Gender Mainstreaming - Kioskvältare eller dagslända?
The European Union's work on equal opportunities for women and men can be described historically in three eras; equal treatment, positive action and, most recently, the gender perspective. In accordance with the latter, gender mainstreaming is the latest method in dealing with these issues. Its aim is the implementation of the gender perspective in all policy processes and to challenge the male norm that permeates all decision making. EU:s work on equal opportunities, though, persists not only of gender mainstreaming but has a double approach also including special actions.This thesis bases its argumentation on discourse analysis of communications from the Commission regarding employment and social affairs. It argues that the two components of the double approach; gender mainstreaming and special actions, are incompatible and even becomes contra productive put together.
Hur science parks och inkubatorer kan stötta kommersialiseringen av idéer sprungna från näringslivet: En studie av Science Park Jönköping samt några företag i regionen
This master thesis has been written in collaboration with Science Park Jönköping and is based on a problem related to corporate innovation. Science Park Jönköping believes that there is an untapped potential in existing industry in the form of ideas that are never commercialized. These theories are also supported in the research in which other authors have perceived that the ideas and inventions which do not belong to the core business risk ending up in drawers. If more of these ideas could be spin-offs or other forms of enterprise instead of staying in the drawers it would lead to growth, both for companies and for the society in large.The purpose of the thesis work is to, based on the case Science Park Jönköping, analyze how science parks and incubators can support the commercialization of ideas that derive from industry, who otherwise had been left lying. The work began with a mapping of the Science Park Jönköping operations and the skills they possess, and then other initiatives that aim to commercialize more ideas from companies were examined.

The social network is of great significance on olderpeople's physical and mental health. Aim: The overall purpose is to examine the knowledgeof social network and the health of the elderly. Method: Litterature review, using threedifferent databases, CINAHL, PubMed and Scoupus for searching of articles, with differentcombinations of keywords. Results: Different types of social networks have both positive andnegative effects on health.
Kan Hedvig lösa De mystiska tecknen? : en studie av två biblioteksdataprogram för barn
This thesis examines which function the information technology may have in thechildren's library, with the example from two library computer programmes. One is anexpert system, Hedvig, which will help children to choose and to find books, and theother is a computer game, The mysterious signs, that will teach children library user education.The main question is: What conceptions do the project-leaders, the children'slibrarians and the children have concerning the function of these two programmes in thechildren's library?The study is based upon qualitative interviews with two projects-leaders, fourlibrarians, three computer programmers and twenty-eight children.The theoretical material consists of examples on other library computer programmesfor children developed in Denmark and USA, some American studies in children'sabilities to use computerized information retrieval systems, and studies concerningchildren's relations to computers.The adult's conceptions of the computer programmes are divided into categories asfollows: Democracy, aspect of sex, complement, marketing, reading promotion,development of competence, information technology development, pedagogics, adulteducational activities, compensation and armusement, pedagogics, usefulness,effectiveness and information. There is a wide arrange of sources where this could be found. One of the most important, due to the great influence it has on consumer choice, is in-store communications. This is also one of the least developed sources. It is not uncommon that the only facts that can be acquired are found on product packaging and from contact with the store´s staff.

In February 2002 the European commission put forward a proposal for a new directive on The patentability of computer-implemented inventions, but which during my work on this essay has not been decided on yet. The directive has divided the decision-makers in the union, the commission and parliament, into two different positions regarding by which range computer-implemented inventions should be patentable. The parliament has amended the commissions proposal in a substantial way and the legal process has caused a heated debate both within the unions administration and among various interest groups both in favour of and against a patent on computer-implemented inventions. The loudest protests have come from a group that feels threatened by a possible software patent: Open Source. In this study I examine both the arguments by the decision-makers and by the lobbying for and against the proposal.

This relatively new approach to online shopping requires that retailers adjust to new strategies related to trust issues. The purpose of this study is to examine how social networks affect the establishment of trust between retailers and customers in mobile commerce. We investigate what kind of strategies retailers apply in order for consumers to gain trust in the mobile environment.

