The aim of this study is to examine what preschool teachers within Reggio Emilia inspired early childhood education express as important regarding the physical indoor environment in preschools. The study is implemented with a qualitative method and is based on four interviews with preschool teachers that have been involved in a course on Reggio Emilia. The interviews were complemented with four observations on the departments where the preschool teachers work. A second aim of this study is to examine how the relationship between the teachers statements correlate with the environment they have created at their preschool. The collected material was gathered and then categorized. The result shows that preschool teacher consider how the environment is structured is a central part of learning. It also shows that their statements agreed well, with the environment that they have created at their preschool department. The result also shows some important starting points, in the work with the preschool environment. The teachers emphasized that the environment should be changeable, clear, a complement to the home and inspiring and attractive in order to give children the best possible conditions for learning and development. This is also pointed out as important in research and literature within Reggio Emilia. This means that the preschool teachers have a high awareness, considering the environment's importance and that they implement this in their work.
