Svenskt Sigills kvalitetssäkring av spannmål
Today there is a limited demand for quality certified cereal in Sweden. The demand can in the future increase and become a requirement for the entire market. Since the first of January 2005, grain producers in Sweden are food producers and traceability is important for the food industry. It is possible for grain producers to certify the productions under the certification IP SIGILL. The purpose of this essay is to explore why some grain producers continue to be certified while other producers end the IP SIGILL certification.
The study was conducted by performing qualitative interviews of grain farmers who produce grain by IP SIGILL, grain producers who previously produced cereal by IP SIGILL and staff members at Svenskt Sigill.
The conclusions of the study are summarized it three positive and three negative aspects that may have affected grain producers attitude to stay certified by IP SIGILL.
Positive aspects:
? Grain producers can show that they stand for development, that they impose higher demands on the production than uncertified producers and that they want to pursue the development of grain production in Sweden by certify the production by IP SIGILL.
? Grain productions that are certified by IP SIGILL become updated due to the law regulations in Sweden which can lead to a lower risk of violating these laws.
? All of the interviewed grain producers have a positive attitude towards IP SIGILL and they believe that the certification have had a positive impact on the productions.
Negative aspects:
? The additional payment that the certified grain producers received have, over time, been reduced and are in some cases gone which reduced the revenue for the producers to certify by IP SIGILL.
? The producers haven't achieved what they expected by the IP SIGILL certification which may have reduced the motivation to be certified.
? The communication between Svenskt Sigill and the certified grain producers have not conveyed the benefits that the production can achieve by certify the productions by the certification IP SIGILL.
In the end of this essay proposals are discussed which could hopefully affect the grain producers to produce certified grain in accordance with IP SIGILL.
