Probiotics is a special group of health products on the market. The most common type of  these is live cultures of lactic acid fermenting bacteria from raw milk . These include, among others, yogurt and various trademarks such as Hälsofil ®, Acidophilus ®, Dofilus ® and Kefir ®. Such products are often used by patients who are treated with antibiotics to combat the intestinal flora eliminated, thus causing digestive problems. The present work deals with yet another type of health product, viz.

Fagerström Industrikonsult AB är ett ingenjörsföretag som har specialiserat sig på mekaniska och mekatroniska produkter inom flera branchområden. Ett av företagets tidigare projekt, som bland annat bygger på tryckbärande kärl och som kommer återanvändas för ett nytt projekt, är i behov av en uppdaterad analys mot utmattningsbrott.För att en tryckbärande utrustning skall kunna säljas och användas inom Europa, måste tillverkarna följa det Europeiska direktivet 97/23/EG, även kallat PED-direktiv. Detta direktiv sätter regler för konstruktion, tillverkning, märkning och kontroll. I Sverige finns denna beskrivning i Arbetsmiljöverkets författnings-samling (AFS 1999:4 2011).

This master thesis was made to investigate the possibilities of using the Matlab-basedsoftware Basegrain to determine grain size distributions of erosion protections onhydropower dams. Basegrain is a photogrammetric tool developed to generate grainsize distributions and other information about coarse flood sediments by analyzing adigital photo of the stone bed. The investigation was made by validating the ability forBasegrain to assess grain size distributions of various materials smaller than the blocksused in an erosion protection by comparing sieving results or manual measurementswith the results obtained by the program. A statistical comparison was then made bycomparing the results from sieving and the program. The possibilities of using thesame method on existing hydropower dams were then investigated by determiningwhether the method was practically viable or not.The results showed that Basegrain generated grain size distributions for coarse gravelthat were very close to the sieving results.

The purpose of this masters thesis is to find out if public libraries provide new age materials or not. My research is done using the point of view of the library users. Do they think libraries hold a sufficient amount of new age literature and do the users find this literature of good quality? To find an answer to this question, interviews have been made with a number of library users interested in new age related issues. Interviews have also been made with librarians, to get their point of view on this rather controversial subject.

Detta kandidatarbete behandlar tillverkning av tubreaktor och katalysator för att producerametan från syntesgas i laboratorieskala. Den tillverkade nickel-alumina katalysatornsprestanda utvärderades för att undersöka möjligheterna att producera metan i tillräckligmängd för att driva ett fordon. Det finns en förhoppning att på Chalmers producera etteget fordonsbränsle till studenternas bidrag till Shell Eco-marathon, en tävling för bränslesnålafordon. Testerna av reaktorn används för att öka förståelsen för metaniseringsreaktionensamt att bidra till att förverkliga visionen med kommande kandidatarbeten.Projektet innefattade flera parallella delsteg. Reaktorframställning innefattade dimensionering,design och tillverkning av en reaktor.

Vårt arbete behandlar möjligheterna och hindren för att använda additiva tillverkningsmetoder (AM) med metall som bas för direkttillverkning vid batchproduktion. AM tillåter användaren att tillverka delar med komplicerade geometrier som är svåra, eller i vissa fall omöjliga, att tillverka för dagens konventionella tillverkningstekniker. Dessutom tillåter teknologin tillverkaren att skapa inre strukturer i ett material som exempelvis gitter- och bikakestrukturer. Metoderna för AM med metall skiljer sig bitvis ganska mycket åt, men grundprincipen är att man bygger upp en modell lager för lager utifrån en given digital fil, oftast CAD. Vårt arbete har därför behandlat området utifrån ett i första hand tekniskt men även kunskapsmässigt och ekonomiskt perspektiv då dessa har behövts analyseras i kombination med varandra för att på ett tillfredställande sätt kunna analysera området.

Ever since the remains of the ancient city of Pompei was rediscovered in the 18th century it became an important destination for artists and architects. The unique settings made it possible to study the greek and roman art and life which was considered important having knowledge about. As a complement to the architectural education at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm the students could gain funds to make a Grand Tour and visit Pompei.The aim in this study is to explain the study tours the architects made to Pompei by studying their experiences at the site. Fredrik Wilhelm Scholander and Isak Gustaf Clason serves as examples of two swedish architects visiting Pompei on such a tour. In the study I describe why and how these tours were made and why Pompei was an important destination.

