ABSTRACTIntroduction: Scientists have over the last centuries realized that presurgical reduction of bacterial skin flora decreases the surgical site infections. Sponges, showers and washing with Chlorhexidine is today a standard procedure. Purpose: The purpose of the study was to describe the patient?s experience of the information given to them about the preoperative showers with hibiscrub. Method: Semi-structured interviews were used to collect the data, and content analysis was used to analys the data. This pilot study has been performed to analyze the method before a fullscale stydy. Result: The patients were well understood with the procedure and the importance of it. The information they received was easy to understand and was given both in oral and written. All three informants were satisfied with the idea of , ?to be prepared before the operation?. All informants experieinced that they had received clear instructions in how to perform the preoperative showers. The feeling of preparedness is also linked to the feeling of being confirmed and seen as a person. Discussion: To have a more eventful material, there has to be more interviews, which is planned for the full scale study. These three patients has been given what they feel is very good information.
