Utredning och uppföljning av adoptionshundars situation
There are some hazards associated with mediating dogs for adoption to Sweden from foreigncountries. Contagion is considered to be one of them, but this report focuses solely on what adoptionsmay signify to the dogs concerning animal welfare. The aim of this study is to investigate how thebusiness in Sweden is run and what this can imply to the adopted dogs. Websites of the organizationswhich perform mediation of dogs, has been examined to show which information is available. A webquestionnaire was sent to these organizations to learn more about their standard procedure.
Ryttarens tygelsignalers inverkan på hästens beteende och trycket i tyglarna
This essay derives from the concern that horses ridden with a bit in their mouth can be subjected to strong pressure from the bit if the horse and rider do not understand each other. The horse's mucosa membrane and the tongue are very sensitive tissues (Cook, 1999; Manfredi, 2005; Oliveira, 2005; Terada, 2006) and the bit can then be a source of pain and discomfort. The training of the horse should therefore always be a step by step process and as the horse develops difficulties are increased. Oliveira (2005) suggested that high demands can be placed on the horse but to be successful in the training it is essential to be content with small progress and reward the slightest desired response from the horse. This corresponds with the principles of operant conditioning with negative reinforcement.
Hur formas ett inlärningsklimat som är framgångsrikt över tid? : En observationsstudie om fotbollstränares beteenden och träningsaktiviteter
Aim and research questionsThe over-all aim of this study was to gain insight info how two male coaches of a specific soccer team behave in a practice environment with regards to educating the players.More specifically, the study sought to map the extent to which said behaviour matched two specific methods of learning; these being Teaching Games for Understanding (TgfU) and Enhanced Guided Discovery (EGD). Research questions: (1) Do the coaches employ the methods and guidelines, which are outlined in the educational plan provided by the soccer association? If so, what form does this application take in practice? (2) To what extent and in what ways do the coaches utilize feedback and questioning techniques in the education of players? (3) What similarities and differences in behaviour can be identified between the chosen soccer team?s two coaches?Method: The data for the study was collected through field observation. The subjects were two youth elite soccer coaches and observation of these coaches took place during five regular practice sessions on the soccer field. All data gathering and analysis were carried out using a modified version of the Coach Analysis and Intervention System (CAIS).
Tail posture and motion as a possible indicator of emotional state in pigs
In the current study, the aim was to investigate whether tail posture and motion can be an indicator of the emotional state of pigs and if the tail posture of the pig is affected by social breeding value (SBV), coping style and/or housing. Emotional state can be defined in two dimensions: valence and arousal. Two batches of 96 finishing pigs were studied in a one generation selection experiment with a 2x2 set up and were housed in a barren or straw bedded pen. In each pen, 6 pigs (3 male, 3 female) were housed. A back-test was done to determine the coping style of the pigs with two categories; high resister and low resister pigs.
Influence of providing objects to piglets before and after weaning on behaviour and weight gain
Barren rearing environment and early weaning of piglets can lead to a high level of distress, behavioural disturbances and reduction in weight gain. The main aim of this thesis was to study the effects of potential enrichment objects on piglet?s behaviour and weight gain during the pre- and post-weaning period. The second aim was to examine what type of object stimulated the highest frequency of interaction.
The study was carried out at the Swedish Livestock Research Centre in Lövsta where a batch of litters from 10 first-parity Yorkshire sows were used.
Beteendestudier och miljöberikning av gnagare
It is often challenging to create a new enrichment program for any animal. This is especially true with the additional challenge that I wanted to use only naturalistic enrichment, and I?m working with animals some of which are nocturnal. Even with a many hurdles, a little bit of enrichment can do a big difference and make a big difference in activity levels of the animals. Eskilstuna parkens zoo have a house called the MUSeum housing four kinds of rodents.
Socialsekreterares agerande gentemot ungdomar med ?problemskapande beteende" : En kvalitativ studie av hur användandet av BBIC upplevs och vilka beteenden som anses skapa problem
The aim of this study is to examine what social workers consider as ?challenging behaviour? among adolescents, but also to examine the connection between investigation and intervention in cases where such behaviour is being displayed. The questions of the study are to examine what social workers think of the instrument of assessment BBIC (Children?s Needs in Focus) and how the usage of BBIC affect social workers understanding of challenging behaviour. Moreover, it is a qualitative study and the respondents are all social workers with various length of professional experience who work with making decisions in juvenile welfare cases.
Training techniques used in training horses (Equus caballus) : with a focus on positive reinforcement
Instrumental conditioning, the use of reinforcement and punishment, is used when training horses and these procedures may have different consequences regarding animal welfare. The aim of this study was to investigate what kind of reinforcers that are used in training horses and when these reinforcers are used. This study has its focus on positive reinforcement and its advantages and disadvantages. Interviews of five A-level and B -level equestrian coaches about their training methods were conducted to complement the literature search and give a greater understanding to why certain methods are used or not in training horses. The results show that negative reinforcement seems to be the foundation of training horses whereas positive reinforcement is used but not to the same extent.
