This report is a bachelor thesis presented at the department of Computer Science andEngineering at Chalmers University of Technology. The aim for the project is to find a simplemethod to measure and display physical quantities in a three dimensional room.The report describes a method to construct a system for measuring differentphysical quantities via sensors. The system must be built in a modular and expandable way tobe adaptable to different tasks.The system explained in the report consists of two parts;A physical scanner with moveable probes for carrying sensors and a microcontroller forcontrolling the probes and communicating with the next part.An application written in Java for storing the measured values and presenting them in a lucidperspective.It is possible to construct the scanner with different designs and circuitry, with multiplexers andflip-flops, to ensure that an unspecified number of probes can be added to the system and thatthey can be operated simultaneously.The Java application is written in a modular way, using a design pattern that separates eachindividual part of the application. It contains exceptions and interfaces that ensure a safe andexpandable application..

Stratego is a boardgame not very different from chess, that contains hidden information. Because of this, existing programs play at beginner level. The purpose of this thesis is to adjust a minimax algorithm so that it passes the demands of Stratego, and then build a Stratego agent around it. Tests with existing minimax algorithms leads to the development p-e-minimax. This algorithm uses two different values in its nodes to simulate the different information available to the agent and its opponent.

This master thesis was written in the purpose to study how the location and access to computers in the physical realm of the public library reflects the undergoing changes in the public libraries role in Swedish society. This study is done in a form of a case study of three small public libraries. All of them were in the process of transforming both their physical and virtual space. The thesis focuses on where in the library the computers are placed and how their location interacts with the libraries main tasks. It also focuses on the analysis of the relationship between these two elements and how that relationship reflects the alteration of the public libraries place in society.

This paper is about the new programming language from Microsoft, C# (See Sharp) and the .NET Framework. They are still in beta-version, but will be released on the market in February 2002. This paper presents C#, not in detail but the characteristics that distinguish the language. A comparison is done with C++ and Java, since C# is most resembling to these languages. Both C# and Java have been developed from the mother- language C++.

The aim with this study is to explore if and how linguistic learning takes places when four pairs ofstudents in grade one writes on the computer. Observations of eight students took place duringtwelve lessons to investigate what happened during their writing processes. This study isimportant because students? computer writing is a relatively new phenomenon in the Swedishprimary school.It is clear that the peer collaboration creates a complex interaction that becomes the platform, andalso the prerequisite, for successful language training. The method can clearly give students profitsin their linguistic development.

Climate change and the sea level rise that it contributes to is an ever more pressing issue for costal municipalities around the world. Today there is a great deal of scientific reports and projections on what these changes could entail. However, resent studies on south Swedish costal municipalities have shown great discrepancies when it comes to how these scientific projections are implemented in the municipal planning and adaptation strategies. In an effort to understand the underlying reasons for this lack of concurrence, this paper has applied Rolf Lidskogs theory of the hetrogenity of science. The theory gives an explanation to the complications in the science-policy interface, by describing complicating factors in the communication between these actors.

This master thesis has been written in collaboration with Science Park Jönköping and is based on a problem related to corporate innovation. Science Park Jönköping believes that there is an untapped potential in existing industry in the form of ideas that are never commercialized. These theories are also supported in the research in which other authors have perceived that the ideas and inventions which do not belong to the core business risk ending up in drawers. If more of these ideas could be spin-offs or other forms of enterprise instead of staying in the drawers it would lead to growth, both for companies and for the society in large.The purpose of the thesis work is to, based on the case Science Park Jönköping, analyze how science parks and incubators can support the commercialization of ideas that derive from industry, who otherwise had been left lying. The work began with a mapping of the Science Park Jönköping operations and the skills they possess, and then other initiatives that aim to commercialize more ideas from companies were examined.

Skadeplatsarbete är en arbetsform med en speciell karaktär. Det som formar denna karaktär är dess uppkomst genom inträffandet av en olycka av något slag. Detta medför att olika aktörer och aktörsgrupper temporärt stålar samman och genomför ett samarbete med utgångspunkt från platsen för det inträffade. Ambulans, brandkår, polis och SOS Alarm AB är de vanligaste aktörsgrupperna på en skadeplats. Att rädda liv är ett samarbete mellan olika aktörsgruppers på en skadeplats. För att detta skall möjliggöras ställs det höga krav på både deltagande aktörer och de kommunikationsartefakter som används.