Pfizer är världens största läkemedelsföretag med omkring 112.000 anställda och med produktion vid 67 fabriker världen över. I Sverige finns produktionsanläggningar i Stockholm, Uppsala, Strängnäs och Helsingborg. Då läkemedelsbranschen är en av de mest synade och hårdast kontrollerade branscherna i världen ställer detta i sin tur höga krav på tillverkningsprocesserna. Examensarbetet har utförts vid produktionsanläggningen i Helsingborg, där bland annat rökavvänjningsmedlet Nicorette tillverkas. På grund av bristande processkännedom har företaget byggt upp kostnadskrävande kontrollsystem för att garantera att de produkter som levereras ligger inom specifikationsgränserna.

The project was made in cooperation with Coffee Queen AB, Arvika. The task was to develop and design a new cooler for the milk to Jura Impressa X9, an espresso machine. The good assistance with staff at Coffee Queen and engineers in China and at KPA in Karlstad led to a solution to the problem. It was a long road to get there, many different concepts was developed. When the day came to decide which concept to work with, the choice stood between two different technical solutions.

Take your phone out from your pocket and look at it. Chances are that a certain California-based company made it; in 2013, it was quite likely. If you flip it over and remove the shell you have added (or look through the protective film), you might also learn that it was assembled in China. Flip it over again and look at the picture of something or someone you find great affection for, protected by yet another thin film. While who made it and who assembled it might vary, and it does not matter from now on, the other parts about protective barriers and personalization might be more accurate.

Företag som tillverkar papper och massa använder sig av kontinuerlig tillverkning och är en del av processindustrin. Stora Enso är ett företag inom pappers-, förpacknings- och träproduktsindustrin med 85 tillverkningsenheter över hela världen. En av dessa enheter är Skutskärs Bruk som producerar pappers- och fluffmassa.Skutskärs Bruk har i nuläget förluster i sin tillverkning av fluffmassa som de har svårt att spåra orsaker till. De är inte nöjda med de inkorrekta lagersaldona och den rapportering som de har idag. Syftet med detta arbete är att skapa en modell för förbättring av produktionsekonomi inom pappers- och massaindustrin under processens avslutande delar, det vill säga från torkning till lagring.

In this essay I have summarized important factors for an effective, but also successful, way to raise and house heifers. This study can be used for other dairy farms to use as guidelines in their process to raise heifers. To let outside heifer growers house, feed and have the heifers pregnant before return, can save a lot of work. But also moneywise, when the care and individual programs makes them strong and increases the growth.The result is a faster breeding and an earlier time for their first calving.In Sweden the heifers tend to be older if you compare with Denmark or United States where the custom heifer raising is well known and growing. One reason can be the Swedish laws regarding outside grassing for all cows during the summer months.

Syftet med detta arbete är att förbättra ett verktyg för strängsprutning (extrudering). Arbetet består av tre faser (konstruktion, tillverkning och statistiska analyser). Omkonstruktionen sker med hänsyn till en del områden som har potential för optimering. Man börjar med en förstudie för att lära sig mer om verktyget och produktionscykeln och för att få en bättre helhetsbild. Innan arbetets start fastläggs en del avgränsningar, så att studenterna får en ram att jobba inom.

The way to acquire forest in Sweden from parents has been unequal, men were prioritized over women, which was the traditional inheritance pattern. Research has made this clearer by using gender, which ?values? our stereotypes of sexes and can help us understand inheritance patterns. The gender determined who would inherit but also the form of ownership, praxis, property rights, regulations, power and work invested made by a sibling could influence. The purpose with my study was to find what conditions governed inheritance of forest on the properties I investigated and what influence gender had.

This thesis work resulted in a template for how the thermal spray process can be controlled through robot programs. The robots today and their programs need to be replaced, therefore a new structure which can be matched with the new robot systems is needed. The work is limited to only concern structured programming on the new robots on Thermal Spray Centre (TC) with the programming language Rapid. The basic data for the program was retrieved from interviews with concerned personnel at TC, from studies on process parameters for thermal spray and from existing specifications at Volvo Aero Corporation (VAC). The thesis work briefly describes the process thermal spray and the four methods used at VAC.
