This study investigates a Swedish educational project aimed to incorporate young people with intellectual disabilities into the labor market through internship. This qualitative interview study was conducted with six of the project student?s internship supervisors. The purpose of this study is thus to examine the motives behind the decision to take on a trainee from the program at the workplace. In addition, the study also aims to examine whether and how dif-ferent factors of the workplace affect the trainee?s opportunities for social inclusion in the workplace. Finally, the study seeks to investigate if the contact with the trainee influences the supervisor?s attitude towards people with intellectual disabilities and what might have an im-pact on that process. A theoretical framework, which includes Gordon Allport's "Contact hy-pothesis" and Max Weber's "Ideal types of social action", has been used to analyze the results. Study results show that the method of internship may lead to improved attitudes toward peo-ple with intellectual disabilities. An important part of this process proved to be that the work-place tasks were performed together with other employees and meant that the trainees had the opportunity to challenge their colleagues' perceptions of them.
