This thesis is an investigation of Iranian immigrants and their use of libraries in Sweden. It isbased on a combination of a qualitative and a·quantitative method.Using a qualitative method, I give an outline of the history of lran from ancient times up to the present, as well as the different ethnological groups in Iran and their cultures. The main objective of this part is to clarify the contrasts between Iranian and Swedish cultural, social, linguistic and family structures, and also the characteristics of the crisis that most immigrants go through on their arrival in the new country. The qualitative method also involves structured telephone interviews with eight highly educated Iranians.This method was supplemented by a quantitative study through questionnaires of the attitudes· of lranian immigrants to libraries and reading. Iranians in Sweden turned out to be frequent Iibrary users.

The aim of this study was to examine how children in ages 3 to 4 use the public library with the research questions: What does children?s, in ages between 3 and 4, information behavior look like when they visit a public library in leisure time with a parent? What is the nature of interaction between child and parent, child and the staff of the library, and between child and other visitors? What is the function of the cultural tools in relation to the children?s information behavior? The theoretical frame of reference consisted of Lev Vygotsky?s ?the zone of proximal development? and Roger Säljö?s theory about using cultural tools. To answer the questions I have observed 4 children together with their mothers and siblings at a public library. From the result of the observations I found that every child had their own information behavior. Two of the children only used one kind of cultural tool ? books.

The aim of this thesis is to study how the recent introduction of video games in Swedish public libraries compares to past introductions of other medias, namely music records, sequential art, manga (Japanese Comics), and films on video. In what ways does the introduction of video games differ from the other examples of introductions and in what ways are they alike? In what manner have the medias been introduced? How does the librarians views on video games differ from their views on other medias? The purpose of doing this is that by investigating how new medias have been evaluated in the past, we might gain an understanding of how the introduction of video games links into that tradition. Theoretically, this thesis is grounded in Sanna Talja?s theory of the interpretative repertoires of the music library.

Denna undersökning ställer frågor kring omförhandling av genus och maskulinitet genom förekomsten av homosexuella hjältar i superhjälteserier, och hur homosexuella superhjältar bryter mot maskulina normer. Under ?taket? för socialkonstruktionism utgår undersökningen från genusteorier och visuell kultur. Med fokus på Avengers: The Children?s Crusade, en superhjälteserie från förlaget Marvel Comics, granskas amerikanska mainstreamserier.

The purpose of this essay is to examine Marjane Satrapi?s comic novel Persepolis from a gender and postcolonial perspective. To reach this I have used several theories from mainly three different fields of theory: gender studies, postcolonial theories and theoretical texts which focus on the form of Comics.My analysis has shown that idols, heroes and other cultural symbols are important for the creation of the main character Marji?s identity, but that she at the same time has many Marxistic influences. These casts of mind do not stand in opposition, but become an expression for her hybridity.

SammanfattningSyfte och frågeställningarSyftet med uppsatsen var att studera och analysera de budskap som förmedlas i samband med idrott i serietidningen Bamse. Frågeställningarna i arbetet var på vilket sätt förmedlingen sker respektive vilka budskap det är som förmedlas. MetodDatainsamlingen skedde genom textundersökning och bildanalys. Antalet årgångar av tidningen som studerades var sju (mellan år 2001 och 2007). Utöver detta studerades två nummer av Bamse-extra. Samtliga episoder i de angivna utgåvorna lästes igenom, men endast de delar analyserades där något idrottsinslag på ett eller annat sätt var bärande av budskap.
