I den här konsumtionsuppsatsen ligger fokus på hur livet i Sverige skildras för både en etnisk svensk och för en invandrare i läroböcker för SFI samt svenska som andraspråk. Forskningsområdet är tämligen outforskat och litteraturen som har använts i arbetet har hittats via litteratursökningar i olika databaser samt Bibliotekets katalog. Som metod har jag använt mig av allmän litteraturstudie och har valt studier utifrån ämnesrelevans för uppsatsen.Först och främst skildras lärobokens roll i samhället och vikten av läromedelsanalyser samt de relevanta forskningsfrågorna. Därefter får man läsa om hur arbetet har skrivits och analyserats utifrån ett forskningsöversiktligt perspektiv. Detta följs av själva analysen där man kommer fram till att den analyserade litteraturen pekar på att det ofta skildras en stereotyp bild av Sverige och dess invånare i läroböcker inom SFI och svenska som andraspråk.

The aim of this study is to investigate the public libraries use of their websites in their marketing. Our study is based on the websites of 60 public libraries. The libraries are chosen because of their geographical location in three different provinces? Skåne in the south, Östergötland in the middle and Norrbotten in the north. These three choices enable us to cover densely as well as thinly populated areas, the agricultural district, the woodland and cities of various sizes.

The purpose of this study is to investigate information seeking habits among young persons with mild mental disability. We wanted to know how they seek information in everyday life, barriers they experience when seeking information and also if they consider the library to be a source of information.The theoretical background of this study is based on the works of T. D. Wilson and Michael Buckland. Wilson?s model of information seeking behavior and seeking information was used as a tool analyzing the results from the interviews.

This essay takes its point of departure in the need for modern day public libraries to legitimize their place in today?s society. Societal changes call for constant reinvention of libraries and as part of this reinvention, new light is being shed on the public library?s role as a meeting place. By investigating contemporary debate articles published in Bibliotek i samhälle and Biblioteksbladet, two major Swedish library magazines, this essay aims to categorize and compare different conceptions of the library?s function as a meeting place.

This essay is about how the library can make a difference inintegrating the minority Roma people into the Swedish society.Roma people have been subjected to persecution anddiscrimination for a long time. In this essay, I examine theactivities, functions and capabilities of libraries that can have apositive effect for the integration of the Roma people. Myquestions are: How can libraries reach out to the Roma people andwhat function do the library have for the integration of the Romapeople? I have used Marianne Anderssons and Dorte Skot-Hansens theory the four functions of the library ? the culutralcenter, the knowledge center, the information center and the socialcenter. Based on this theory, I have interpreted and analyzed thematerial that I have gathered through interviews and literaturestudies such as thesis, dissertations, repors and parliamentdocuments.

The Royal Library (KB) of Sweden harbours great collections of different objects through a special law from 1661. This master degree paper is exploring a part of KB?s digitisation of those collections. It deals with the questions about what the KB had chosen for digitisation, why those choices were maid and who is responsible for making these decisions. The paper will also for example seek out different patterns and trends in the information.

The aim of this masters thesis is to examine the supply of magazines and periodicals for young people at the library. We also examine young peoples reading of magazines and periodicals and compare the librarys selection with what young people read. The main questions of this thesis are: What do young people do at the library on their spare time? What weekly magazines and periodicals do young people read? What range of magazines and periodicals do the city- and the school library have? Where is the department located and how is it designed? What kind of relationship is there between young peoples reading and the selection? To answer these questions we have done an interview with a librarian and a questionnaire among 13-16 year old children. We found that it is not often that young people read their magazines and periodicals at the library.

We have carried out a study of a classification system for the Swedish collection at The Royal Library in Stockholm from 1887. It was printed in 50 copies. The constructor, Bernhard Lundstedt, and his colleagues used it as guidance in lack of a catalogue. We regard it a local classification system. Little research has been done on old classification systems, but Francis Miksa points out the importance of examining them.