The objective of the study is to map the cognitive structure of Library and Information Science, using a quantitative, bibliometric method. This empirical study shows how co-citation analysis combined with word-frequency analysis can be used to describe the subject content of the field. The research questions to be answered are: -Which clusters of authors can be identified? -How can these clusters be described in respect of their subject content, if the descriptors associated with the authors in the clusters are counted? The results show that the cognitive structure of Library and Information Science can be described by 13 clusters of authors, where each cluster is representing a specific aspect of the subject- domain. Science center har visat sig vara en utmärkt plats för undervisning. Detta är en studie av på vilket sätt ett skolbesök på ett science center kan bidra till att målen för år 9 uppnås och om ett besök på ett science center kan utgöra ett komplement till den vanliga skolundervisningen. Särskilt studeras ämnesområdet astronomi och kosmologi (universum och vårt solsystem) i ämnet fysik. Undersökningen är gjord på Universeum i Göteborg. Metoden i undersökningen är intervjuer och observationer.

This Master thesis aims to illuminate nine librarians relation to professional information. This is accomplished by focusing on five questions: How do they communicate and acquire professional information, and how do they evaluate its relevance? What are their experiences of continuing professional education? What are their opinions on the academicalisation of the education? Is it possible to perceive something of the librarians professional project in the informants statements? What is their relation to the academic subject of library and information science and the research on the area? The analysis is based upon the interviews with nine librarians and carried out with profession theory in order to study the role of theoretic knowledge in our participants professionalisation processes. We also use different context oriented theories to study the contextual dimension of information need and seeking. The conclusions of this Master thesis reveal that the communication between the theory of library and information science and the practice need to be improved if we want to see more of an evidence-based librarianship.

Preciform AB är ett legotillverkande företag i Eskilstuna som har specialiserats sig på djupdragning, svetsning, slipning och formning av tunnplåt samt ytbehandling och montering. Företaget har som en del av sin produktion montage av Scuffplate till Volvo XC90-R-design.Från 2012 kommer VCC att ändra utseende på XC90-R-design, vilket innebär för Preciforms del att det blir en förväntad ökning av dagstakten samt att det kommer ställa ökade krav på logistiken runt Scuffplatemonteringen, vilket dagens process inte är anpassad för. Syftet med det här examensarbetet, som är en del av en förstudie på Preciform är att förbättra monteringsprocessen, skapa en överskådlig hantering samt lagerutrymme för ett ökat antal artiklar av ingående material.Tidsstudier av genomloppstid, processtid, godshantering och transporter samt gångstudie genomfördes för att identifiera förbättringsåtgärder, där de olika studierna tjänade som underlag vid beräkningar och jämförelser före och efter implementering av förbättringsåtgärder.Analyser av studierna visade att en av scuffplatemonteringens sex klart avgränsade stationer hade en högre genomloppstid än de andra. Föreslagna förbättringsåtgärder har syftat till att jämna ut takten i monteringsprocessen och reducera waste.En ny layout presenterades och efter viss modifiering implementerades den tillsammans med merparten av förbättringsförslagen.Beräkningar av tillgänglig tid i monteringen visar att en annan arbetsfördelning och indelning av stationer är möjlig i ett fortsatt förbättringsarbete.Jämförelser mellan gammal och ny layout visar på en reduktion av waste i genomloppstiden med 32 procent och en stegreducering med 30 procent.En fortsatt verksamhetsutveckling kommer att reducera tid och steg ytterligare. Resultaten av vidtagna förbättringsåtgärder kan utgöra grunden för en ny förbättringsprocess enligt principerna för Demings hjul.

Problem/frågeställningar: När företagsledare runt om i världen ska ta beslut uppgår 40% av dessa beslut till att baseras på magkänslan. Ett påstående kring konkurrensfördelar och magkänsla är att ?ett av de största hindren för konkurrensfördelar är att agera enbart på magkänsla eller intuition?. Denna uppsats tar fasta på det påståendet och granskar hur BI, ett verktyg som stödjer företagsledarna i sina beslut, spelar in. Ett synsätt för att studera konkurrensfördelar är det resursbaserade synsättet, där resurser följaktligen är grunden i det som skapar konkurrensfördelar.