This essay examines how three big Swedish newspapers depicts e-sports and computer gaming and how the depiction change during 2000-2013. The study will also examine whether e-sports is being portrayed as competitive sport. The purpose is to investigate which attitudes that can be identified towards computer gaming and its culture in major newspapers such as Aftonbladet, Dagens Nyheter and Svenska Dagbladet and how these attitudes eventually changed over time. The sources that will be used in both the quantitative and qualitative analysis are based on web articles, mainly because the paper editions does not provide much, if any, information about computer gaming and e-sports and also because of the convenience of being able to quickly find articles to study. Results indicate that computer gaming is being depicted in a clear negative fashion during 2000-2006, and that the depiction of e-sports is somewhat positive but not as glorifying as for the years 2007-2013. During this period, there is a apparent tendency of e-sports being introduced to readers who are unfamiliar with the gaming culture. As for the attitudes towards computer gaming, the depiction is still somewhat negative, mainly because the debate about computer games and violence was revived because of several acts of violence in shape of school massacres and mass murder.

In my paper I have compared popular science and neutral science regarding language and construction. My task was to find out if there are differences between the language of popular science and that of scientific science. The purpose of my paper is to answer four questions1.How do the authors present the bogbodies and the mummies in the two categories?2.What does the popular science imagine that you want to read about?3.Is there a difference between the target groups of the two categories?4. Does the presentation of the subject have consequenses when it comes to contents and readers?I have studied how often the authors use drawings, photos, diagrams, maps, and if the titles of the chapters can tell you something about the nature of books.

Due to the very progressive development of computer technology and especially 3D-graphic boards yesterdays imagination of visualizations, today is a reality. At Saab Bofors Dynamics in Linköping missile systems are developed. Through the development, different subsystems are simulated before the manufacturing starts. Från OMT till UML - ett nödvändigt val?
Vid objektorienterad systemutveckling är det viktigt att man genomför en
analys- och designfas, dels för att man inom ett utvecklingsteam lättare ska
kunna visualisera hur ett system är tänkt att bli och dels för att kunna fånga
och åskådliggöra kundens krav. Till sin hjälp i dessa faser har man
metoder/processer och modelleringsspråk. Varje företag har i regel haft sin
egen variant av ovan nämnda, men allteftersom kom kravet på en gemensam
standard att bli oundvikligt. Sedan ett antal år tillbaka finns nu en standard.
Trots det finns det säkert företag kvar som ännu inte antagit denna standard.
Öppen källkod och offentlig sektor
Användandet, eller frånvaron, av öppen källkodsprogramvaror inom offentlig
sektor är något som på senare tid har diskuterats flitigt både i artiklar och i
internetanslutna diskussionsforum. Den offentliga sektorns behov av
investeringar i nya IT-system kommer dessutom att öka i och med realiseringen
av Statskontorets vision om 24-timmarsmyndigheten. Detta examensarbete
undersöker hur välbekant begreppet öppen källkod är, vilka attityder som finns
mot begreppet och hur stor utbredningen av öppen källkodsprogramvaror är hos
Sveriges kommuner.
Av resultatet framkommer att 60 % av alla IT-chefer och motsvarande i
kommunerna känner till begreppet väl, att 80 % av alla tillfrågade upplever
öppen källkod som något positivt och att drygt 30 % av alla kommuner redan
använder någon form av programvara baserad på öppen källkod. De viktigaste
fördelarna med öppen källkodsprogramvaror är den låga kostnaden, tillgången
till all källkod och att man snabbt kan få del av andras förbättringar.
I flera länder i både Europa och Asien, såväl som Sydamerika förekommer
rekommendationer, eller åtminstone diskussioner, om hur öppen källkod bäst kan
användas för att stödja den offentliga sektorn i respektive länder. För att
användningen av öppen källkodsprogramvaror skall ta fart även bland Sveriges
kommuner krävs fler leverantörer av support och andra kringtjänster,
ytterligare förbättring av säkerheten hos programvarorna, samt mer information
om vad begreppet faktiskt innebär..
Att bryta isoleringen - sociala faktorer i nätbaserad distansutbildning
Detta projekt fokuserar på distansstudenter och deras studiesituation i tre
nätbaserade kurser. Genom en empirisk studie bestående av samtal med studenter
och lärare, samt deltagande observation, har vi försökt finna lösningar för att
förbättra studenternas lärandemiljö. De sociala faktorerna visade sig vara av
stor betydelse i en studieform som tidigare kännetecknats av isolation mellan
studenter och lärare. Projektet visar på hur en nätbaserad utbildningsplattform
genom enkla tekniska lösningar kan ta hänsyn till studentens behov i fråga om
att stödja kommunikation och samarbete..