The aim of this study was about how librarians in Sweden work with their web page to reach young people between the ages of fifteen and nineteen. Most of the youths in Sweden today use Internet every day for several reasons, and the library should have an obvious place there as well. It shouldbe obvious because almost all youths uses Internet every day and therefore the library needs to be seen there as well to reach out to them. Earlier research has shown that librarians and youths think differently in this question. Youths think that the library web page is more important for the librarythan the librarians do.How do the librarians work with marketing for youths on the web page? Do their policy documents help them in their work?To study this area we have interviewed librarians from six quite large public libraries from different parts of thecountry.

Detta arbete undersöker hur den så kallade minoritetsreformen, som kom 2010, har påverkat arbetet med material på samiska på Umeå stadsbibliotek. För att ta reda på detta har vi använt oss av kvalitativa intervjuer med bibliotekarier på stadsbiblioteket och Samernas bibliotek samt en representant för Umeå kultur. Intervjuerna visade på ett antal utmaningar och svårigheter i detta arbete, framförallt knutet till beståndsutveckling och förvärv samt synliggörandet av den samiska litteraturen. Analysen förhåller sig till och bygger vidare på tidigare studier som berör de svenska bibliotekens arbete med de nationella minoriteterna och minoritetsspråken. Det som framförallt framgår i såväl intervjuerna som källmaterialet är ett tydligt behov av utrymme och resurser för arbetet samt material som tilltalar de tänkta användarna.

The aim of our study is to gain understanding of how parentsperceive their own, the preschool's, and the library's efforts to stimulate preschoolers' enjoyment and yearning to read, as well as what types of collaborative efforts the parents seek.The study is based upon qualitative interviews with parents, both mothers and fathers, to preschool children (aged 1.5 to 6 years old). The analysis does not offer any generalizations. We have chosen to use a sociocultural perspective as the theoretical starting-point of our study, our thoughts being that we learn together with and by the help of others. We consider this perspective to be closely related to Aidan Chambers's "The Reading Circle", which we have chosen to use as our tool of analysis.It turned out that the parents perceived their own reading stimulating role as crucial, even if they did not consider all they did as reading stimulative. Some things, such as discussing the book while reading, occurred naturally but is also an important part to stimulate reading.

Syftet med detta arbete är att genom genusgranskning av ett antal svenska barnböcker under en tioårsperiod, undersöka hur karaktärerna och relationer har framställs. Kan man se ett mönster när det gäller genus i bilderböckerna för barn och på så sätt förstå, vad dessa böcker förmedlar, angående kön och genus? Kan en förändring över tid ses, hur kan denna i sådana fall förklaras? I enlighet med syftet valdes tre olika bokserier vars innehåll djupanalyserades med fokus på genus. Valet av böcker var baserat på uppgifter från Bibliotekets efterfrågan samt uppgifter från förskoleavdelningarna på en mellansvensk förskola.I större delen av den äldre valda litteraturen var huvudpersonerna pojkar och män. De kvinnor som förekom var beskrivna som underordnade.

This bachelor thesis examines the library as a public sphere in the notion of Jürgen Habermas? theory from 1962. The questions asked concerns how the public sphere is discussed in relation to Swedish public libraries today in our late modern society. The analyzed material consists of the Swedish Cultural Bill of 2009 and five qualitative interviews with librarians. The material is analyzed with two of the four social actions presented by the sociologist Maw Weber: value-rational and instrumental.

Barnlitteraturen är en av barnets första massmediala kontakter. Den tillsammans med annan media påverkar individen i samhället stor som liten. Syftet med denna studie var att undersöka hur barn och vuxna gestaltas i bilderboken, sett ur ett genusperspektiv. Vår ambition var att se hur flickor och pojkar, kvinnor och män presenteras, både med egenskaper och till utseende i bilderboken, då det i resterande samhälle och kultur existerar en könsmaktsordning som bland annat polariserar könen genom att tillskriva dem olika egenskaper, beteenden och utseenden.Vi har gjort en kvalitativ studie och använt oss utav Bibliotekets topplistor, under augusti och september månad 2012 i Umeå regionen. Dessa böcker granskades för att sen sammanställas med hjälp utav tematisk analys.Ur empirin gick det att utläsa att i majoriteten av böckerna finns ett tydligt isärhållande av kön och de traditionella könsrollerna lever på så sätt kvar.
