The aim of this thesis is to examine possibilities concerning subject access to fiction film, i.e. appropriate ways to describe fiction film for subject retrieval. Problems regarding subject indexing in general, and subject indexing of fiction film in particular, are identified, as well as the uniqueness of fiction film and film genres. Four types of subject aspects are discussed: form and genre, fictitious characters, setting, and general topics. Several guidelines, form- and genre lists, and subject headings lists are examined and treated as potential indexing tools.

Ett antal bibliotek i Sverige, med Kungliga biblioteket i spetsen, har tagit beslut att byta klassifikationssystem från SAB-systemet till Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC). Den aspekt på denna övergång som utreds här är att ur ett användarperspektiv utvärdera Kungliga Bibliotekets förslag på hylluppställningar som biblioteken kan använda sig av vid en övergång till DDC. Först jämför jag hur SAB och DDC:s huvudklasser skiljer sig åt och därefter diskuterar jag de olika hylluppställningarna ur ett användarperspektiv. SAB-systemet har 25 huvudklasser och DDC endast tio. Detta innebär att SAB-systemet har mer utkristalliserade ämnen i sina huvudklasser, medan DDC behandlar fler ämnen i varje huvudklass. SAB-systemet har fokus på humanistiska ämnen, medan naturvetenskapliga ämnen hamnar längre ned i systemet.

Umeå universitetsbibliotek är en plats där studenter inte bara kan få tillgång till information och material de behöver, utan det är även en plats där det finns möjlighet att studera. Universitetsbiblioteket har genomfört användarundersökningar, men i dessa framkommer inte icke-användarnas åsikter och det är därför av intresse att undersöka varför somliga studenter väljer att inte studera på biblioteket. Syftet med denne utvärdering var att få en inblick i varför en del inte studerar i universitetsbiblioteket och om brister i studiemiljön eller studenters kännedom om den kan vara bidragande orsaker till detta. Frågeställningarna som skulle besvaras var: Vad är det som gör att studenter inte väljer att studera i universitetsbiblioteket? Är något fel i den nuvarande studiemiljön? Känner studenterna inte till vad biblioteket har att erbjuda? För att besvara frågorna genomfördes en enkätundersökning bland studenter på campus, enkäten var anpassad så att både användare och icke-användare skulle kunna besvara den och enkäten hade en fråga för att kunna se vilka som var icke-användare.

Syftet med denna uppsats är att med hjälp av Erving Goffmans dramaturgiska perspektiv undersöka biblioteket TioTretton som plats för rollgestaltning och ta reda på vilka slags roller som görs tillgängliga för barn som besöker biblioteket. Detta har gjorts genom att intervjua skolärare och bibliotekspersonal och analysera deras tal om barnen och biblioteket. Resultatet visar att TioTretton kan ses som en bakre region i förhållande till det vuxna samhället i stort, men också till de team som utgörs av barnen själva och deras umgängeskretsar. Det har även framkommit att den vuxnes roll i förhållande till barnen varierar. Vikten av någon som leder framträdandet, oavsett utgångspunkt, framhålls dock överlag.

Our aim with this study has been to show the central factors that we consider have had animpact on public libraries in the "information society". We have studied two communities in the south of Sweden, Ronneby and Sölvesborg. These two communities have both started a development to the IT society, a society where information plays a great role, where the technique is the tool that supplies information.Ronneby community had early the aim to be the chief Swedish information center. A priority on information technology has therefore been obvious for them. Sölvesborg community has had another method and time schedule towards the IT society.We have been studying the documentation of aim and the strategy for IT development in different levels.

Uppsatsen är en biografisk och receptionshistorisk studie av en svensk nutida konstnär. Tidningarnas recensioner och artiklar, personliga samtal med Johan Thunberg och analys av Thunbergs målningar ger underlag till uppsatsen. Materialet har hämtats från Bibliotekets mikrofilmsarkiv, tidningarnas internetarkiv och konstnärens hemsida på Internet med länkar till Konstnärslexikonet Amanda och Svenska konstnärer. Vid informationsinsamlandet av underlaget till uppsatsen har långsamt en ?bild? av Johan Thunbergs konstnärliga verksamhet vuxit fram som idag år 2011 kan ses som en mindre affärsrörelse. En intressant del i affärsrörelsen, förutom den konstnärliga kreativiteten att framställa originalmålningar, är marknadsföringen av enmansföretaget.

