The purpose of this study was to identify the way in which history textbooks from the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s used for grades 7-9 depicts World War II from a eurocentric perspective. A qualitative textual analysis was used to achieve the purpose. Three history textbooks from each decade was included in the study, also comparisons have been made to see any changes over time. The study used John M. Hobson matrix describing how the Occident and the Orient are defined from a eurocentric perspective.

The study presented here is about how to make the special needs user who has a profound intellectual disability and additional disabilities more involved in their implementation plan. Based on a life story interview the study aims at analyzing perceptions of procedures to enhance special needs users? influence. The method used in this study was a qualitative research approach as an overall approach in order to use a narrative method where life history is the method. The focus has been to study a part of an individual life history - a specific domain in the life of the interviewee?s working career.

År 1996 presenterade IMF och Världsbanken det så kallade HIPC-initiativet. Initiativet har inneburit omfattande skuldavskrivningar för HIPC-länderna. Uppsatsens syfte är att undersöka om HIPC-initiativet är ett effektivt verktyg för att gynna ekonomisk tillväxt. Med hjälp av teorier så som "debt overhang" och "crowding-out" samt empiriska studier från diverse ekonomiska forskare så visar uppsatsen på ett samband mellan höga skulder och låg ekonomisk tillväxt. Vid vilken skuldnivå detta inträffar och vilka orsakerna är råder det dock delade meningar om.

Att kvinnor tar plats på den internationella politiska arenan har också påverkat utrikesjournalistiken. Fler kvinnor syns i dag på dagspressens utrikessidor än vad det gjordes för 20 år sedan. Men hur framställs de kvinnliga politikerna i medierna när de framträder på en traditionell manlig arena? Genom att undersöka hur två EU-ordföranden, Angela Merkel och Matti Vanhanen, framställdes i textform under tre månader på Dagens Nyheters och Svenska Dagbladets utrikessidor försöker denna uppsats finna svaret på den frågan.Med en kvantitativ innehållsanalys och en kritisk diskursanalys har artiklar analyserats utifrån ett genusperspektiv.

The memory of expulsions among the expelling groups has been fairly studied, and has potential to create new conflicts. This qualitative study uses in-depth interviews to describe the memory of the 6-7 September events and the Greek minority in Istanbul among a group of Turkish descent people living in Beyoglu, Istanbul. Further the study compares the memory with the written history and explains why the memories of the past are shaped according to the present. The Greek minority of Istanbul are remembered in words of friendship and neighbourliness, but these memories are rather a nostalgia of the past for present needs than an image of the past itself. The memories of the events among the studied group are dominated by the general destruction occasioned by the riots but tend to contradict the violence towards the Greek minority.

Idag ligger lönenivån för kvinnor i genomsnitt på drygt 80 procent av männens lönenivå. En del av löneskillnaderna beror på att kvinnor och män har olika arbetsrelaterade egenskaper t.ex. olika lång utbildning. Under det senaste decenniet har högre utbildning väldigt ofta anförts som ett medel mot löneskillnader. Kvinnor och män i yngre generationer har fått allt mer lika utbildning, särskilt när det gäller längden, men även inriktningen har fått dramatiska förändringar.

The main aim of the thesis is, first, to present a theoretical and methodological perspective for the study of postmodern theory in historiography; second, to discuss and evaluate earlier research on the subject; and third, to show that historians must be more self-reflexive about their explicit as well as implicit theoretical and philosphical premises. My theoretical and methodological inspiration comes mainly from three directions: first, the discourse analytic theory propagated by the political theorists Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffe; second, concepts from Lacanian psychoanalysis as propagated by the Slovenian philosopher Slavoj Zizek; and, finally, the later Ludwig Wittgensteins theory of language.Using this perspective a minor case study is made based on five dissertations in history at Lund University from 1999 to 2006 as source material. This in order to indicate a strong influence of postmodern theory in Swedish historiography. It is further argued that it is legitimate to speak of one postmodernism, not in spite, but because of the fact that postmodernism is a semantically highly paradoxical, contradictory and unstable phenomenon. The main results of the analysis can be summarized as follows: (i) earlier research on the subject is simplified and unreflected and must be abandoned, because (ii) postmodernism seen as a discursive whole, i.e.

