverna.

Elevers attityder till hälsa och kost relaterat till skolprestation.

Detta examensarbete behandlar huruvida elevers attityder till hälsa och kost är relaterat till deras attityd om skolprestation. Eleverna som deltog i undersökningen gick på en skola i en förort till Malmö och arbetade under tre veckor med ett hälso-tema som behandlade kost, motion och välbefinnande. Mina frågeställningar lyder: ? Hur ser elevernas fysiska aktivitet ut? ? Hur ser elevernas matvanor ut? ? Hur ser eleverna själva på sina skolprestationer och prestationer i övrigt? ? Har temaveckorna ändrat elevernas syn på någon av punkterna ovan? Jag har med hjälp av ovanstående frågor försökt se om fysisk aktivitet har någon koppling till hur eleverna ser på sina skolprestationer och sitt kostval. Min undersökningsmetod var enkäter som kompletterades med enskilda samtal angående enkätfrågorna. Enkätsvaren visade att 78 % av eleverna hade fysiska aktiviteter efter skoltid och att dessa elever fann det viktigt att prestera så bra som möjligt i skolan med undantag av en elev.

Grb10 and developmental programming: evaluation of a maternal diet restriction model during gestation

This study was conducted at the University of Bath, UK, from September to December 2014 as part of an ongoing research project aimed at elucidating how the Grb10 gene might act as a mediator of long-term health effects (such as predisposition to obesity, diabetes, coronary heart disease and hypertension) caused by environmental factors during development. This phenomenon is known as developmental programming. The purpose of this thesis was not primarily to answer any of the broader questions posed by this research project at large since this would require much more data than is reasonable to acquire over the course of a few months, but rather to evaluate the methods used in this project and reveal whether they are working the way they are presumed to. In the research project, which employs mice with the Grb10 gene knocked out as well as wild-type control mice, a Dietary restriction model is utilized during gestation, which is supposed to generate offspring with lower birth weight and subsequent detrimental health effects in adulthood. This is supposed to be achieved by restricting the protein content of the pregnant mothers? Diet to 9 % (as opposed to the control Diet of 20 %) throughout gestation.

Aim: To describe perceptions about written and verbal information regarding Diet and physical activity in women with breast cancer and to study possible differences between ages and perception. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted and consisted of 57 women with breast cancer stages I-III who started adjuvant chemotherapy within a year (2007-2008). A questionnaire, regarding their perceptions about the written and verbal information they had received about Diet and physical activity, was responded to three months following treatment completion. Between 67-93 % of the participants responded to the questions. The answers was analyzed with descriptive statistics and Mann Whitney U-test.

The elevated level of testosterone often leads to problem with acne and hirsutism, and it is also common with overweight and metabolic syndrome. The nutrition treatment has mainly consisted of energy restriction, together with exercise and drugs to reduce insulin resistance and consequently reduce androgen levels. However, an in-depth knowledge about how the components of our Diet can affect further, is lacking.Omega-3-fatty acids can affect insulin resistance and testosterone levels within other groups but today knowledge is lacking if these findings can be transferred to women with PCOS.