?What is going on??: En studie av internationella studenters informationsbehov på Högskolan i Borås
The purpose of this Bachelor?s thesis was to examine the information needs of the international students at the University of Borås. A further aim was to examine the types of information sources the international students was using to satisfy their information needs and the environmental factors keeping them from achieving this. This was done through focus group interviews with international students from four different countries ranging from the ages 20 ? 35.
Företags användning av tävlingar på sociala medier : Hur har sociala medier förändrat livsmedelsföretags tävlingar?
This study has examined how social media has changed food companies way of holding contests. The study examines how food companies use contests with the help of social media and how they used to do the contests before the use of social media. We have also researched the users Behaviours and opinions of companies contests on and outside of social media. In this study we have interviewed four people responsible for contests on the social media department on their respective food company. We also performed a survey that was published on Facebook and followed it up with interviews from two of the participants. This study has showed that contests on social media, as a technical aspect, have given new possibilities for the design of the contests. But there are still some unexplored areas around contests on Facebook and the companies do not know exactly what the users are demanding.
Magnetiska egenskaper hos Öje-Diabasen, Dalecarlia
A study of paleomagnetic remanence and anisotropy of magnetic
susceptibility (AMS) has been performed on the Öje-Diabase
in Dalarna, Sweden, and on basic dikes associated with the
alkaliquartzsyenite/granite Noran-pluton in central Sweden.
Based on isolation of directions of characteristic magnetization
in the basic rocks, a division into three different groups (A,B,C)
has been made. Group Aconsists of dolerites of Jotnian origin,
both dolerites from the Öje-Diabase and dikes associated with
the Noran-pluton are included in this group, making them coeval.
Group B is suspected to show a re-magnetization from the later part
of the Svekonorwegian orogeny. Group C belongs to the
Blekinge-Dalarna-Dolerites (BDD). Thermal demagnetization of
dolerites revealed two different types of demagnetization Behaviours,
one where magnetite clearly was the source of the remanence, and an
other with a linear decrease in magnetization intensity. The measurements
of magnetic anisotropy reveals a magnetic fabric with an almost
horizontal foliation and a lineation that indicates a fairly uniform NNW/
S-SE flow direction of the magma..
Kalvens beteende i olika uppfödningssystem :
The purpose of this literature review was to investigate how the rearing systems influence the behaviour of dairy calves. Calves are social animals that form groups within the herd where play and social licking between calves are important social activities. Suckling is a complex behaviour and essential for the calf's survival. In the modern rearing systems the calf is usually separated from its mother soon after birth. Calves are then kept in individual pens, group pens or, more rarely, with a foster cow.
Kommunikation, Motivation & Relationer : En kvalitativ studie om enhetschefers erfarenheter av ledarskapets inverkan pa? ha?lsan bland ansta?llda
The aim of this study is to understand first line managers experiences of the impact leadership have on the health of employees. The study focuses on leadership Behaviours and actions, experienced by first line managers working in elderly care, with either positive or negative outcomes on the employees health. To answer the purpose of the study a qualitative method was used and the data was collected through seven individual interviews. The analyse was conducted using theories of transformational, transactional and laissez-faire leadership. To enable a broader dimension to the study the concept of health-promotion leadership was also used in the analysis.
Stress hos hund ? stressreducerande åtgärder på vårdavdelningen
Stress is common in today?s society, but the word stress has numerous connotations. The aim of this study was to investigate how dogs are effected by stress and what the veterinary nurse can do to help dogs to avoid or at least mitigate stress within the veterinary hospital. The goal was also to see how dogs perceive the environment in the veterinary hospital and what Behaviours dogs demonstrate when they enter the hospital and during their stay.
Studies have shown that dogs have a reluctant feeling on entering a veterinary hospital. They can feel stressed by coming to a new environment, as well as by being put in a cage with no control over what is going to happen to them.
Hundägares och kattägares relation till sitt djur :
The relationship between the pet and it's owner is a very important and interesting
issue. Unfortunately there is not so much research on this and in addition to that
Swedish veterinarian education does not put much emphasis on pet's role in society
or their pattern of behaviour nor treatment. This thesis is based on an opinion poll
that 20 dog owners and 20 cat owners contributed. The main purpose of the thesis
was to compare the relationships that the pet (dog or cat) and its owner can have.
The issues such as the pet owner's attitude to his/her pet, how the pet owner
percieves and interprets the signals from the animal, and what they think about the
natural Behaviours and needs that their pets (might) have.
The results show that dog- and cat owners are people who generally love animals,
that they used to have even other animal species in the past, but when it comes to
choice between a new dog or a new cat they choose the one that they previously
have had and that they are used to. Most of a dog owners choose the dog to be their
pet because of the company while the majority of a cat owners choose cat because
cats are independent and they are used to cats.