Den teoretiska grunden har hämtats utifrån tidigare forskning om det västeuropeiska äktenskapsmönstret och olika samhällsgruppers äktenskapsstrategier. En demografisk studie av 221 giftermål har sammanställts från källmaterialet Dalregementets personhistoria I och II.Resultatet av detta har visat att Dalregementets befäls sammanlagda medelålder under tidsperioden 1650?1799 var vid första äktenskapet 31,1 för män och 25,8 för deras makor.

This report deals with life-history variation for Eurasian perch (Perca fluviatilis L.), with special emphasis on age and size at maturity in females, in perch populations that have changed in size distribution. The collection of fish samples was made with multimesh gill nets year 2011. The perch?s length, height, weight, status of gonads has been analyzed, and by observing the opercular bone the age has been determined. In two lakes close to Umeå in northern Sweden, Fisksjön and Ängersjön, the live-history traits of perch have been studied.

Teachers in handicraft, teaching in schools for the first nine years of a child education forwards a cultural heritage. The purpose of this essay is to find out what the teachers opinion is about what constitute the Swedish textile cultural heritage. How the teachers relate to it and how they use it, then teaching. The essay is based on a qualitative method and consists of interviews with teachers.

Denna studie behandlar mödravården i Kina och med bas i empiriskt material i form av skrivna källor ämnar studien visa på mönster i fördelningen av resurser i landet. Detta genom en undersökning av mödravård samt denna vårds tillgänglighet för kvinnorna i landet. Detta mönster analyseras sedan mot tre teoretiska perspektiv; konvergens/ divergens, urban bias och relative deprivation för att se vilket av dessa perspektiv som bäst förklarar tillgängligheten av mödravård. Studien visar på stora skillnader mellan regioner och individer och drar slutsatsen att trots att stora skillnader kan iakttas mellan stad och landsbygd, finns det också betydande skillnader inom regioner. The history of books and libraries in the Philippines starts after the arrival of the Spaniards in 1521. During the Spanish era, most of the libraries were established through the religious orders to support their own religious mission. The Americans came in the beginning of the 20th century and have had a decisive influence on the education system and the development of libraries in the Philippines. For the analysis, I have used the models of Michael H. Harris and Magnus Torstensson in their studies of library development.

Denna uppsats utgår från en lista av ordinarie konsuler mellan 30 f.Kr. och 138 e.Kr., och undersöker hur många av dessa som var nobiles, homines novi eller ättlingar till senatorer utan konsulära förfäder. Antalet konsuler tillhörande dessa olika grupper illustreras genom ett antal diagram som visar hur nobiles dominerade konsulsämbetet under Augustus och Tiberius men sedan tappade mark under Claudius och de senare kejsarna till förmån för den växande gruppen senatorsättlingar utan republikanska konsulära förfäder. Uppsatsen tar dessutom upp de ordinarie konsulernas cognomina och visar hur antalet cognomina hos majoriteten av de ordinarie konsulerna ökade från ett cognomen till två under den undersökta tidsperioden, men också att detta inte hade något klart samband med de icke-adliga senatorernas ökande dominans över konsulsämbetet..

The aim of this paper is to clarify the up till now somewhat shady definition of legitimacy, and to investigate what happens to this concept when it is transferred from the boundaries of the nation state to the realms of the international arena. By creating a model of legitimacy from which an institution can be evaluated, the purpose of this paper is to investigate what legitimacy is and how important it is for the actors within the international society. The next step involves evaluating what makes the UN a legitimate institution and how its foundation is affected by the blatant disregard of its authority by one of its? most influential members.The theoretical framework consists of a summary of what contemporary analysts? views of legitimacy are, which I have incorporated into my own institutional model of legitimacy. The role of institutions is central to all aspects of this study.