The aim of this bachelor thesis has been to examine and develop our own understanding about how young people in Sweden (16-29 years of age), take part in cultural activities. As librarians it is important to know what kind of activities and interests this particular group has. With Pierre Bourdieu?s theoretical framework towards habitus and capital we are interested to see if there is a connection between one?s cultural use and background, if different access to capital with or within groups has an affect or not. With both statistics and interviews with people within our target, we believe this data has been sufficient enough to conduct a good and valid study.

Syftet med utvärderingen var att ta reda på vad besökarna tyckte om tidningshallen på Umeå stadsbibliotek. Besökarna fick i en enkät svara på frågor om belysning, ljudnivå, möbler och utbud. De fick även svara på om de använde datorerna i tidningshallen och vilka dagstidningar de läst.Resultatet visar att besökarna överlag är nöjda med tidningshallen. Mest nöjda är de med belysningen och utbudet av tidningar och minst nöjda med ljudnivån. Vid undersökningstillfället pågick byggnadsarbete på andra sidan gatan vilket i hög grad påverkade ljudnivån.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the levels of social distance used by the librarians and users in the virtual reference interview. With a conversational analysis and applied politeness theory 49 chat transcripts where analysed in order to answer the question of how the interlocutors positioned themselves regarding the social distance between them. By identifying what communicative strategies where used the following results were found. Generally the social distance between librarians and users is low in the Swedish virtual reference interview. Even though both parties used informal and casual language the results indicate that the librarians face wants were valued slightly higher than the users which were illustrated by a some what higher social distance in the stages of the conversations when the librarians face was under most threat.

The aim of this master thesis is to explore what role libraries play in the educational process for university students suffering from dyslexia. The question at issue is whether the library is able to meet the needs of students who have difficulty in using the libraries main resource, i.e. printed documents and information in written form. An often expressed view indicates that the modern library creates a lot of obstacles for dyslectic students. The method used is a literature study followed by an empirical study in which interviews were conducted with four students suffering from dyslexia and studying at two different universities and using different libraries.

The purpose of this study is to determine who visits the V Frölunda Library, Gothenbug,what magazines they read and why. The data presented in this thesis are collectedusing four methods: general observation and counting numbers of visitors, interviewswith 202 magazine readers, the completion of 1308 questiomaires regarding approximately350 maghes and interviews with more than 100 library visitors.The data indicates that men are significantly overrepresented among magazine readersas compared to the female visitors. These men are primarily from the white collar sectorof the community. This leads to a pronounced underrepresentation of the blue coIlarworkers. Young people visit the magazine room in the library at a rate about twice thatexpected from the population distribution.Women are primarily interested in magazines dealing with the home whereas men aremore interested in business, cars, boats and sports.

The focus of this thesis is to examine posts on library?s Facebook pages and to investigate possible connections between posts and user response. The study examines posts published from thirty different libraries Facebook pages over a two week period to examine if any correlation between different subjects or types of posts affects the degree and type of response from the users.The findings show that photos stand for the majority of the published post concerning its type and that activities at the library was the most common subject of posts. After using eta as measure of association a tenuous connection between degree of response and the posts subject and between the degree of response and the type of post was found. The standard deviation, however, was high in the majority of the variables used.

The purpose of this study was to find out what are the information needs of the nurses and if the hospital library can satisfy these needs, and see how the hospital library reaches the nurses with their information provision. The main questions are: what kinds of service exist at the hospital library? What kinds of needs have the nurses concerning the hospital library? How are the needs satisfied by the hospital library? What marketing strategies are used by the hospital library to reach out to the nurses? Is it enough to achieve the goal? The method in this study was a case study with the emphasis on the qualitative interviews. The study was conducted at the hospital library at Södra Älvsborgs Sjukhus in Borås. The interviews concerned the nurses views on the hospital library, information needs and marketing.

The purpose of this study is to look into what part libraries take in the integration of mentally disabled persons into the society. What I wanted to know more about was how the mentally disabled persons experience the library. I also wanted to find out what librarians and persons working with mentally disabled persons have to say about the part libraries take in the integration of mentally disabled into the society. The study is based on interviews and literature studies. I have interviewed two librarians, four mentally disabled persons and two persons working with mentally disabled people.

The purpose of this Master?s thesis is to perform a user oriented evaluation of the International Library?s website. The questions posed in this study are; for what purpose do the users in this study turn to the International Library?s website; what does the users information searching process consist of when visiting the site; how does navigation, layout and content effect the users satisfaction with the website; do the users in this study consider that the International Library?s website can be improved and if so, how? The study was performed with a user oriented approach where six qualitative interviews with librarians who use the website were conducted. These interviews were analysed using Brenda Dervin?s Sense making-theory and Leclercq?s theory about user satisfaction.
