The study is a case study about the green urban district, East Kvillebäcken, located in Gothenburg, Hisingen. East Kvillebäcken is the first urban district in Sweden with ambition to build sustainable according to the certification system Miljöbyggnad, which make it a pioneer project. The purpose is to investigate the upcoming and the meaning of the green urban district in East Kvillebäcken and show how public employees think the urban district can affect social, ecologic and economic aspects in the area. Dialogue interviews were done with four public employees, one estate agent and two residents. Local plans and other authority documents were used to get a deeper understanding for the case study. The conclusion was that the underlying factors for explaining the upcoming of East Kvillebäcken as a green urban district was; attractive location and Gothenburg city's idea about densifying and expanding the city center over Göta älv. Concurrently as the areas former element of criminality did it current to change the area East Kvillebäcken. The meaning of the green urban district was to develop and stimulate to public and ecofriendly transports, construct climate smart buildings and create a living and green outdoor environment. The urban district can affect social, ecological and economic dimensions in the surrounding area. According to the public employees it exist a bigger risk for segregation in the area. In an ecological perspective the project have led to soil remediation and contingently increased in biodiversity, as an effect of more green areas. The urban district can lead to bigger economically growth in the area.East Kvillebäcken the green urban district can work as an example how more sustainable urban development can be designed and work as a leading example for other urban districts in the future.
