Twig ceiling. Emotionell design i sjukhusmiljö - ur ett barnperspektiv


To be examined in hospitals can sometimes be perceived aspainful by children. Therefore there is a need for something,which can distract children?s attention from their perceivedpain. During my graduation project, I discovered a designopportunity to work with suspended ceiling systems inexamination rooms, as there is not much to look at whilebeing examined.The result, Twig Ceiling is an interactive nature-inspiredbacklit module with colored LEDs. Twig Ceiling has onelayer of pattern that is visible when the module is not litand the second layer of pattern appears when turning onthe light. Children can also choose color and brightness bya hand control and thereby creating the feeling they wantin the examination room. One can use Twig Ceiling as animaginative tool to dream away and to create stories togetherwith someone, or alone. Children can use it to get a feeling ofcontrol during the examination and over the space and thatdistracts children from their perceived pain
